| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hilltop
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hilltop, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hilltop.
How does a metal roof handle Hilltop's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface creates no grip for accumulation. Hilltop receives about 95 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 79 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack asphalt shingles and cause ice dams. The light weight (Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means your structure bears a fraction of the load that slate or tile would, while the interlocked seams prevent water penetration during freeze cycles. Optional snow guards can be installed to control slide-off timing without weakening the roof.
Why does aluminum resist freeze-thaw damage better than other roofing materials?
Aluminum's crystalline structure allows it to expand and contract through freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or degrading. Hilltop experiences approximately 79 freeze-thaw days annually, with temperatures cycling around the 0°C threshold—exactly the condition that splits asphalt, wood shakes, and concrete tile. The 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 roofing-grade) and Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (warranted 30 years) maintain flexibility and adhesion even after decades of these temperature swings. The metal's self-healing oxide layer also resists surface damage from thermal stress.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust?
No—aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust chemically. Instead, it develops a thin, transparent oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal and self-heals when scratched. In Hilltop's climate (about 796 mm rain annually and typical gusts to 94 km/h), traditional steel roofing would oxidize and degrade, but aluminum resists corrosion year-round. The Alunar coating applied to both sides of every panel adds a 30-year durability warranty against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured), keeping the surface pristine even in wet, freeze-thaw cycles.
Will a metal roof stay attached in Hilltop's wind storms?
Interlock metal roofs are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Hilltop's typical gusts reach about 94 km/h, meaning your roof has a substantial safety margin. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together mechanically—each panel engages its neighbors on all four sides—so wind pressure cannot lift or separate them. This design, combined with proper fastening to the solid deck beneath, creates a continuous, rigidly braced system that far outperforms shingles, which can be peeled away by sustained gusts well below 94 km/h.
How does a metal roof perform in hail, and can it reduce my insurance costs?
Interlock holds the highest impact rating available—UL 2218 Class 4—and the Guardian Warranty actually covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Because aluminum dissipates impact energy across its interlocked surface without cracking, denting, or losing protection, many insurers offer rate reductions for metal roofs. In Hilltop's climate zone (about 3,128 sunshine hours annually, suggesting frequent clear skies and occasional severe weather), the Class 4 rating means you're covered for the most extreme hail events without worrying about replacement cost or repair delays. Contact your agent about available discounts—metal roofs have earned a reputation for durability that asphalt cannot match.
Do I need to reinforce my house structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is required. The Interlock Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Shake 0.58, and the Mediterranean Tile 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most homes built to Anoka County's building code can support asphalt shingles plus an aluminum metal roof with zero additional framing. This weight advantage also means Interlock installs directly over your existing roof in many cases, eliminating the cost and environmental impact of a tear-off. In Hilltop's snowy climate, the light weight also means less structural stress during the approximately 95 cm of annual snow accumulation.
What maintenance does an Interlock metal roof actually need?
Interlock requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. Asphalt shingles need moss removal, gutter cleaning, and regular inspection for curling and loss of granules. Wood shakes require treatment and frequent repairs. Aluminum panels shed debris naturally, resist algae growth (especially energy-efficiency colors with 0.84 emissivity), and never rot, split, or curl. In Hilltop's climate with about 796 mm annual rainfall and 79 freeze-thaw cycles, traditional materials degrade steadily and demand repairs; Interlock's solid surface resists weather damage. Occasional gutter and downspout cleaning keeps water flowing—that's it. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty reflects how durable the surface truly is.
Will an aluminum metal roof lower my cooling costs?
Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) reflect solar heat that asphalt absorbs and converts to attic warmth. Hilltop's average of about 3,128 sunshine hours per year creates measurable cooling load, especially in summer; the Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms Interlock's ability to reduce that burden. Over a roof's 50+ year lifespan, the cumulative cooling savings can offset a portion of the material cost. The reflective finish also stays cooler in winter sunlight, reducing thermal cycling stress on fasteners and seams during the approximately 79 annual freeze-thaw cycles.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
An Interlock metal roof costs more upfront than asphalt but becomes the last roof you'll install. Asphalt lasts 15–20 years, requiring tear-off and replacement—a cycle that adds $5,000–$8,000 in landfill and removal costs per replacement. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, transferable once for 50 years total protection. In Hilltop's harsh climate (79 freeze-thaw days, 95 cm snow, gusts to 94 km/h), asphalt accelerates toward failure; aluminum's resistance to these stressors means one installation serves you and the next owner. When you amortize labor, disposal, and material costs over 50+ years, the total cost-per-year is typically lower than serial asphalt replacements.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Hilltop?
Interlock Metal Roofing, the manufacturer and local installer, has served Anoka County and the broader region since 2001. We understand Hilltop's specific climate challenges—approximately 796 mm rain, 95 cm snow, gusts to 94 km/h, and 79 freeze-thaw days per year—and design installations to handle them. Our team is factory-trained on all five Interlock profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile) and can assess whether your existing roof can support a direct install or requires tear-off. As the manufacturer, we back every installation with the ICC-ES ESR-1790 code compliance and the Guardian Warranty. Call for a local evaluation and timeline.
