Review: April 24, 2026 Completion: November 9, 2017

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should. The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time. After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

Review: April 20, 2026 Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Review: January 20, 2026 Completion: August 10, 2001

Fast response and excellent work. The technician drop by within couple of days, found the cause, and provided quote. The price was reasonable for the work scope. They were able to secure the work slot as soon as the raining season was over and kept me informed on the schedule. In addition, they inspected remaining roof as well. Note: the leak was due to gutter pulling the corner flashing. The 10+ year Interlock roof tile remained good.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in East Columbia

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in East Columbia, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in East Columbia.

How does a metal roof handle East Columbia's snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Metal roofs shed snow efficiently because the smooth, slippery surface and thermal properties prevent ice dams—a major advantage in your region's ~48 cm annual snowfall and 36 freeze-thaw days per year. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are designed to the ICC-ES ESR-1790 standard and can be fitted with snow guards if you want to control snow shedding. The lightweight aluminum (Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural concerns from accumulation, and the coating won't degrade through repeated freeze cycles the way asphalt shingles do.

Will heavy rain penetrate a metal roof?

No—four-way interlocking aluminum panels create a watertight system that handles your area's typical ~1468 mm annual rainfall without leaks when installed to spec. Each panel locks at four points to its neighbor, plus the standing seams and valleys are engineered to channel water downward without pooling. Many homeowners worry metal roofs leak, but that's a misconception rooted in poor installation; properly seated panels over an adequate underlayment and solid deck are as leak-proof as any roof system, and far more durable than asphalt once water eventually penetrates it.

Can aluminum metal roofing rust?

Aluminum cannot rust—it contains no iron, which is what rusts. Instead, aluminum develops a protective oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched, so exposure to East Columbia's ~1468 mm of rain and variable humidity poses no corrosion threat. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (applied to both sides and warranted 30 years) provides additional protection, so salt spray or airborne contaminants won't degrade the material. Steel roofing, by contrast, relies entirely on its coating to prevent rust; once the coating chips, oxidation begins.

Is a metal roof safe in East Columbia's wind and storms?

Yes—Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to spec, well above the ~116 km/h gusts typical in your area. The four-way interlocking system means each panel is locked to its neighbors on all sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. The design is validated under IBC/IRC standards (ESR-1790), so local inspectors approve installations. In the 25+ years Interlock has served the PNW, this locking mechanism has proven itself in coastal storms and variable weather patterns.

Does hail damage a metal roof, and can it affect my insurance?

Interlock aluminum roofs carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers hail perforation up to 1.5 inches. Because aluminum is so much harder than asphalt and doesn't crack or dent like traditional materials, insurers often view metal roofs favorably for hail-prone regions. Some carriers offer premium discounts on homes with metal roofing, though you'll want to check with yours. For East Columbia's occasional severe weather, the combination of impact resistance and non-prorated lifetime coverage under the Guardian Warranty means you're protected whether hail damage is minor or major.

Will a metal roof help with cooling costs in summer?

energy-efficient Interlock colors with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84 reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling load in warmer months. East Columbia averages ~2957 sunshine hours annually, so even though winters dominate, reflective coatings still lower summer air-conditioning demand. Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms the thermal benefit. The payoff depends on your cooling usage, but over a 50-year roof life, the energy savings compound—especially compared to asphalt, which absorbs solar heat and accelerates breakdown.

What's the real lifespan of a metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?

Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—meaning no gradual reduction in coverage—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. That single-owner term is transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which gives prospective buyers confidence in your home's value. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) and 30-year Alunar® coating warranty (ASTM D4214/D2244 tested) mean the roof will outlast multiple asphalt cycles, easily 50+ years with proper installation and maintenance.

Can I get a metal roof that looks like slate, cedar shake, or tile?

Yes—Interlock offers five profiles for this page: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates the visual character of its namesake material using the four-way interlocking aluminum panel system. The Tile profile, for example, achieves authentic Mediterranean or clay-tile aesthetics while weighing about 96% less than real tile, eliminating the need for structural reinforcement. You can choose the look that suits your home's architecture without the weight penalty, maintenance burden, or cost of traditional materials—each profile is ICC-ES certified (ESR-1790) and installs over most existing roofs.

How long does a metal roof installation take, and can you install over my old roof?

Installation timeline depends on roof size and complexity, typically ranging from a few days to a week. Most existing roofs—asphalt, wood shake, even composite—can accept Interlock panels because the aluminum is so light (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft, Shake at 0.58); no structural reinforcement is needed. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served the region since 1997 and can assess whether your deck and framing are sound. Installing over an existing roof saves tear-off labor and landfill costs; if removal is necessary, you'll discuss that upfront. Current financing (no payments or interest until Spring 2027) makes the timeline part of a longer affordability picture.

Is metal roofing environmentally better than asphalt shingles?

Aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable and ends the 15-to-20-year cycle of asphalt tear-offs that fill landfills. Your aluminum roof will likely outlast 2–3 asphalt replacements over 50+ years, so fewer material cycles and fewer disposal trips overall. When the roof eventually reaches end-of-life, the aluminum goes to scrap recyclers, not a dump. Interlock's manufacturing in Delta, BC, and installation over existing roofs (avoiding tear-off) reduce transport and waste further. CALGreen verification confirms the maintenance reduction too—no sealant reapplication, no granule loss—so the environmental benefit extends to the resource use over the roof's operational life.

Is a metal roof a good choice for East Columbia’s climate?

Yes. East Columbia averages about 48 cm of snow, 1468 mm of rain, roughly 36 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 116 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
