What our customers are saying:
They could have improved on the clean up. Winter can be tough, but they could do a more thorough clean up. Peter said that after the roof project, I would have a chance to write a thank you letter, and we would receive a $500 bonus. I have not received that yet.
I am, very much so, and I have been doing that. That's a 4-plus! They have been phenomenal! I would hire them personally to do any work on my buildings anytime! I'm very, very pleased! We're in a very exclusive neighborhood and I get compliments from neighbors continually about their work. I tell them when I can to contact Interlock because their work is tremendous and I couldn't be happier with the product, service, or work - especially with the crew who installed the roof.
Hopefully, Interlock decides to honor what their employees told us e.g. this roof is not what we bought! Anything short of that will require additional legal action on our part which we are fully willing to proceed with.
They could have improved on communication.
I an looking forward to getting it done once we figure out the financing.
I think care and consideration should be looked at and explained to the customer when the Interlock system is installed when the weather is below freezing. This may affect how brittle the siding becomes in such conditions and any kind of work pertaining to the juncture of the siding and the roof is subject to damage.
Awesome company! The roof is better than the first roof they replaced!
I was very much interested in the steel roof, but when it's doubled in price and has the ice issue, it's a no-brainer.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Northdale
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Northdale, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Northdale.
How does metal roofing handle Northdale's 95 cm of annual snowfall and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofing sheds snow effectively because its smooth, hard surface doesn't allow snow to bond the way asphalt does, reducing ice dam risk during Northdale's roughly 79 freeze-thaw days per year. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind gusts up to 94 km/h—the typical gust speed here—so snow loads and wind-driven snow won't compromise the seal. The non-porous aluminum oxide layer never absorbs moisture, meaning freeze-thaw cycling cannot degrade the material itself, unlike asphalt or wood shakes that absorb water and crack when it expands.
Why won't an aluminum metal roof rust, and what does that mean for Minnesota homeowners?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that seals itself when scratched—a critical advantage in Minnesota's ~796 mm of annual rain and seasonal wet conditions. Unlike steel roofing, which requires ongoing maintenance to prevent rust stains and structural failure, Interlock aluminum panels are protected by a 30-year Alunar fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides. Even if the coating eventually weathers, the aluminum substrate remains sound indefinitely, eliminating the rust-through failures that force steel roof replacement.
Does freeze-thaw damage affect metal roofing in Minnesota winters?
No—freeze-thaw cycles do not damage aluminum roofing because the material itself is non-porous and does not absorb water, so expansion and contraction from freezing cannot crack or split it. Asphalt shingles and wood shakes absorb moisture and fail when that water freezes; Northdale's 79 annual freeze-thaw days accelerate this deterioration. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) maintains its integrity through unlimited freeze-thaw cycling, while the Alunar coating prevents water penetration in the first place, ensuring performance across Minnesota's full seasonal range.
What's the actual warranty on Interlock metal roofing, and how long will it last?
Interlock offers a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, and impact loss—plus a one-time transfer to the next owner for 50 years from completion. This structure reflects the product's real durability: Interlock has been manufactured since 1998 and installed on everything from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations, proving performance across extreme climates. The 30-year Alunar fluorocarbon finish warranty (ASTM D4214/D2244) and the hail impact warranty covering stones up to 1.5 inches make this a genuinely last-roof purchase, especially in Minnesota's ~3,128 annual sunshine hours where UV stability matters.
Does metal roofing resist hail, and can it reduce my homeowners insurance?
Yes—Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum construction often qualifies for homeowners insurance discounts; contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) for a quote. Class 4 impact resistance protects against both hail and wind-driven debris in Minnesota's gusty springs, giving you peace of mind during severe weather while potentially lowering your annual premium.
Can metal roofing withstand Minnesota wind storms and gusts?
Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—far exceeding Northdale's typical wind gusts of about 94 km/h. The four-way interlocking panel system creates a unified structure where each panel locks mechanically to its neighbors, preventing wind lift even in severe gusts. During Minnesota's unpredictable spring storms, this mechanical interlock beats nailed-down asphalt shingles, which can fail at seams. The warranty covers this engineering directly, so high-wind events won't void your coverage or force costly repairs.
Is metal roofing light enough to install over my existing roof without structural work?
Yes—Interlock Shake installs at about 0.58 lb/sq ft and the Tile profile at roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This extraordinary lightness means no structural reinforcement is needed on most homes, even over existing asphalt roofing. In Minnesota, where homes are already built to handle ~95 cm of snow loading annually, the aluminum panels add negligible weight, keeping installation simple, faster, and free of costly framing upgrades. Your existing roof structure can support the retrofit directly.
Does metal roofing save energy in Minnesota's climate?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat effectively, with measured initial reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reducing cooling demand on warm days. Minnesota's ~3,128 annual sunshine hours mean steady heat gain through a dark roof; reflective coatings lower attic temperature and reduce air-conditioning load, especially in spring and early fall. The Cool Roof Rating Council verification proves these colors deliver measurable energy savings versus standard asphalt, which absorbs rather than reflects that same solar radiation. Over the roof's lifetime, this translates to lower utility bills.
How long does metal roofing installation take, and can you install it over my existing roof?
Interlock metal roofing installs quickly—typically in 1-3 days depending on home size and complexity—and can be installed directly over existing asphalt shingles without tear-off, saving labor and disposal costs. The light weight (~0.58 lb/sq ft for Shake) and four-way interlocking design streamline installation compared to traditional tile or slate. No structural reinforcement is required, so the process stays on schedule. Local installer Interlock Metal Roofing has served this region since 2001 and can provide exact timeline and cost estimates for your specific roof.
Does metal roofing add resale value to a Northdale home?
Yes—metal roofing's durability, distinctive appearance across five profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile), and long warranty appeal to serious buyers concerned with maintenance and longevity. A metal roof signals that a home is move-in ready and won't need costly replacement within 10-15 years, a major selling point in Minnesota's competitive market. The transferable 50-year warranty (after the original lifetime term) gives the next owner documented protection, reducing buyer anxiety about hidden defects. Combined with the aesthetic variety and Class A fire rating available, metal roofing often justifies a premium at sale or accelerates offers.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Northdale’s climate?
Yes. Northdale averages about 95 cm of snow, 796 mm of rain, roughly 79 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 94 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
