Review: January 23, 2017 Completion: August 9, 2016

To whom it may concern: We had the Interlock Metal Roof in Tudor Brown Cedar Shingle installed in August of 2016. We researched several options regarding roof replacement and decided to go with your company. It was the best decision we ever made. The crew was friendly fast and efficient. They explained to us every step of the replacement. They even went so far as to touch up paint where needed during the install. When it was all said and done, we could not have been more pleased. The new Interlock roof completely changed the look of our house for the better. The new roof and a new coat of paint took a 1996 Craftsman style house and made it look like brand new construction. We have the best-looking house in the neighborhood. We just suffered what has been one of the worst winters on record for the Pacific NW. High winds, 12 inches of snow, and freezing rain. Our new Interlock roof (pardon the pun) weathered it all fabulously. Some of our neighbors with standard roofing material didn’t fare as well. I would recommend to ANYONE looking for a new roof to invest in an Interlock metal roof. We don’t regret our decision for an instant.

Prompt, ongoing communication from bid to follow up after completion. Install crew was professional and polite. We had an involved tear-off and they spread tarps overnight in case of dew. Finished job looks great.

Review: November 15, 2020 Completion: November 14, 2019

Living in the Pacific NW, we have a lot of rain and my old roof decided it was done. I checked into many types of new roofs and found this to be the best on the market. It has been on my house for 4 months and is doing a great job. When it rains, the roof is not noisy and we have noticed our heating bill has dropped. I like the fact that I don’t have to get on the roof anymore to clean the moss off it either. This is truly a lifetime roof. You will not meet a nicer group of installers either. They worked in the rain and kept me informed of what they were doing. They also cleaned up everyday so it didn’t look like a construction site. It was a pleasure doing business with Interlock. Thank you. Positive Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Value

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Homestead

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Homestead, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Homestead.

Does a metal roof handle Homestead's 193 cm of annual snow without ice dams?

Yes. Aluminum's smooth, interlocking surface sheds snow and ice far more efficiently than asphalt. Homestead receives roughly 193 cm of snow yearly and experiences about 78 freeze-thaw cycles annually—conditions that crack and curl traditional shingles. Metal roofing's continuous profile prevents the water infiltration that causes ice dams. Optional snow guards let homeowners control release timing, and the lightweight design (the Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft) handles snow load without structural concern, unlike slate or tile alternatives.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Homestead damage an aluminum metal roof?

No. Aluminum's oxide layer is inherently stable through freeze-thaw stress. With 78 freeze-thaw days per year and 193 cm of snow, Homestead's climate is exactly where aluminum outperforms materials that absorb moisture—wood shake cracks, asphalt curls, and concrete tile can spall. The 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) has been installed since 1998 in coastal and alpine climates far more severe. The Alunar® 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against fading and chalking, further protects against UV and moisture stress.

Why does an aluminum roof never rust, even in Homestead's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal beneath. Homestead receives about 386 mm of annual rainfall and occasional coastal-air influence, conditions that corrode steel roofing. Interlock applies Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish to both sides of every panel—extra insurance in damp climates. Even if scratched, the oxide reforms automatically. This is why Interlock metal roofs have been installed from salt-air coastal homes to an Antarctic research station. Steel roofing requires constant vigilance; aluminum simply lasts.

What hail protection does a metal roof offer, and can it lower my insurance?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and is warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this resilience and offer discounts on homes with Class 4-rated roofs. Homestead's typical wind gusts reach 90 km/h, and while severe hail is not a regular occurrence, the panel's four-way interlocking design distributes impact load across multiple fastening points. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 specification; they often pass savings directly to the policyholder.

Can a metal roof withstand Homestead's wind and gusts without lifting?

Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Homestead experiences typical daily-max winds around 11 km/h with gusts to 90 km/h—well within that envelope. The interlocking design means each panel is mechanically tied to its neighbors and to the deck, preventing uplift even in severe gusts. The lightweight construction (the Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) reduces wind load on fasteners and framing, a physics advantage heavier materials cannot match.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over an asphalt shingle roof?

Measured over the roof's full life, yes. Asphalt shingles last 15–25 years in Homestead's 78 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 193 cm snow—you'll replace them 2–4 times. Metal roofing carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated Guardian Warranty for the original owner and remains transferable for 50 years from completion. One aluminum roof outlasts 3+ asphalt roofs. Current regional promotion includes no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation. Total cost of ownership (material + labor + replacements) strongly favors a single lifetime roof over multiple tear-off cycles.

Do the cool-roof colors save money on heating and cooling?

Energy savings vary by application: cool colors reduce summer cooling load, while darker profiles offer modest winter passive heating. Interlock's energy-efficient colors feature thermal emissivity 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny)—they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs. Homestead receives roughly 3452 sunshine hours per year, enough to make reflectance valuable on south-facing roofs. The metal substrate conducts and dissipates heat far faster than asphalt, reducing attic temperature and cooling strain on humid days. Choose profile and color for aesthetics; energy benefits follow naturally.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shake?

Virtually none, compared to alternatives. Asphalt shingles in Homestead's 78 annual freeze-thaw cycles degrade quickly and shed granules. Wood shake cracks, rots, and invites moss and insects—routine replacement required. Concrete tile is heavy (Interlock's Tile is about 96% lighter) and needs sealing. Aluminum metal roofing sheds debris naturally, resists moss growth, and requires only occasional gutter cleaning. The Alunar® 70% PVDF coating is rated CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. No granule loss, no rot, no sealing—asphalt demands far more homeowner time and money over 20–25 years.

Is aluminum roofing actually more sustainable than asphalt shingles?

Yes, in the full cycle. Asphalt shingles are petroleum-derived, non-recyclable, and end up in landfills by the millions of tons yearly. Aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable; at end of life (decades away), your roof returns to the material stream indefinitely. Homestead's 193 cm annual snow and 78 freeze-thaw days mean asphalt is replaced every 15–25 years, generating 3–4 roofing tear-offs per building lifespan. Each tear-off adds waste to landfills. One Interlock metal roof eliminates that cycle, reducing your home's environmental footprint while recycling aluminum requires a fraction of the energy to produce new metal.

Can metal roofing be installed over my existing asphalt roof without tearing off?

Yes. Because aluminum metal panels are extraordinarily lightweight—the Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Shake at 0.58—installation over existing roofing requires no structural reinforcement in virtually all cases. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., serving the region since 1997, assesses your deck and fastening substrate before quoting. Installing over existing shingles eliminates tear-off labor and landfill waste, reducing project duration and mess. Building code compliance is confirmed via ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025, IBC/IRC). A solid deck and underlayment keep the roof rain-quiet; your installer will advise whether your current roof supports overlay.
