Review: August 20, 2024 Completion: August 13, 2024

From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Review: April 27, 2016 Completion: June 20, 2015

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Johnsville

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Johnsville, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Johnsville.

How does a metal roof handle Minnesota snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofs shed snow faster than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, hard surface prevents ice from bonding—critical in Johnsville, where you average about 94 cm of snow annually and experience roughly 81 freeze-thaw cycles per year. Four-way interlocking panels keep water sealed at the seams, eliminating the ice-dam pathways that develop under traditional shingles. Snow guards are available if you need to manage load or runoff direction. The lightweight design (Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means your home never bears the weight burden of accumulated snow the way it would under heavy tile or slate.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Minnesota damage an aluminum metal roof?

No. Aluminum expands and contracts minimally compared to asphalt or wood, and its oxide layer self-heals when scratched—it cannot rust even after repeated thaw-and-refreeze cycles. Your region logs about 81 freeze-thaw days yearly, a condition that splits wood shakes and causes asphalt to curl and crack. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) and four-way interlocking system absorb seasonal movement without fatigue. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty explicitly covers cracking and curling—conditions freeze-thaw weather creates.

Can an aluminum metal roof withstand Minnesota wind gusts?

Yes. Interlock metal roofing is warranted to 120 mph wind resistance when installed to specification, and Johnsville's typical gusts reach about 95 km/h (59 mph)—well within that margin. The four-way interlocking panel design locks each sheet to its neighbors, creating a unified system that doesn't rely on fasteners alone. UL testing validates this durability. Over 25 years in the field from coastal salt-air zones to Antarctic research stations, the system has proven itself in genuinely extreme wind environments. Your regional wind profile poses no structural challenge.

Can aluminum metal roofing rust in Minnesota's climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and deteriorates. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects the core material indefinitely. Even if scratched, this layer repairs itself. Johnsville receives about 843 mm of annual rainfall plus snow melt, creating wet conditions that would severely corrode steel roofing within years. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides) adds an extra 30-year-warranted barrier against environmental attack. This dual-protection system—material + coating—means your roof remains corrosion-proof for life.

What's the warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and how long will it actually last?

The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also one-time transferable: the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion. No asphalt or wood roof offers this durability. Interlock has manufactured continuously since 1998; installations range from coastal homes to an Antarctic research station, proving performance across extreme climates. Combined with the 30-year coating warranty and aluminum's inherent corrosion resistance, your roof is engineered to outlast the home itself.

Does Minnesota hail damage metal roofing, and can it affect insurance?

No. Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This rating means it resists damage from the most severe hail events. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts on impact-resistant roofing. Your aluminum panels' hardness, combined with the interlocking seam design, provides superior impact protection compared to asphalt, wood, or traditional tile. Document your roof's rating when you apply for homeowners insurance; some carriers will lower your rate in recognition of reduced hail-damage claims.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's aluminum profiles are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile is roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, and even the Shake profile weighs only about 0.58 lb/sq ft. This featherweight design allows installation directly over most existing asphalt roofs without adding load to your framing. Traditional tile or slate would demand costly structural upgrades; aluminum eliminates that expense entirely. In Johnsville, where winter snow loads are significant (average 94 cm annually), a lightweight roof is advantageous—it doesn't add seasonal burden and reduces the total weight your foundation must support.

Will a metal roof keep my home cooler and reduce energy costs?

energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it, lowering cooling demand—especially valuable during Johnsville's roughly 3110 sunshine hours per year. Aged Copper Penny and other qualifying colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they bounce heat away while minimizing re-radiation into the atmosphere. Cool Roof Rating Council testing validates this performance. In summer, reflective metal roofing can reduce attic temperatures by 20–30 degrees compared to dark asphalt, directly cutting air-conditioning runtime and utility costs. This efficiency advantage compounds over decades, offsetting installation cost through energy savings.

How long does metal roof installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?

Installation timelines vary by roof size and complexity, but most residential projects complete within 3–5 working days. Yes, aluminum panels can install directly over existing asphalt shingles in most cases, eliminating costly tear-off labor and landfill disposal. Your installer will assess deck condition and recommend any preparation. The lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement or additional framing—a major advantage over slate or tile replacements. Interlock Metal Roofing has served your region since 2001 and can walk you through the full timeline and whether your specific roof qualifies for over-installation.

Is aluminum roofing recyclable and better for the environment than asphalt?

Yes. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, whereas asphalt shingles end up in landfills by the millions of tons annually. Aluminum's recyclability means your roof can be reclaimed and reused indefinitely without degradation. This breaks the tear-off-to-landfill cycle that defines asphalt replacement every 15–25 years. Over a 50-year lifespan in Johnsville—where you experience roughly 843 mm rain and 94 cm snow yearly—you'll never replace your aluminum roof. You'll never haul old shingles to the dump. One installation, one lifetime, zero waste. Your home's roofing footprint shrinks dramatically compared to homes on their third or fourth asphalt roof.
