From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Martin Lake

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Martin Lake, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Martin Lake.

How does a metal roof handle Minnesota's heavy snow and ice buildup?

Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because the aluminum surface is smooth and slick—ice simply doesn't bond to it the way it does to shingles. With Martin Lake averaging about 92 cm of snow annually and roughly 83 freeze-thaw cycles per year, that smooth surface is a major advantage: as temperatures fluctuate around freezing, snow releases naturally instead of refreezing into dams. Optional snow guards are available if you want to control where snow slides. The lightweight aluminum—about 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Slate profile—means no structural strain even when snow sits on the roof longer than it would on asphalt.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Martin Lake damage an aluminum metal roof?

No—aluminum is actually ideal for freeze-thaw climates. Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it develops a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched or exposed. With Martin Lake seeing about 83 freeze-thaw days per year and annual precipitation near 778 mm, traditional roofing materials like wood shake and asphalt degrade rapidly under this stress. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but it doesn't crack, split, or rot the way those materials do. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating—applied to both sides of each panel and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading—adds another layer of protection during these seasonal transitions.

Can an Interlock metal roof withstand Minnesota wind gusts?

Yes—Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, and that four-way interlocking design means each panel is mechanically locked on all four edges. Martin Lake's typical gusts reach about 100 km/h, which is well within the roof's rated capacity. The interlocking system distributes wind load across the entire roof plane rather than concentrating stress on fasteners, so the panels move as one unified system. This is especially important in a region where spring and fall storms bring sudden wind events—the roof won't lift, separate, or lose panels under those conditions. Installation over a solid deck and underlayment further reinforces the system against uplift.

Will my homeowner's insurance cover hail damage on a metal roof, and could premiums drop?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the roof withstood impact testing that simulates severe hailstones, so your insurance company recognizes it as a lower-risk investment. Many homeowners in hail-prone regions report lower premiums after switching to rated metal roofing, though individual quotes depend on your carrier and claim history. The aluminum won't dent or crack under hail the way asphalt or wood does, so you're unlikely to file a claim at all. If you do experience a rare perforation, the warranty covers it—that's peace of mind most traditional roofs cannot offer.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Metal roofing costs more initially but over the roof's life it's the last roof you buy. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years and requires tear-off and landfill disposal each cycle; Interlock carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, with a one-time transferable 50-year term for the next owner. In Martin Lake's climate—about 778 mm rain, 92 cm snow, and 83 freeze-thaw cycles annually—asphalt degrades faster than in milder regions. You'll avoid multiple costly replacements, labor, and disposal fees over 40–50 years. Energy-efficient colors are energy-efficient with solar reflectance up to 0.55, reducing summer cooling costs. The real comparison isn't year one; it's the total cost over three decades.

Does an Interlock metal roof actually reduce cooling costs?

Yes—energy-efficient colors reflect heat rather than absorb it, with thermal emissivity measured at 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 for Aged Copper Penny and similar finishes. Dark asphalt shingles absorb that same sun and transfer heat into your attic; the reflective metal roof keeps that energy outside. Martin Lake receives about 3,113 sunshine hours per year, so summer cooling savings add up—the Cool Roof Rating Council rates these colors specifically for heat reflection. The savings are modest compared to hotter climates, but in a region with warm summers and cold winters, you get year-round benefit: reflective finishes reduce AC load in summer, and the roof's structural soundness means no heat loss through gaps or settled shingles in winter.

Why can't aluminum rust like steel roofing, and does it matter in Minnesota?

Aluminum is chemically unable to rust because rust is iron oxide—and aluminum contains zero iron. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, invisible oxide layer that protects the metal underneath; if that layer is scratched, it self-heals when exposed to air. This matters enormously in Minnesota's humid, snowy climate: steel roofing requires constant maintenance to prevent rust, especially where snow melt brings salt and moisture. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy per ASTM B209, and the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating—applied to both sides—adds a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading. You'll never see rust stains on your gutters or siding, and the roof's structural integrity won't be compromised by corrosion over 40–50 years, even with Martin Lake's approximately 778 mm annual precipitation.

What maintenance does an Interlock metal roof require?

Minimal—just annual gutter cleaning and occasional inspection for debris. Unlike asphalt shingles, which crack, curl, and require regular replacement of damaged sections, Interlock aluminum doesn't split, rot, or lose granules. You won't pressure-wash a metal roof (that can damage the coating), and you won't need to treat moss or algae. In Martin Lake's climate, with about 92 cm snow and 83 freeze-thaw days per year, traditional wood shakes require constant maintenance to prevent rot and checking; CALGreen-verified testing confirms Interlock's reduced maintenance profile. The Alunar coating keeps the finish looking new for 30 years with zero re-coating required. Gutters fill faster than under asphalt because the smooth surface sheds debris cleanly—a minor advantage that saves you cleanup time twice a year.

Can an Interlock metal roof be installed over my existing asphalt shingles?

Yes—and that's a major installation advantage. Because the aluminum panels are extraordinarily light (the Slate profile installs at about 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs roughly 96% less than real tile), no structural reinforcement is needed. The roof installs over your existing shingles on a solid deck with underlayment, which also provides sound dampening—a metal roof installed this way is as quiet as asphalt in the rain. Avoiding a full tear-off saves time, labor, and landfill disposal fees. Most installations in Martin Lake's service area take 1–3 days depending on complexity and roof size. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790, reissued 2025, confirms compliance with IBC and IRC codes for direct installation over existing roofing. Your local Interlock installer, serving the region since 2001, will assess your existing roof and advise whether tear-off is necessary—usually it's not.

Does a metal roof add value when selling a home?

Yes—metal roofing adds tangible value and curb appeal because buyers recognize the combination of durability and minimal maintenance. A 30–50 year roof lifespan (versus 15–20 for asphalt) is a major selling point; the transferable 50-year warranty term on the Guardian Warranty is a feature unique to Interlock that the next owner inherits. Buyers in Martin Lake, where annual precipitation averages 778 mm and freeze-thaw cycles occur about 83 times per year, understand that a quality roof is essential. The aesthetic profiles—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile—allow you to choose a look that enhances your home's character. Metal roofing doesn't require disclosure of past damage or repairs the way asphalt does; there's no 'roof age' conversation at closing. The honest value comes from eliminating buyer uncertainty about how many years the roof will last.
