Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Anoka, Minnesota
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
They could have improved on communication.
I an looking forward to getting it done once we figure out the financing.
Pick up the extra material sooner.
They could have improved on the clean up. Winter can be tough, but they could do a more thorough clean up. Peter said that after the roof project, I would have a chance to write a thank you letter, and we would receive a $500 bonus. I have not received that yet.
I am, very much so, and I have been doing that. That's a 4-plus! They have been phenomenal! I would hire them personally to do any work on my buildings anytime! I'm very, very pleased! We're in a very exclusive neighborhood and I get compliments from neighbors continually about their work. I tell them when I can to contact Interlock because their work is tremendous and I couldn't be happier with the product, service, or work - especially with the crew who installed the roof.
Hopefully, Interlock decides to honor what their employees told us e.g. this roof is not what we bought! Anything short of that will require additional legal action on our part which we are fully willing to proceed with.
I think care and consideration should be looked at and explained to the customer when the Interlock system is installed when the weather is below freezing. This may affect how brittle the siding becomes in such conditions and any kind of work pertaining to the juncture of the siding and the roof is subject to damage.
Awesome company! The roof is better than the first roof they replaced!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Anoka
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Anoka, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Anoka.
How does a metal roof handle Anoka's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Anoka averages about 95 cm of snow yearly and roughly 79 freeze-thaw days, which can trap moisture under asphalt shingles and cause ice dams—but aluminum's smooth, non-porous surface sheds snow and water before it penetrates. The four-way interlocking panels bond so tightly they prevent the water infiltration that leads to rot and structural damage. Unlike materials that absorb moisture and crack when frozen, aluminum's oxide layer remains intact through repeated thawing and refreezing, keeping your roof sealed season after season.
Why won't an aluminum roof rust in Minnesota winters?
Aluminum roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 alloy contains no iron, which is what causes rust—so rusting is physically impossible, regardless of road salt, humidity, or freeze cycles. When the aluminum surface is scratched, a self-healing oxide layer instantly forms to protect it. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, applied to both sides of every panel and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, adds a second shield. Anoka's 796 mm of annual rainfall and temperature swings won't degrade the metal itself, only asphalt or steel alternatives.
Can a metal roof stay secure in Anoka's spring and fall wind gusts?
Anoka experiences typical daily-max winds around 19 km/h with gusts reaching 94 km/h, well within the 120 mph (193 km/h) wind warranty that Interlock metal roofing is engineered to resist when installed to spec. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors on all four edges, distributing wind pressure across the entire system rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. The same interlocking geometry that handles severe gusts also means no traditional roofing nails to loosen or tear through shingles—the panels grip each other.
What happens if hail hits my metal roof in Minnesota?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest hail classification available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum construction, verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790, resists deformation that would compromise your roof's seal or appearance. Many homeowners have seen insurance premium reductions for Class 4-rated roofing, and your agent can confirm eligibility. Because the roof's structural integrity isn't compromised by impact, repair costs (if any) are typically far lower than replacing asphalt shingles or tiles after a severe hail event.
Will Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycles damage my metal roof over time?
Anoka experiences about 79 freeze-thaw days yearly, but aluminum doesn't absorb water or expand when frozen the way asphalt, wood, or clay absorb moisture and crack. The Alunar coating bonds permanently to the aluminum substrate and doesn't split, curl, or lose its integrity from thermal cycling. The four-way interlocking panels also accommodate micro-movement without creating gaps where water can pool and re-freeze. With a non-prorated lifetime limited warranty for the original owner and a 50-year transferable term for the next owner, your roof is designed to handle Anoka's climate for generations—not just a decade or two.
Does a metal roof stay cooler than asphalt in Minnesota summer sun?
Anoka receives about 3128 sunshine hours per year, and energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat that asphalt absorbs and radiates into your home. Cool Roof Rating Council verified colors offer thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), reducing cooling demand on hot summer days. Lower summer AC load means lower utility bills and less strain on your air-conditioning system. Over a 50-year roof life, the energy savings from a reflective metal roof can total thousands of dollars—money that goes back into your pocket instead of your utility company's, while also reducing your home's carbon footprint.
Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is necessary. Interlock metal roofing's Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft, Cedar Shingle 0.41–0.58 lb/sq ft, and Mediterranean Tile approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most homes built to modern code can support metal roofing over their existing structure. Because aluminum is so light, installation can often proceed directly over your current asphalt shingles, eliminating the cost and debris of a tear-off and saving you months of disruption. A local installer will confirm your roof's load capacity, but the weight advantage means cost savings and zero need for expensive structural upgrades.
How long does it take to install a metal roof on my Anoka home?
Installation timelines depend on roof size and complexity, but Interlock Metal Roofing, serving this region since 2001, can discuss your specific project during an on-site assessment. The lightweight construction and four-way interlocking design mean faster installation than heavy materials like slate or tile. In many cases, the roof can be installed directly over your existing asphalt shingles—eliminating tear-off labor—which compresses the overall timeline and reduces job-site disruption. Weather in Anoka, with roughly 3128 sunshine hours per year, typically allows extended installation windows. Your local installer will provide a firm schedule once measurements and logistics are confirmed.
What maintenance does a metal roof actually need in Minnesota?
Interlock aluminum roofing requires virtually no maintenance. Unlike asphalt shingles that deteriorate over 15–20 years, wood shake that splits and rots, or clay tile that cracks in freeze cycles, aluminum won't degrade from Anoka's 796 mm of annual rain, 95 cm of snow, or thermal stress. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, doesn't require re-coating or treatment. No moss removal, no missing-shingle replacements, no leak patches—just occasional gutter cleaning and a rinse if dust accumulates. The Guardian warranty covers the roof's structural integrity for your lifetime, so your main task is peace of mind, not repairs.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Asphalt typically costs less upfront but requires replacement every 15–25 years, generating multiple tear-off fees, landfill costs, and installation disruptions across your ownership. Interlock metal roofing costs more initially but lasts a lifetime with a non-prorated warranty for the original owner and 50 years transferable to the next owner—truly the last roof you'll buy. Over 50 years, the lifecycle cost per year is substantially lower than asphalt. Add energy savings from reflective coatings, elimination of maintenance expenses, and likely insurance discounts for Class 4 hail ratings, and the value case strengthens. Many homeowners recoup the difference through reduced utility bills and avoided replacement cycles before they sell.
