Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for West Salem, New Hampshire
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
An excellent product and high quality installation.
Dear Interlock, I am writing to express my comments regarding the installation at the above address. First, we would like to thank Mike Baldassari for the professionalism he demonstrated during the initial meeting and follow-ups. His knowledge of the product and understanding of our concerns were related in a manner, that novices would understand. Next, the installers headed by Nikolay were knowledgeable and kept us apprised of the progress during the installation. Thirdly, I would like to thank Susan and Miranda for all their customer service support. Finally, the roof is absolutely beautiful. It looks great and gives our home a new, distinguished look. People stop and stare, to admire its’ appearance. Its’ appearance provides a stately, stunning look. This is our second and final roof at this home, which we expect to last for years, to the next Cassaro generation. I would recommend your company and product to anyone thinking about a long-lasting solution.
I had an Interlock roof put on several years ago and I am not sure I agree with the statement “more expensive, sure”. While it does cost more to put on the roof, I think the payback more than covers the extra price. I am sitting in my attic office, a place that got cold even with the heat this time of year, it is warm now. It stays cooler in the summer as well which saves on cooling costs. The sales person told me that it would be the case but I really didn’t believe it. I would buy this roof again in a heartbeat.
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value From the word Hello, my husband and I knew we had found the right company. We went direct to the Mfg, eliminating the middleman because Interlock has their own crews installing the roof. I never have to play the game of whether it's the contractor's fault or not; it's the Mfg's fault IF there is ever an issue with my roof! Their Salesmen Mark, was always in contact with me, as is their business office - Jennifer was great - even when we delayed the job because of issues with our home out of our control. Once we gave the green light, their installation team was here within days and done within three days. They addressed rot we hadn't anticipated, brought in their inspector to ensure the job was going smooth and answered questions we had. We are very shy with contractors due to a couple of misfortunes, so we were very leery about going with any contractor in general. We have renewed hope there is good in this world. I couldn't be happier with not only the product but the company. WE LOVE OUR ROOF! The best part is I'll never have to worry again, and I can transfer my home into trust with confidence my family won't have to worry again either! Thanks, Interlock! Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in West Salem
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in West Salem, New Hampshire. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in West Salem.
Does a metal roof handle West Salem's snow load and ice dams?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered for snow climates like West Salem, which averages about 117 cm of snow annually. The smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice faster than asphalt, reducing ice-dam formation along the eaves. Aluminum's zero rust guarantee means freeze-thaw cycling—West Salem experiences roughly 98 freeze-thaw days per year—won't degrade the material or create weak points where ice backs up. Many New England installers add snow guards to the Slate or Cedar Shingle profiles for aesthetics, but the panels themselves have proven reliable across coastal salt-air installations and Antarctic research stations.
How does aluminum hold up to freeze-thaw cycles?
Aluminum is immune to the cracking and deterioration that freeze-thaw cycles cause in other roofing materials. Unlike asphalt shingles, which become brittle and split, or wood shakes, which cup and rot, Interlock's 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy contains no iron and cannot rust—its oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so water infiltration and corrosion are eliminated. West Salem's approximately 98 annual freeze-thaw days stress traditional materials but leave aluminum unchanged. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating adds a 30-year fade and chalk warranty, protecting the surface through decades of temperature swings without degradation.
Why choose aluminum roofing over steel when both are metal?
Aluminum cannot rust; steel will. Interlock panels use roofing-grade aluminum (ASTM B209 3105-H24 / 3003-H24) that contains no iron—the element responsible for rust. A self-healing oxide layer protects the metal, meaning scratches and moisture exposure do not trigger corrosion. Steel roofs, by contrast, require constant vigilance and protective coatings to prevent rust in wet climates like West Salem's, which receives about 1,007 mm of rain annually. Over a 30-year lifespan, aluminum's corrosion immunity eliminates costly repairs and rust stains that degrade appearance. Coastal installers from British Columbia to salt-air regions worldwide trust aluminum for permanent protection.
Can my house support a metal roof, or do I need structural reinforcement?
