Review: October 10, 2023 Completion: September 6, 2023

My two prior asphalt shingle roofs curled, cracked, grew moss, had black streaks, and generally looked terrible in 10-15 years each. I was so done with asphalt roofs, that this time around I researched for months to find a better alternative.I knew that metal was the way to go but I didn't want it to look like a barn roof. I considered stone coated steel shingles, but they have a rough surface for moss to grow, and after the expense looks like an ordinary cheap asphalt roof. When I discovered Interlock Lifetime Roofing Systems, I knew I had found the perfect solution. I chose the "black slate" style which looks just like a real slate roof!!! I now have the most beautiful roof in the neighborhood, and it's warrantied for 50 years. The installers worked very hard and efficiently to finish my roof in just 3-1/2 days. The sales and customer service reps were very responsive to my many questions and concerns. I am a very satisfied customer and I have no regrets at all. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Attic venting, Roof installation

Review: June 4, 2015 Completion: June 29, 2015

We just had a flash-hail storm the other day. It tested our roof, and it did very, very well. The hail was almost golf ball sized, and it lasted for about five minutes. We didn’t hear the rain, but boy did we hear that hail. It sounded like machine guns going off against the walls and roof. I haven’t seen hail like that since I left Texas. There were no dents in the roof, and there were no blemishes. It held up beautifully.

Review: June 17, 2021 Completion: March 12, 2020

Somersworth NH install. Great group of workers. They had the foreman check all work after. They are easy to contact, the price was ok, it's not asphalt, and you get what you pay for. Don't expect a price like an asphalt roof. I liked heavy gauge aluminum over those coated steel roofs. They can rust over time. Aluminum does not rust. I had it for over 1 year, with no issues, no leaks, snow falls good, and no more ice dam on my low slope roof. I even climbed up there to seal a few hairline cracks in my chimney mortar. Nice and durable. It's worth it in the long run. The only thing I would recommend is please attach the siding near eaves security. Because as they insert flashing, they may need to pull out a few areas and nail them back. Just pay attention. There was one little loose area that was nailed in on my siding but needed to be locked in from the bottom. Overall great company, I do; the roof was secure, no loose shingles or flops. I highly recommend this company. I think the two areas near the eave of siding were done ok; they just needed the final touch. And it wasn't even roof related. And the small siding area lasted a year till I had a heavy windstorm. I replaced that small area, and since ok. Just to be clear, my siding is older; it locks in differently. Don't get the impression that they leave things floppy. Just have them check and pull on and areas they removed siding at the end. Service: Roof installation

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Farmington

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Farmington, New Hampshire. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Farmington.

How does a metal roof handle Farmington's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Metal roofs shed snow better than asphalt because aluminum expands and contracts differently than shingles, and the smooth panel surface prevents ice dams from trapping meltwater. Farmington gets about 152 cm of snow annually and roughly 90 freeze-thaw days per year—exactly the conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles. The four-way interlocking panels stay watertight through those thaw-refreeze swings because aluminum doesn't absorb moisture and won't split like wood or slate. Snow guards are available if you want to manage the slide.

Why doesn't aluminum rust, and does that matter in New Hampshire?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that seals itself when scratched. In Farmington's wet climate—nearly 1000 mm of rain annually—this is a real advantage over steel roofing, which oxidizes and requires paint maintenance. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel, adding 30 years of color and UV protection. Steel corrodes from the inside out; aluminum stays chemically stable for decades even under constant moisture exposure.

Will a metal roof survive New Hampshire's freeze-thaw winters?

Yes. Aluminum's thermal expansion is predictable and doesn't cause the failure modes that plague asphalt, wood, and slate in freeze-thaw climates. With about 90 freeze-thaw days per year in Farmington, material brittleness and micro-cracking become critical—asphalt curls, wood splits, slate cracks. Roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is engineered for exactly this stress. The four-way interlocking system accommodates panel movement without opening seams, and the Guardian warranty explicitly covers cracking and splitting—damage you'd see regularly on traditional roofs here.

Can a metal roof handle Farmington's wind and occasional gusts?

The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Farmington's typical gusts reach about 108 km/h (67 mph), and the ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) confirms the system meets all IBC/IRC wind-load requirements for New Hampshire. The interlocks work like puzzle pieces—each panel is mechanically locked to its neighbors on four sides, so wind pressure can't lift or separate them. Your roof will outperform asphalt shingles, which can tear free at lower wind speeds.

Will I need to reinforce my house frame for a metal roof?

No. The Interlock Tile profile, for example, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no structural upgrades are needed. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles are even lighter (around 0.41 lb/sq ft). This light weight also means installation over your existing asphalt roof is often possible, saving thousands on tear-off labor and landfill fees. Traditional slate or tile would require expensive reinforcement; aluminum gives you that aesthetic without touching your framing.

Does a metal roof reduce hail damage risk and insurance costs?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This level of durability often qualifies for insurance discounts or improved rates compared to asphalt shingles. New Hampshire's hail season can be destructive, and a Class 4 rating demonstrates non-negotiable impact resistance. Many insurers recognize this and adjust premiums favorably. Check with your agent, but the hard data behind the rating speaks louder than any promise.

Can a metal roof actually reduce cooling costs?

energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they bounce heat away rather than absorb it like asphalt. Farmington receives about 3074 sunshine hours per year, so a reflective roof has real work to do during summer cooling season. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms the advantage. While Farmington winters are cold, the reflectivity helps year-round by reducing attic heat gain in spring and fall—and a cooler attic lowers air-conditioning load when you do run it.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?

Metal roofs require almost no active maintenance—no algae treatment, no moss scraping, no granule replacement. Asphalt shingles degrade constantly in Farmington's 152 cm annual snowfall and 90 freeze-thaw days, requiring routine inspection and patching. CALGreen verification confirms Interlock's reduced-maintenance profile. Metal roofs shed water immediately, don't trap moisture, and won't develop the soft spots and leaks asphalt roofs get after 15-20 years. You'll spend your time and money on other parts of your house, not your roof.

Is a metal roof really worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?

Over the roof's full life, metal costs less. Asphalt typically lasts 15-20 years in harsh climates; Interlock comes with a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—and if you sell, the next owner gets 50 years from completion. That's one roof instead of three or four tear-offs, hauling, and reinstalls. Farmington's 152 cm snow and 90 freeze-thaw days accelerate asphalt failure. The current promotion—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation—lowers the entry point. Do the math: asphalt replaced twice plus labor beats one metal roof every time.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Farmington?

Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999 and knows the local climate demands—the heavy snow, freeze-thaw cycles, and moisture exposure that require precision installation. They understand ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance, proper interlocking technique, and how to handle underlayment in New Hampshire's conditions. Because installation quality directly affects wind warranty performance (120 mph rated) and water-tightness, using a local, experienced installer matters. Call them for an in-home estimate and financing options under the current promotion.
