| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |

What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hampton Township
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hampton Township, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hampton Township.
How does a metal roof handle Hampton Township's snow and ice buildup?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice effectively because the smooth, hard surface prevents adhesion that causes ice dams on asphalt. With about 96 cm of snow annually and roughly 82 freeze-thaw days per year in your area, the lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed, and the panels won't sag under repeated wet-snow loading. Snow guards are available if you want to manage slide-off. The aluminum alloy won't degrade from the salt and moisture of repeated freeze cycles—it self-heals its oxide layer.
Why does freeze-thaw cycling in Minnesota matter for roofing material choice?
Freeze-thaw cycles—about 82 per year in Hampton Township—crack asphalt, split wood shakes, and degrade traditional tile through water infiltration and expansion. Aluminum doesn't absorb water and contains no iron, so it cannot rust or rot regardless of how many times water freezes in tiny crevices. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) is specifically formulated to withstand this stress. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, applied to both sides and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, provides an extra barrier against the salt-laden moisture common in Minnesota winters.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust or corrode in Minnesota's wet climate?
No—aluminum roofing cannot rust because the metal contains no iron. It forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects it naturally; if scratched, the layer reforms automatically. This matters enormously in Minnesota, where you receive about 831 mm of rain annually and 96 cm of snow, creating constant moisture. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloys meet ASTM B209 standards and are topped with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides—extra insurance against corrosion. The company has installed these panels from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station since 1998, proving durability in the harshest moisture environments.
Does a metal roof stay secure during Minnesota's wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Hampton Township experiences typical daily-max winds around 20 km/h with gusts reaching 97 km/h—well within the roof's rated capacity. The mechanical interlock between panels distributes wind load across the entire surface rather than relying on fasteners alone. The system is ICC-ES evaluated (ESR-1790) for wind resistance under IBC/IRC building codes, and the Guardian warranty covers wind-related failures. Your home can weather severe storms with confidence.
How does Interlock metal roofing perform in hail, and could it lower my insurance?
Interlock holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty explicitly covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This rated impact resistance often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification and ESR-1790 evaluation report to explore savings. While Hampton Township averages mild hail exposure, the Class 4 rating means your roof is protected against the worst-case scenario. Many insurers recognize this durability and reward it with lower premiums—a financial benefit that compounds over the roof's 50-year+ lifespan.
Will I need to reinforce my roof structure to support metal roofing?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—and the Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft is lighter still. Most existing roof structures in Hampton Township, built to handle traditional asphalt or wood, easily support aluminum metal roofing without modification. This light weight also means Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs, saving you the cost and landfill impact of tear-off. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms code compliance for retrofit installation, and your installer can confirm compatibility during a site assessment.
Can a metal roof help lower my cooling and heating costs?
Interlock's energy-efficient colors reduce cooling costs by reflecting solar heat rather than absorbing it, lowering the demand on your air conditioning during warm weather. The Aged Copper Penny and other cool-roof colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. While Hampton Township receives about 3138 sunshine hours annually—moderate compared to southern climates—every hour of reflected heat reduces peak cooling demand. energy-efficiency certification means measurable energy savings and qualifies you for potential utility rebates in Minnesota. Over a 50-year roof lifespan, this efficiency compounds into substantial utility bill reductions.
How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood?
Interlock metal roofing is virtually maintenance-free. Unlike asphalt shingles—which need regular inspection and replacement of curled or missing pieces—or wood shakes that split and rot, aluminum won't degrade from Minnesota's 82 annual freeze-thaw cycles or its 831 mm of rain. The non-porous surface sheds debris naturally; no algae or moss grows on aluminum. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish (warranted 30 years) resists weathering, and the CALGreen-verified design means reduced maintenance. A simple annual inspection and gutter cleaning is all that's recommended. This low-touch durability translates to peace of mind and savings over the roof's 50-year lifespan.
Is metal roofing a truly sustainable choice compared to asphalt shingles?
Yes. Interlock aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, breaking the cycle of asphalt tear-off-and-landfill that saddles the environment with millions of tons of shingles annually. Aluminum can be recycled infinitely without degradation; recycled aluminum also requires 95% less energy to produce than virgin material. Because Interlock roofing lasts 50+ years and transfers with your home's sale, it removes the need for multiple replacement cycles. In Hampton Township's wet climate with 831 mm rainfall and 96 cm snow, durable aluminum means fewer roofing cycles over your ownership. Choosing a one-time, lifetime-warranted roof instead of replacing asphalt every 20–25 years is the most environmentally responsible decision a homeowner can make.
What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing, and how long will it actually last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. When you sell your home, it transfers to the next owner for 50 years from completion—a unique advantage that signals quality to buyers and protects your investment. Interlock has manufactured its aluminum panels since 1998 from a Delta, BC facility, and installations span from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations, proving real-world durability across harsh environments. In Hampton Township's moderate climate with about 3138 sunshine hours yearly, your roof will outlast typical asphalt by decades. The 30-year coating warranty on the Alunar 70% PVDF finish adds another layer of protection.