No structural reinforcement needed. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most homes already support asphalt shingles (15–17 lb/sq ft); aluminum roofing weighs far less, so your existing framing and trusses carry it with ease. The lightweight design also means installation is faster and safer for crews. Because aluminum is so light, it installs directly over most existing roofs, avoiding the expense and landfill impact of a full tear-off. Engineers and code officials recognize this advantage—the ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms that no reinforcement is required.
Are interlocking metal panels strong enough for New England wind gusts?
Yes. West Salem's typical wind gusts reach about 107 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors on all four sides, creating a unified surface that resists uplift and lateral wind load far better than overlapped shingles. This engineering is proven in coastal installations and regions prone to severe wind events. The Slate, Cedar Shingle, and Shake profiles all perform identically in wind testing. For homeowners in areas prone to nor'easters or occasional high-wind events, the 120 mph warranty provides genuine peace of mind.
What's the hail rating on a metal roof, and can it lower insurance costs?
Interlock aluminum roofing carries the highest hail impact rating available: UL 2218 Class 4. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches—a rare event in West Salem but a full-coverage guarantee nonetheless. Class 4 ratings often qualify homeowners for insurance premium reductions or discounts on comprehensive home policies; contact your agent with the UL 2218 documentation to see what's available in Rockingham County. Unlike asphalt, which softens in summer and becomes vulnerable to impact, aluminum's consistent hardness resists denting and cracking across all seasons. Many New England insurers recognize the durability advantage and reward it accordingly.
How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood?
Far less. Asphalt shingles require biannual inspections, algae treatment, gutter cleaning, and seasonal repairs; wood shakes need annual inspection, staining, and rot treatment. Interlock aluminum requires inspection only—typically once yearly or after severe weather. The hard, non-porous surface resists algae, mold, and debris accumulation. You'll never seal seams, replace spongy shakes, or power-wash stains. West Salem's 117 cm annual snowfall doesn't degrade aluminum, and the 1,007 mm of rain won't cause leaks if the roof is installed to spec. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists fading for 30 years, so repainting is not necessary. Over a 50-year lifespan, the labor and material savings are substantial.
What's the real lifespan of a metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?
Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, transferable once to the next owner for 50 years from completion. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—essentially every failure mode that occurs in actual roofing. Non-prorated means if a defect appears, Interlock replaces the material at no cost regardless of age. Real-world lifespan often exceeds 50 years; installations from 1998 onward across salt-air coasts and harsh climates remain watertight and fade-resistant. For a West Salem homeowner planning to stay 25–30 years, this warranty essentially guarantees you'll never replace the roof again. The one-time transfer makes the roof an asset when you sell, boosting buyer confidence.
How long does metal roof installation take, and can it go over my existing roof?
Installation typically takes 3–7 days depending on roof size and complexity, much faster than asphalt tear-off and replacement. One major advantage: Interlock aluminum installs over most existing roofs, eliminating the expense, labor, and landfill impact of a tear-off. A crew removes only loose or damaged shingles and installs a solid deck and underlayment if needed. The lightweight design (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft) means minimal load on your home during and after installation. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999 and schedules most West Salem jobs to complete before heavy snow arrives. Local crews understand seasonal timing and New Hampshire building codes (ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance). Financing options like the current no-payments, no-interest promotion until Spring 2027 also reduce upfront burden.
Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes, substantially. Interlock aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable at end of life; asphalt shingles are not and end up in landfills by the millions of tons annually. A typical residential roof tear-off generates 5–10 tons of waste; Interlock's lightweight panels and over-roof installation option eliminate that waste entirely on many projects. Aluminum's recyclability means old panels become new products rather than burden. West Salem's approximately 1,007 mm annual rainfall and 117 cm snow accelerate asphalt degradation, creating more frequent tear-offs and landfill cycles. Interlock's 50-year lifespan—often extended beyond that—drastically reduces replacement frequency and environmental cost. The CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance needs as well, meaning fewer chemical treatments and repair waste over the roof's life.
