| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |

What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hastings
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hastings, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hastings.
How does a metal roof handle Hastings' annual snowfall and ice dams?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface and thermal properties prevent the freeze-thaw bond that creates dams. Hastings receives about 96 cm of snow annually across roughly 82 freeze-thaw days, which puts real stress on traditional roofing—but Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels stay locked tight regardless of thermal cycling, and the metal's low friction helps snow slide cleanly. Optional snow guards let you control runoff safely if needed. The warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph, ensuring panels stay secure even during the gusts that accompany winter storms in the region.
Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof over time?
No—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it expands and contracts uniformly without degrading. Unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle, or wood, which splits and rots, roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy simply flexes with temperature swings. Hastings experiences about 82 freeze-thaw days yearly, meaning your roof transitions between freezing and thawing roughly weekly in winter. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched and contains no iron, so it cannot rust even in this cyclical stress. The Guardian warranty covers cracking and splitting for the original owner's lifetime—peace of mind through decades of Minnesota winters.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust in Minnesota's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes in steel. Instead, aluminum forms an oxide layer that protects it and self-heals when scratched, a property that makes it ideal for climates like Hastings, which receives about 831 mm of rain yearly plus 96 cm of snow. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, applied to both sides of every panel and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, adds a second defensive layer. This dual-protection system is why Interlock panels have been installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctica since 1998—wet Minnesota springs hold no threat.
Can my existing roof structure support a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?
In most Hastings homes, no structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's aluminum is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at just 0.59 lb per square foot, about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means the roof system weighs far less than what many older homes' framing was originally engineered to carry. Because the aluminum is so light and can install directly over your existing asphalt or wood roof, you avoid the cost and mess of tear-off and disposal. An Interlock installer will verify your specific structure, but most homes in the region find that the lightweight aluminum is one of its greatest practical advantages.
How well does a metal roof stand up to Minnesota wind gusts?
Hastings experiences typical gusts around 97 km/h, well within the warranty coverage of Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels, which resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The interlocking design—where each panel's edges grip its neighbors at four points—distributes wind pressure across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. This is why the warranty even covers impact and ensures the panels stay locked tight. The system has been tested and rated to code under ICC-ES ESR-1790 (reissued 2025), giving you confidence that severe spring and fall storms won't compromise your roof's integrity.
Does a metal roof stand up to hail, and could it lower my insurance?
Yes—Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This elite rating may qualify you for homeowner's insurance discounts, since underwriters recognize that metal roofs dramatically reduce hail damage claims compared to asphalt or wood. Hastings' climate includes occasional severe weather, and a Class 4-rated roof eliminates the vulnerability that costs homeowners thousands in deductibles and replacement cycles. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 rating and warranty details—many carriers reward this durability with premium reductions that offset roofing costs over the roof's life.
Is a metal roof really worth the higher upfront cost?
An Interlock metal roof costs more upfront than asphalt but becomes the last roof you buy, making it dramatically cheaper over the building's life. Asphalt typically lasts 15–25 years and requires full tear-off, disposal, and reinstallation—a costly cycle you repeat two or three times in 50 years. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty (non-prorated for the original owner, 50 years transferable to the next owner) covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. Over Hastings' 831 mm annual rainfall and 82 freeze-thaw days, that durability eliminates emergency repairs. The Guardian warranty's one-time transfer also boosts resale value, turning your roof into an asset rather than a liability.
Is there a local installer for metal roofing in Hastings?
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing has served the Hastings and Dakota County region since 2001, bringing over two decades of experience installing these roofs through Minnesota winters. Because the installer is local, you get faster response times for any warranty service, transparent communication about your roof's needs, and real familiarity with regional climate challenges—the 96 cm of annual snow, the gusts to 97 km/h, and the freeze-thaw cycling that demands a roof engineered to last. Choosing a local installer who knows both the product and your area's weather patterns ensures your roof is installed to specification, maximizing the ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance and warranty coverage.
Can a metal roof actually reduce my cooling costs?
Yes, if you choose energy-efficient colors. Interlock offers finishes with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55, which means the roof reflects heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering cooling demand on hot days. Hastings receives about 3,138 sunshine hours annually—plenty of solar gain—so a reflective metal roof reduces the air-conditioning load, cutting energy use and your utility bill. The Cool Roof Rating Council verifies this performance. Over a 50-year roof life, the energy savings add up substantially, especially in a growing region where climate control costs are rising. Pair this with the roof's longevity, and you're lowering both your carbon footprint and your budget.
Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Substantially. Interlock's aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at the end of its life, creating a circular economy instead of the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle. Every time an asphalt roof reaches 15–25 years, thousands of pounds of petroleum-based shingles go to the dump; over 50 years, homeowners typically discard material three times. Aluminum, by contrast, is infinitely recyclable without degradation and retains value as scrap. Hastings' climate—with 831 mm annual rainfall, 96 cm snow, and 82 freeze-thaw days—demands a roof that won't fail prematurely and trigger multiple replacement cycles. Interlock's lifetime warranty ensures you install once and eliminate waste, aligning your home with sustainable building practices the CALGreen program recognizes.
