Review: October 10, 2023 Completion: September 6, 2023

My two prior asphalt shingle roofs curled, cracked, grew moss, had black streaks, and generally looked terrible in 10-15 years each. I was so done with asphalt roofs, that this time around I researched for months to find a better alternative.I knew that metal was the way to go but I didn't want it to look like a barn roof. I considered stone coated steel shingles, but they have a rough surface for moss to grow, and after the expense looks like an ordinary cheap asphalt roof. When I discovered Interlock Lifetime Roofing Systems, I knew I had found the perfect solution. I chose the "black slate" style which looks just like a real slate roof!!! I now have the most beautiful roof in the neighborhood, and it's warrantied for 50 years. The installers worked very hard and efficiently to finish my roof in just 3-1/2 days. The sales and customer service reps were very responsive to my many questions and concerns. I am a very satisfied customer and I have no regrets at all. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Attic venting, Roof installation

Review: June 4, 2015 Completion: June 29, 2015

We just had a flash-hail storm the other day. It tested our roof, and it did very, very well. The hail was almost golf ball sized, and it lasted for about five minutes. We didn’t hear the rain, but boy did we hear that hail. It sounded like machine guns going off against the walls and roof. I haven’t seen hail like that since I left Texas. There were no dents in the roof, and there were no blemishes. It held up beautifully.

Review: June 17, 2021 Completion: March 12, 2020

Somersworth NH install. Great group of workers. They had the foreman check all work after. They are easy to contact, the price was ok, it's not asphalt, and you get what you pay for. Don't expect a price like an asphalt roof. I liked heavy gauge aluminum over those coated steel roofs. They can rust over time. Aluminum does not rust. I had it for over 1 year, with no issues, no leaks, snow falls good, and no more ice dam on my low slope roof. I even climbed up there to seal a few hairline cracks in my chimney mortar. Nice and durable. It's worth it in the long run. The only thing I would recommend is please attach the siding near eaves security. Because as they insert flashing, they may need to pull out a few areas and nail them back. Just pay attention. There was one little loose area that was nailed in on my siding but needed to be locked in from the bottom. Overall great company, I do; the roof was secure, no loose shingles or flops. I highly recommend this company. I think the two areas near the eave of siding were done ok; they just needed the final touch. And it wasn't even roof related. And the small siding area lasted a year till I had a heavy windstorm. I replaced that small area, and since ok. Just to be clear, my siding is older; it locks in differently. Don't get the impression that they leave things floppy. Just have them check and pull on and areas they removed siding at the end. Service: Roof installation

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Milton

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Milton, New Hampshire. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Milton.

How does a metal roof handle Milton's 150+ cm of annual snow?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, interlocking surface prevents the buildup that triggers ice dams. Milton averages about 152 cm of snow yearly with roughly 90 freeze-thaw cycles, which means your roof experiences constant expansion and contraction—exactly where asphalt splits and curls. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels move as one unit without seams that crack, and the lightweight design (Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural overload. Snow guards can be added if you want to control shedding, but the geometry itself works with your climate, not against it.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage aluminum roofing in New Hampshire winters?

No—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates because it has no moisture absorption and doesn't expand or contract the way wood or asphalt does. Milton's ~90 annual freeze-thaw days would devastate a traditional roof, but roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy simply cycles without stress. The coating—a 30-year-warranted Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon applied to both sides—stays flexible through temperature swings and won't crack or peel. This dual-sided finish is especially valuable in your climate because it protects against both above-roof UV and moisture approaching from underneath during those 978 mm of rainfall years.

Can aluminum roofing rust in New Hampshire's wet climate?

Aluminum panels cannot rust because the metal contains no iron—it's impossible. Instead, aluminum develops an invisible oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, protecting the core indefinitely. This matters in Milton because your region experiences roughly 17 km/h daily winds with gusts to 108 km/h; branches, dust, and debris constantly scratch roofing. Traditional steel or even some cheaper metal roofs oxidize and corrode under this mechanical stress. Interlock's Guardian Warranty explicitly covers rusting for the life of the original owner and transfers 50 years to the next—a promise backed by over 25 years of real installations, including Antarctic research stations and coastal salt-air homes where aluminum's corrosion resistance is non-negotiable.

