What our customers are saying:

★★★★★
Review: August 15, 2019Completion: July 8, 2019

The communication between salesman and the installers. We agreed that the installers would run the TV cable along the side of the house under the awning but it is still laying on the roof. I will contact comcast to try and get this addressed. I am also unsure if the vent for the roof got taken care of. There is a dryer/restroom vent on the roof that was stuck shut and trapping humidity in the attic under the roof. I am going to try and see if I can go up and check this myself. Ivan noticed the condensation residue from the vent holes on the side of the house. He said that would also be taken care of.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Fairview

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Fairview, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Fairview.

Will a metal roof handle Fairview's snow and ice buildup?

Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice effectively, and the light weight (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed even under Fairview's annual 48 cm of snow. The smooth, hard surface of the Alunar coating resists ice adhesion better than asphalt, reducing dangerous ice dams. With about 36 freeze-thaw days per year here, this matters: the aluminum's oxide layer won't crack or degrade from repeated temperature swings. Optional snow guards can be specified if you want controlled sliding off steep pitches.

Why is aluminum better than steel roofing for Oregon's wet climate?

Steel rusts because it contains iron; aluminum contains no iron and therefore cannot rust, no matter how wet it gets. Fairview averages 1468 mm of annual rainfall—that's continuous moisture exposure—yet aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, providing permanent corrosion immunity. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both panel sides, adding 30-year warranty protection against salt air and acidic rain. Steel requires ongoing maintenance; aluminum roofing with this dual-sided coating is maintenance-free for decades.

Can a metal roof withstand Fairview's coastal wind gusts?

Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist 120 mph winds, and Fairview's typical gust speeds reach about 116 km/h (72 mph)—well within that safety margin. The four-way interlocking design locks panels together on all sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. This engineering, verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation, means the roof won't flutter, lift, or separate even during the strongest regional storms. Proper installation to spec is essential; our local crew has been installing here since 1997.

Does hail damage matter for metal roofing in Oregon?

Although Fairview isn't a high-hail zone, Interlock's UL 2218 Class 4 rating—the highest available—covers impact perforation up to 1.5 inches. That same durability helps with occasional severe weather and means your homeowner's insurance may offer discounts for non-denting, non-penetrating metal roofing. The impact-resistant Alunar coating retains its durability across the 2957 sunshine hours Fairview receives annually, so the roof's protective integrity doesn't degrade over time. Check with your insurer about potential premium reductions.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?

A metal roof costs more upfront than asphalt, but you buy it once and own it for life. Asphalt shingles in Fairview's 1468 mm-per-year rainfall and 36 annual freeze-thaw cycles typically last 15–20 years before curling, cracking, and losing granules. An Interlock roof carries The Guardian lifetime limited warranty—non-prorated for the first owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, and cracking. Over 50+ years, replacing asphalt twice or three times, plus tear-off disposal costs and re-roofing labor, your total cost of ownership strongly favors the aluminum roof that never needs replacement.

How long does installation take, and can it go over my existing roof?

Most Interlock installations complete in 2–5 days depending on roof size and complexity. One major advantage: the extraordinarily light weight—Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft, Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft—means the roof can install directly over most existing asphalt shingles without structural reinforcement. No tear-off, no landfill trip, no weeks of exposed roof. Our local crew, serving the region since 1997, will evaluate your existing roof during a free assessment. Fairview's typical 15 km/h winds and moderate rain allow straightforward installation schedules.

Does a metal roof help with heating and cooling costs?

Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it like asphalt, reducing cooling load in summer. The Aged Copper Penny profile achieves initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning it sheds heat while radiating warm air away in winter too. With Fairview's 2957 annual sunshine hours, that reflectance advantage compounds year-round. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms these thermal properties. While Fairview's mean temperature is a cool 11.5°C, the reflective performance still reduces air-conditioning cycling on warm summer days and supports consistent indoor temperature without heavy HVAC work.

What warranty comes with an Interlock roof, and is it really transferable?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no deductible. When you sell, the next owner receives a one-time transfer, good for 50 years from completion. That two-generation coverage reflects the reality of aluminum roofing: the Alunar coating carries a separate 30-year warrant against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured), and the aluminum substrate itself never corrodes. Few roofing products offer this kind of multi-decade peace of mind.

Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt?

Approximately 95% of Interlock panels are recyclable aluminum; when a roof finally reaches end-of-life decades from now, the material returns to the scrap market rather than a landfill. Asphalt shingles—which fail every 15–20 years in Fairview's 1468 mm rain and 36 freeze-thaw days—are typically torn off and discarded, repeating the cycle. Over a 50-year period, your aluminum roof prevents 2–3 asphalt tear-offs and their associated landfill impact and disposal carbon. The product is also CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, meaning fewer chemical treatments and no ongoing upkeep to prolong its life.

How does a metal roof handle Fairview's heavy rainfall without leaking?

Interlock's four-way interlocking panels overlap on all four edges, creating a shingle-like weather barrier that sheds 1468 mm of annual rainfall by design. Panels lock together so tightly that water is mechanically forced down and off the roof; there's no gap where rain can seep sideways. Fasteners are concealed within the interlocked seams, so nail holes—a common leak point in traditional roofing—are protected from direct water impact. Over 25+ years of coastal Oregon installations, this panel geometry has proven itself in some of North America's wettest climates. Proper flashing at valleys and penetrations, installed to ICC-ES ESR-1790 spec, completes the system.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Fairview’s climate?

Yes. Fairview averages about 48 cm of snow, 1468 mm of rain, roughly 36 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 116 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
