| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
They could have improved on the clean up. Winter can be tough, but they could do a more thorough clean up. Peter said that after the roof project, I would have a chance to write a thank you letter, and we would receive a $500 bonus. I have not received that yet.
I am, very much so, and I have been doing that. That's a 4-plus! They have been phenomenal! I would hire them personally to do any work on my buildings anytime! I'm very, very pleased! We're in a very exclusive neighborhood and I get compliments from neighbors continually about their work. I tell them when I can to contact Interlock because their work is tremendous and I couldn't be happier with the product, service, or work - especially with the crew who installed the roof.
Hopefully, Interlock decides to honor what their employees told us e.g. this roof is not what we bought! Anything short of that will require additional legal action on our part which we are fully willing to proceed with.
I think care and consideration should be looked at and explained to the customer when the Interlock system is installed when the weather is below freezing. This may affect how brittle the siding becomes in such conditions and any kind of work pertaining to the juncture of the siding and the roof is subject to damage.
Awesome company! The roof is better than the first roof they replaced!
I was very much interested in the steel roof, but when it's doubled in price and has the ice issue, it's a no-brainer.
It can be hard to get a hold of people when you call in. I don't think I have called and not had to leave a voicemail. Calls went unreturned for over 24hrs.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Centerville
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Centerville, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Centerville.
How does a metal roof handle Centerville's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Interlock metal roofing sheds snow more effectively than asphalt because its smooth, interlocking aluminum surface resists ice dam formation—critical in Anoka County where you average about 94 cm of snow annually and experience roughly 81 freeze-thaw days per year. The four-way panel interlock prevents water penetration even when snow melts and refreezes. Unlike asphalt shingles that deteriorate under repeated freeze-thaw stress, aluminum is inert; its oxide layer won't crack or split as temperatures swing between seasons. Snow guards are available if you prefer to retain snow for insulation value.
Why won't my metal roof rust like steel roofs sometimes do?
Interlock panels are manufactured from 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 roofing-grade aluminum alloy, which contains no iron—the element that causes rust. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopically thin oxide layer that protects the metal underneath; if that layer is scratched, it self-heals naturally when exposed to air. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel, adding 30 years of warranted protection against corrosion. This dual-layer defense is especially valuable in Minnesota's climate, where moisture cycles from about 843 mm of annual rainfall plus snowmelt are constant.
Will freeze-thaw weather in Minnesota damage my metal roof over time?
No. Freeze-thaw cycles—Centerville experiences about 81 per year—cause problems for materials that absorb moisture and expand when frozen, like wood, asphalt, and concrete tile. Aluminum neither absorbs water nor expands when frozen, so repeated temperature swings from cold Minnesota winters to warmer spring days don't degrade it. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating protects the aluminum substrate and is itself tested to ASTM standards for durability across temperature extremes. Homeowners report their roofs remain intact and watertight decade after decade, even in climates with more severe freeze-thaw stress.
Can my metal roof withstand Minnesota wind gusts in storms?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—well above the peak gusts Centerville typically experiences (about 95 km/h in severe weather). The mechanical interlock between panels, combined with proper fastening to spec, distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on individual fasteners. The system's lightweight design—about 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile—also reduces the force exerted by wind on roof structure, minimizing stress and flutter. Installation following ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 ensures wind resistance is maintained.
Do I need to reinforce my home's structure to install a metal roof?
Almost never. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than traditional concrete or clay tile. This means you can often install Interlock directly over your existing asphalt roof or wood shingles without adding structural support, saving thousands in framing upgrades. Even the heavier Shake profile, at about 0.58 lb/sq ft, is negligible compared to the load-bearing capacity of most residential structures. A qualified installer can assess your home in moments and confirm whether your current framing is adequate—typically it is.
Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?
Metal roofs with reflective coatings can lower cooling demand, especially on sunny days. Interlock's energy-efficient colors are rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning they reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs. Centerville receives about 3110 sunshine hours per year, so this reflectance advantage accumulates over months. The energy savings depend on your roof color, HVAC efficiency, and local utility rates, but homeowners with reflective metal roofs typically see measurable reductions in summer cooling costs compared to asphalt—especially if you're replacing a dark, aged shingle roof.
How does hail resistance affect my homeowner's insurance?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Some insurance carriers offer discounts for Class 4 impact-rated roofs because hail claims are less likely. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification to inquire about premium reductions; the documentation is straightforward and widely recognized. In Minnesota's climate, where severe hail is a recurring risk, this combination of durability and warranty protection can translate to tangible savings on your policy, sometimes offsetting a portion of the roof's initial cost over the policy period.
Is a metal roof a good investment compared to replacing asphalt shingles every 20 years?
The answer depends on how long you plan to stay in your home. Asphalt typically lasts 15–25 years and ends up in landfills; you'll likely replace it at least once in 50 years. Interlock comes with the Guardian Warranty—a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, transferable for 50 years to the next owner. This covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, and curling. Over a 50-year horizon, one metal roof often costs less in total labor and material than two or three asphalt replacements, plus you eliminate disposal fees and the environmental cost of asphalt waste.
What maintenance does a metal roof actually need?
Far less than asphalt, wood, or tile. Interlock metal roofing requires no annual treatments, sealing, or shingle replacement. Gutters and downspouts should be kept clear, and branches should be trimmed back—standard care for any roof. That's essentially it. Unlike asphalt, the roof won't blister, curl, or lose granules over Centerville's 843 mm of annual rainfall. Unlike wood shakes, it won't rot or split during freeze-thaw cycles. Unlike tile, no broken pieces need replacement. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty against chalking and fading (measured to ASTM D4214/D2244) means your roof's appearance and protection remain stable for decades with only basic maintenance.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Centerville and the surrounding area?
Interlock Metal Roofing has been serving the Minnesota region, including Anoka County, since 2001. The company manufactures its roofing-grade aluminum panels in Delta, BC, under ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (updated 2025 for IBC/IRC compliance), ensuring every installation meets current building codes. A local installer with over 20 years of regional experience understands Centerville's snow loads, wind patterns, and freeze-thaw cycles—and can advise on profile selection (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, or Standing Seam), installation over existing roofs, and warranty registration.