Is a metal roof safe in Milton's wind gusts up to 108 km/h?

Yes—Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, well above Milton's recorded gust speeds. The four-way interlocking design means each panel locks to its neighbors on all sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof system rather than relying on fasteners alone. This engineering matters because your region experiences about 17 km/h average daily winds with occasional gusts near 108 km/h; fastener-dependent systems experience cumulative stress that loosens fasteners over years. Independent testing validates this—your roof won't flutter, rattle, or lift during nor'easters, and you'll have warranty confidence backing the installation.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed because Interlock panels are extraordinarily light. The Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—compare that to slate, which weighs 15–20 times more, or concrete tile at roughly 8–10 lb/sq ft. The Mediterranean Tile profile, despite looking like authentic tile, weighs only ~0.59 lb/sq ft and is about 96% lighter than the real thing. Milton's 152 cm annual snowfall means load matters: a metal roof distributes that weight so gently that it installs directly over existing shingles without tearing off or reinforcing rafters. This saves thousands in structural work and means faster installation—often completing within a week.

Is metal roofing really the last roof I'll buy?

It is if you plan to stay in your home beyond 30–40 years or sell to a buyer who values durability. Asphalt shingles cost less upfront but require replacement every 15–25 years, generating multiple tear-off and disposal cycles over a century. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, with a one-time transfer of 50 years to the next owner—essentially, you install once and stop budgeting for roof replacement. Material costs are higher, but when you divide by lifespan and factor in zero maintenance (no algae treatment, no replacement shingles, no ice-dam repairs), the per-year cost favors aluminum. Milton's harsh freeze-thaw climate accelerates asphalt failure, making the math even more compelling here.

Does Interlock metal roofing protect against hail damage?

Yes—Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the warranty explicitly covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the roof withstands 2-inch steel ball impacts at 20 feet per second without cracking or leaking. While Milton's climate records don't show major hail frequency, your region's 90 annual freeze-thaw cycles and dramatic temperature swings create hail-like stress on roofing materials. Many homeowners find that this impact resistance qualifies for insurance discounts (contact your agent with the UL 2218 certification), and the peace of mind is genuine—you're not just protected against freak hail, but against the abrasion and thermal shock that weakens asphalt roofs year-round.

How much upkeep does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Virtually none. Asphalt roofs need algae treatment, shingle replacement, and ice-dam management; wood shakes require regular sealing and rotting board replacement; ceramic tile needs grout resealing. Interlock aluminum requires only occasional gutter cleaning and annual debris removal—the same maintenance any roof needs. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, resisting the UV damage that forces asphalt re-coating or dye-coating every 10–15 years. Milton's 3,074 annual sunshine hours and 978 mm of rainfall would typically cause significant weathering on lesser materials, but the fluorocarbon finish was designed for exactly these conditions. You'll never pressure-wash, seal, or stain your roof.

Will a metal roof keep my Milton home cooler in summer?

Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve solar reflectance up to 0.55 (measured on Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they reflect significant solar heat rather than absorbing and re-radiating it like asphalt. Milton receives about 3,074 sunshine hours per year; on a 25°C summer day, this reflectance cuts cooling costs by redirecting heat away from your attic and living spaces. The Cool Roof Rating Council has verified this performance—it's not marketing, it's tested. While your heating season is long (mean temperature 9.4°C), the reflective benefit in summer offsets some of that winter heating penalty, and the lightweight design simplifies ventilation strategies that many modern homes use to optimize energy performance.

Who installs Interlock roofs in Milton, New Hampshire?

Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served this region since 1999, making them both the manufacturer's local partner and a team with genuine familiarity with Strafford County conditions—the specific challenges of 152 cm snow, ~90 freeze-thaw days, and the occasional 108 km/h gust. They understand the permitting process in Milton, the local building inspector's expectations for ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance, and how to install over existing roofs to maximize your timeline and budget. Currently, they're offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. An experienced local installer matters because metal roofing quality depends as much on flashing detail, underlayment choice, and ventilation strategy as on panel quality—and New England's climate demands precision.
