An end of day wrap up communication would have been nice. We also were not really told about the quality of material they were using. If they want me to rate that they need to explain it. Also, if they could show me the roof visually some way after completion that would be nice. I am unable to physically get up there and look at it.

Review: July 30, 2006Completion: June 27, 2006

Well, the roof is on and I guess I owe you, folks, a testimonial. It looks great! We chose a black slate style shingle which accentuates our mansard roof very nicely with crisp, clean lines. We are getting lots of compliments from our neighbors. The best part is knowing that our roof will continue to look great for many, many years – long after conventional asphalt shingles would be cracking, curling, fading, streaking and collecting mold and mildew. The crew was first rate – very professional and efficient. It was fun to watch them work. Every single man seemed to know exactly what to do at all times. The process looked like a choreographed event. They were thorough and cleaned up after themselves at every step and, unlike some roofing jobs I’ve seen, they always immediately replaced what they tore out so that the house was never exposed to weather when they left the job at the end of the day. Finally, we really appreciated the “good faith” method of doing business with Interlock. We didn’t pay a dime up front or during the roofing process. Only after we had made a final inspection and approved the job were we asked for payment. In conclusion, I would highly recommend Interlock roofing to anyone replacing a roof or building a new house.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Maple Grove

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Maple Grove.

How does metal roofing handle Minnesota's heavy snow load and ice dams?

Interlock aluminum panels shed snow and ice effectively because the smooth, hard surface resists ice adhesion — unlike asphalt, which traps moisture. At about 120 cm of snow annually in Maple Grove, this matters. The panels themselves weigh only 0.41 lb/sq ft (Shingle profile), so they impose minimal load on your structure even when snow accumulates. The four-way interlocking design remains watertight through freeze-thaw cycles, and the warranty covers any performance loss from ice or snow. Optional snow guards can be installed if you prefer staged melting.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Maple Grove damage aluminum metal roofing?

No — aluminum's oxide layer actually strengthens under freeze-thaw stress rather than degrading like asphalt or wood shakes. You experience roughly 79 freeze-thaw days per year in Hennepin County; roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is engineered for precisely these conditions. The panel edges remain sealed and flexible through temperature swings, so you won't see cracking, splitting, or curling. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers cracking and splitting for the original owner's lifetime.

Can aluminum metal roofing rust in Minnesota's wet climate?

Rust is chemically impossible with aluminum because the material contains no iron — only aluminum alloy per ASTM B209 specification. Steel roofing rusts; aluminum develops a thin, self-healing oxide layer that actually protects it further when scratched. Combined with the two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty against chalking and fading), your roof resists corrosion even in wet climates like Maple Grove, which receives about 800 mm of rain annually. This is why Interlock panels have been installed successfully since 1998 from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations.

How do metal roof panels stay secure in Minnesota wind and storms?

Four-way interlocking panels lock edge-to-edge and seam-to-seam, creating a unified system that resists uplift. The warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph, well above Maple Grove's typical gusts of about 94 km/h and mean daily-max winds around 19 km/h. Each panel nests into its neighbors without relying on fasteners at the exposed edges, so wind cannot lift or separate them. When installed to Interlock's structural specification by a qualified installer, the system performs as evaluated under ICC-ES ESR-1790 (current through 2025).

Does metal roofing get dented by hail, and can I get an insurance discount?

Interlock aluminum panels are rated UL 2218 Class 4 impact (the highest available) and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Denting is far less common than with asphalt, and small dents do not compromise performance or watertightness. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4-rated roofing — contact your agent with the UL 2218 certification. In Maple Grove's climate, impact resistance combined with the 79 annual freeze-thaw cycles means you're protecting your home against the region's most common roof stressors.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?

No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft — about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile — so even older Maple Grove homes can support it. The Shake profile weighs 0.58 lb/sq ft and Shingle just 0.41 lb/sq ft. This extreme lightness means the system installs directly over most existing roofs without adding load during Minnesota's 120 cm average annual snowfall. The lightweight design also simplifies installation and reduces labor costs compared to slate, cedar shake, or traditional tile alternatives.

What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing, and how long does it actually last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner — covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also one-time transferable: the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion. This structure reflects the product's durability across 25+ years of real-world installation. Combined with the Alunar coating's 30-year warranty against fading and chalking, you're protected through decades of Maple Grove's moisture, freeze-thaw cycling, and UV exposure — making it a genuine last-roof-you-buy investment.

How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?

Installation timeline depends on roof size and complexity, typically 2–5 days for a residential project. Yes, the panels install over most existing roofs without tear-off because of their lightweight profile (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft). This saves disposal costs and labor. Interlock Metal Roofing has been serving the region since 2001 and manages the structural assessment, flashing design, and building-code compliance (ICC-ES ESR-1790). A qualified local installer will ensure your Maple Grove home's specific roof slope, existing material, and load capacity are evaluated before proceeding.

Will a metal roof help reduce cooling costs in Minnesota's climate?

energy-efficient Interlock colors feature up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance (Aged Copper Penny) and 0.84 thermal emissivity, reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs. Maple Grove receives about 3,128 sunshine hours annually, so even in a northern climate, reflective coloring reduces attic heat buildup and air-conditioning load during warmer months. The cool roof benefit is verified by the Cool Roof Rating Council. Winter heating performance is neutral (all roofs lose heat the same way), but summer cooling savings and the warranty's durability across freeze-thaw cycles make metal roofing a year-round efficiency play.

Is aluminum metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes — Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, whereas asphalt shingles end up in landfills by the millions of tons annually. A typical asphalt roof tear-off generates 1–2 tons of waste per 1,000 sq ft; aluminum panels avoid that cycle entirely. Manufactured in Delta, BC, since 1998, they also eliminate the need for repeat replacements every 15–20 years. Over a 50-year ownership horizon in Maple Grove's 800 mm rainfall and 120 cm snow climate, choosing aluminum means one roof instead of three asphalt roofs — and full recyclability at the end. CALGreen verification also documents reduced maintenance burden.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Maple Grove’s climate?

Yes. Maple Grove averages about 95 cm of snow, 796 mm of rain, roughly 79 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 94 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
