Review: August 20, 2024 Completion: August 13, 2024

From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in New Trier

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in New Trier, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in New Trier.

How does metal roofing handle New Trier's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum panels shed snow naturally because they're smooth and slippery—ice and snow don't build up the way they do on asphalt. New Trier gets about 96 cm of snow annually and roughly 82 freeze-thaw days per year, which means your roof faces constant stress from expanding and contracting. Aluminum's strength and the four-way interlocking design mean panels stay locked tight through those cycles without splitting or cracking like wood or asphalt shingles do. The lightweight construction also means snow load isn't a structural problem—no reinforcement needed.

Why doesn't freeze-thaw damage aluminum roofing the way it damages asphalt and wood?

Freeze-thaw damage happens when moisture gets trapped inside a material, freezes, expands, and cracks it from the inside. Aluminum is non-porous—water doesn't soak into it. With 82 annual freeze-thaw days in New Trier and 831 mm of rain per year, asphalt eventually saturates and splits; wood rots and curls. Aluminum simply doesn't absorb water, so expansion cycles can't happen. The four-way interlocking seams also shed water outward immediately, keeping moisture away from the substrate entirely.

Can aluminum roofing rust or corrode, and is that a real concern for Minnesota homes?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rusting is an iron-only problem. What happens instead is that aluminum naturally forms a thin oxide layer when exposed to air and moisture, and this layer actually heals itself when scratched. Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycles and 831 mm of annual rainfall create ideal conditions for corrosion, which is why steel roofs fail in climates like this. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy is the roofing-grade material built for durability, and the Alunar® 70% PVDF coating on both sides adds 30 years of extra protection against any surface degradation.

Will metal roofing panels stay secure in New Trier's wind gusts?

Yes—Interlock panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph, and New Trier's typical gusts reach about 97 km/h (60 mph). The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors on all four sides, so wind pressure can't separate them or lift edges. Unlike asphalt shingles that can tear and curl in moderate wind, these panels move as one unified system. With gusts regularly approaching the higher end of New Trier's range, that interlocking design is what keeps you covered.

Do metal roofs qualify for hail damage insurance discounts?

Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers hailstone impacts up to 1.5 inches. New Trier sits in hail territory, and homeowners sometimes qualify for insurance discounts on metal roofs because of their proven hail resistance. Asphalt shingles dent easily and lose their protective granules after hail; aluminum is non-combustible and actually rebounds under impact without permanent deformation. Contact your insurance agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and see what premium reduction you might get—it often pays back part of your material cost over time.

Does a metal roof really cut cooling costs, or is that marketing?

In New Trier's climate—3138 annual sunshine hours and mean temperatures around 8.2°C—cooling isn't the primary concern, but reflective metal roofing still saves you energy money on air-conditioning days. energy-efficient Interlock colors have solar reflectance up to 0.55 and emissivity of 0.84, meaning they bounce back heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your home. Over a long roof life, those summer cooling savings add up. The real win in Minnesota is winter: a reflective metal roof won't prematurely melt snow, so you keep the insulation that snow provides, and you avoid ice-dam problems that cost money to fix.

Do I need to reinforce my roof framing for a metal roof?

No—that's the practical advantage of aluminum. Interlock's Cedar Shingle profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile profile (which mimics heavy tile) weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than real clay or concrete tile. Most homes can handle metal roofing without any structural work. This matters in New Trier because it means you can install directly over an existing asphalt roof most of the time, which saves thousands in tear-off costs and landfill fees. Your framing was already handling its own weight; this just replaces the roof without asking more of the structure.

What maintenance does a metal roof actually need in Minnesota winters?

Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance—no annual inspections, no repairs, no replacement of damaged shingles or rotted wood. Asphalt shingles need regular checks and repairs as they curl and granulate; wood shingles rot and split in Minnesota's 82 annual freeze-thaw days; tile cracks and requires professional replacement. Interlock panels are sealed by the interlocking system itself, they don't deteriorate, and the Alunar® coating is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. About the only task is clearing gutters of debris—the same as any roof. That 831 mm of annual rain just slides off.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost when asphalt is cheaper to install?

Yes, if you're thinking long-term. Asphalt roofs last 15–25 years in Minnesota's freeze-thaw climate and require at least one full replacement during your ownership, plus tear-off costs and landfill fees. An Interlock metal roof carries a lifetime limited non-prorated warranty for you as the original owner, and it's transferable—the next owner gets 50 years of coverage from completion. That means one installation, one warranty, one roof. After 25 years when asphalt fails again, your metal roof is still performing. Over a 40–50 year span, you're looking at asphalt's higher total cost of ownership, no question.

Can a metal roof be installed over my existing asphalt shingles, and how long does it take?

Yes, and that's standard practice. Because Interlock panels weigh so little—the Shingle profile at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—you can install directly over your existing roof in most cases, which eliminates tear-off labor and debris disposal. A typical residential installation takes a few days, depending on roof pitch and complexity. You'll need a solid deck underneath and proper ventilation, which your installer verifies. The process is cleaner than a tear-off, faster than reroofing with asphalt shingles, and it means no disruption to your home's interior while work is happening. Interlock has served the region since 2001 and handles all the details.
