Review: August 20, 2024 Completion: August 13, 2024

From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Nowthen

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Nowthen, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Nowthen.

How does a metal roof handle Minnesota's heavy snow and ice buildup?

Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice efficiently because aluminum's smooth surface resists adhesion far better than asphalt, which traps moisture and freeze-thaw cycles. Nowthen receives about 94 cm of snow annually across roughly 84 freeze-thaw days—exactly the conditions where asphalt shingles suffer the worst damage. Optional snow guards can be installed if you want to manage snow release on sloped sections. The lightweight design (Slate at just 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed, even after heavy accumulation, and the panels won't warp or curl from repeated freeze-thaw stress the way traditional materials do.

Will a metal roof rust in Minnesota winters?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal beneath. This is fundamentally different from steel roofing, which requires constant vigilance against rust in freeze-thaw climates. Nowthen's 764 mm of annual rain and 94 cm of snow create relentless moisture exposure, but aluminum's roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) remains stable. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish—applied to both sides and warranted 30 years against corrosion—adds a second defensive layer. Your roof simply won't develop the rust stains or structural decay that plague iron-based metals in this climate.

Can Interlock metal roofing handle Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or curling?

Yes; aluminum's crystalline structure and the Alunar PVDF coating expansion properties are engineered to withstand freeze-thaw stress without splitting, cracking, or curling—all damage modes explicitly covered by the Guardian lifetime limited warranty. Nowthen experiences about 84 freeze-thaw cycles yearly, a severe test that destroys wood shakes, degrades asphalt, and cracks concrete tile. Aluminum's low thermal mass means it warms and cools quickly without the internal stress that causes failure in heavier materials. The four-way interlocking system allows tiny thermal movements without panel separation. This is why Interlock roofing, installed since 2001, has proven itself in identical Minnesota climates for over two decades.

Are metal roofs safe in Nowthen's wind and hail storms?

Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph and the hail impact rating (UL 2218 Class 4—the highest available) covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Nowthen's typical wind gusts reach about 98 km/h, well within the design envelope, and Anoka County's spring weather can produce severe storms. The interlocking system distributes wind loads across multiple panels so a single gust cannot lift or separate them. Many homeowners in this region see their insurance premiums drop after installation due to the Class 4 hail rating and non-combustible aluminum. You're not choosing between looks and safety—you have both.

Can my existing roof structure support a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?

No structural reinforcement is needed in nearly all cases. Interlock's Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft and the Tile profile—which replicates heavy clay or concrete—is about 96% lighter than the real thing, so your home's framing sees a fraction of the load of traditional tile. This extreme lightness is one reason Interlock can install directly over most existing roofs, saving you thousands in tear-off labor and landfill fees. A structural engineer may occasionally recommend reinforcement on very old or compromised framing, but that's rare. For Nowthen homeowners tired of replacing asphalt every 15–20 years, the ability to install over an existing roof means faster completion and lower upfront cost, with no surprise structural work.

Do reflective metal roof coatings really lower cooling costs?

energy-efficient Interlock colors have thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they bounce heat away rather than absorb it the way dark asphalt does. In Nowthen's roughly 3,127 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance prevents your attic and upper floors from becoming radiant heat sinks during summer. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating quantifies the cooling benefit. While Minnesota's winters are long (mean temperature 7.6°C), homes with metal roofs still report lower overall energy costs because the reflective coating reduces peak summer loads and the lightweight design allows better airflow under the roof deck. Over a 50-year lifespan, that's measurable savings.

What's the lifetime warranty, and does it transfer if I sell?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no dollar cap. When you sell, it transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, a huge selling point in Nowthen's competitive market. This one-time transfer reflects confidence in the product's durability; most homeowners install Interlock as their last roof. Backed by ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 and installed in climates ranging from salt-air coasts to Antarctica, the warranty isn't marketing—it's a promise backed by 25+ years of field performance. You're essentially buying permanent protection against the freeze-thaw, wind, and hail challenges Minnesota throws at roofs.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Interlock requires virtually no maintenance beyond occasional gutter cleaning. Unlike asphalt shingles (which lose granules in heavy rain and snow runoff), wood shakes (which split and rot in freeze-thaw cycles), or clay tile (which cracks in hail), aluminum panels don't degrade from weather exposure. Nowthen's 764 mm annual rainfall and 94 cm snow won't cause deterioration, algae won't grow on the Alunar fluorocarbon finish, and the CALGreen-verified design eliminates the need for periodic re-coating or sealing. No moss, no rot, no replacement. The 30-year coating warranty against chalking and fading reflects the finish's durability. Most owners report their biggest maintenance task is keeping gutters clear—the same task any roof requires.

Is aluminum roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes, significantly. Aluminum is about 95% recyclable, and Interlock roofing ends the destructive tear-off-to-landfill cycle that asphalt shingles create every 15–20 years. Over 50 years, a typical home tears off asphalt three times, sending tons of waste to landfills; Interlock installs once and stays. Manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC using sustainable practices, Interlock panels require no chemical re-coating, no re-roofing labor, and no disposal. When your roof eventually reaches true end-of-life in a century or more, the aluminum can be recycled into new products indefinitely. For Nowthen homeowners who care about reducing their environmental footprint, choosing a permanent, recyclable roof is one of the highest-impact home decisions you can make.

How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?

Installation typically takes 3–7 days depending on roof complexity and weather. Interlock installs over most existing roofs without tear-off, which saves weeks of labor and eliminates the disposal cost and debris mess—a huge advantage in Nowthen's variable spring and fall conditions. The lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means the existing structure usually requires no reinforcement, so your installer can proceed immediately. If the existing roof is severely damaged, tear-off may be recommended, but that's the exception. The local Interlock team, serving the region since 2001, handles permitting and works with your insurance if you're replacing due to hail or storm damage. You can be under a permanent roof in less time than asphalt shingles take to install.
