An end of day wrap up communication would have been nice. We also were not really told about the quality of material they were using. If they want me to rate that they need to explain it. Also, if they could show me the roof visually some way after completion that would be nice. I am unable to physically get up there and look at it.

Review: July 30, 2006Completion: June 27, 2006

Well, the roof is on and I guess I owe you, folks, a testimonial. It looks great! We chose a black slate style shingle which accentuates our mansard roof very nicely with crisp, clean lines. We are getting lots of compliments from our neighbors. The best part is knowing that our roof will continue to look great for many, many years – long after conventional asphalt shingles would be cracking, curling, fading, streaking and collecting mold and mildew. The crew was first rate – very professional and efficient. It was fun to watch them work. Every single man seemed to know exactly what to do at all times. The process looked like a choreographed event. They were thorough and cleaned up after themselves at every step and, unlike some roofing jobs I’ve seen, they always immediately replaced what they tore out so that the house was never exposed to weather when they left the job at the end of the day. Finally, we really appreciated the “good faith” method of doing business with Interlock. We didn’t pay a dime up front or during the roofing process. Only after we had made a final inspection and approved the job were we asked for payment. In conclusion, I would highly recommend Interlock roofing to anyone replacing a roof or building a new house.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Osseo

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Osseo, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Osseo.

How does a metal roof handle Minnesota's snow load and ice dams?

Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice effectively because aluminum's smooth surface and thermal properties resist ice dam formation better than asphalt. Osseo gets about 95 cm of snow annually, and the lightweight design—Slate installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means your existing structure handles the load without reinforcement. Metal's high thermal conductivity also helps prevent the temperature differential that creates ice dams. Snow guards are available if you want to control roof-to-ground shedding on specific areas.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Osseo damage an aluminum roof?

No. Aluminum's oxide layer actually strengthens through freeze-thaw cycling and self-heals when scratched—it cannot rust or rot like wood or steel can. Osseo experiences roughly 79 freeze-thaw days per year, a genuine challenge for asphalt (which becomes brittle) and wood shakes (which split). The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against chalking, protects the aluminum substrate so thoroughly that the material simply outlasts the cycles. This is why Interlock panels have been installed from coastal salt-air climates to Antarctica.

Are metal roof panels secure in high winds around Osseo?

Yes—the four-way interlocking design is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Osseo's typical wind gusts reach 94 km/h, well below that threshold. The interlocking geometry distributes wind load across the entire panel network rather than relying on fastener strength alone, which is why the system performs in extreme events. UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating means the panels also resist hail up to 1.5 inches without perforation, so both wind and weather are covered under the same warranty structure.

Can a metal roof reduce hail insurance costs in Minnesota?

Metal roofs often qualify for insurance discounts because Interlock panels carry UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. When you file a claim, adjusters recognize that aluminum's impact resistance is third-party verified, not manufacturer marketing. Contact your insurer with the ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) and UL listing; many companies will credit you for reduced risk, especially in Minnesota's hail belt. The discount often offsets a portion of the roof's cost over time.

Why choose aluminum roofing instead of steel in a snowy climate?

Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust—period. Steel roofing rusts from the inside out once its coating fails, especially in freeze-thaw climates like Osseo's with 796 mm of annual rainfall and 79 freeze-thaw days. Aluminum's naturally forming oxide layer self-heals when scratched, meaning even minor damage doesn't start a rust cycle. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of the panel for extra protection. Over a 50-year lifespan, this fundamental material difference is the difference between a roof that lasts and one that deteriorates.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement required. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing roofs without adding strain. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles are even lighter, at 0.41 lb/sq ft. This weight advantage means you can upgrade from asphalt or deteriorated tile without costly framing work. Osseo homes rarely need structural upgrades; the metal system simply performs the job with a fraction of the load traditional materials demand. It's one reason the installation timeline stays short.

What warranty protects an Interlock metal roof in Osseo?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once—the next owner gets 50 years of coverage from completion—a feature that strengthens your home's resale value. The Alunar coating alone is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM testing. Unlike asphalt shingles that need replacement every 15–20 years, this roof is the last one you'll install, and the warranty structure reflects that permanence.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Interlock requires minimal maintenance—no seasonal patching, no wood treatment, no algae or moss removal. Osseo's 796 mm annual rainfall naturally rinses the Alunar-coated panels; sediment doesn't accumulate like it does on asphalt. You'll inspect gutters and remove debris occasionally, just as you would with any roof. Asphalt shingles require frequent repairs in freeze-thaw climates, wood shakes split and need replacement, and tile cracks under impact. Aluminum's low-maintenance profile means no costly repairs and predictable operating costs—a real advantage over 30, 40, or 50 years.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost over the life of the roof?

Yes, when you account for the full lifecycle. Asphalt needs replacement every 15–20 years; metal lasts 50+ years under the Guardian Warranty. Over five decades, the asphalt cycle costs two or three times more in materials and labor alone. Add Osseo's 79 annual freeze-thaw days, which accelerate asphalt failure, plus the elimination of repairs—failed shingles, ice dam fixes, wood rot treatment—and metal's initial premium disappears. Energy savings from energy-efficient colors further offset costs. Metal is the last roof you buy; asphalt is a cycle of replacement, disposal, and debt.

Who installs Interlock roofs in the Osseo area?

Interlock Metal Roofing has served the Hennepin County region since 2001, with the manufacturing facility in Delta, BC. Local expertise means faster scheduling, familiarity with Osseo's building code (ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance), and installation teams who understand Minnesota's freeze-thaw demands. You're not working with a national franchise; you're working with a regional installer backed by three decades of on-site experience and a parent company manufacturing the same panels for 25+ years. That consistency and local accountability is part of why the Guardian Warranty actually means something.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Osseo’s climate?

Yes. Osseo averages about 95 cm of snow, 796 mm of rain, roughly 79 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 94 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
