Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Wheeler, Oregon
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
I wish there were a 4.75 rating, or something between 4 and 5, because although we are quite happy with our new roof...my policy is \*never\* to give a 5 out of 5 rating (because there is no such thing as perfection, and when everyone gives 5 stars, as seems to be the case nowadays, then 5 stars means nothing). We now have a beautiful (just ask our neighbors, several of whom have made it a point to tell us that they love it), but more important, high quality, life-guaranteed interlock roof. This is on the Oregon coast, and if you live on the coast or know anyone who does, you may know that "beach time" prevails, and local work crews will often start a job and disappear for "surf's up" or other beach distraction/things. Not in this case. What our friends (who had an interlock roof installed, several years ago) told us was was true: when the interlock installation crew was here, they \*worked,\* long and hard, and as long as the light (and weather conditions) would allow. The installation went smoothy, save for two glitches: (1) a gap due to the weather (not sure why the scheduler scheduled our project to start when the forecast clearly was for rain); (2) the person who measured our two skylights, which were being replaced as part of the installation, ordered the wrong size (which added another half day on to the installation, as the installer crew lead had to drive to Portland to get the correct size). But neither of those two glitches were the installation crew's fault, and we were impressed with the crew's work, their friendliness, and their cleanup afterward (and every day of the job - they did not leave trash lying about). I did my research before comparing and checking out varous kinds of roofs (e.g. comp; metal) and was highly motivated to get the interlock roof, and am glad that we did so. Bring on the hurricane, we are not afraid! Positive: Quality, Professionalism Services: Roof installation, Skylight installation
My wife saw an add for Interlock Roofing on Facebook, and we could not be any happier. We had a cedar shake roof and wanted to maintain that look. Interlock had just the product that is absolutely perfect. A product that we will never have to replace again. My neighbor was admiring the roof again the other day and told me that I really didn’t have any idea about the number of people that have complimented my roof to him! I have to say something about the installation crew, just amazing great guys. Talk about no messing around, they put in 12 hours a day easy just a great company to deal with. I whole heartily would recommend Interlock Roofing and it’s my belief that you would be remiss not to look at their products.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Wheeler
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Wheeler, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Wheeler.
How does a metal roof handle Wheeler's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow effectively because aluminum is slippery and expands minimally in freeze-thaw swings. Wheeler averages about 47 cm of snow yearly and roughly 16 freeze-thaw days, which cycles ordinary asphalt and wood roofs in and out constantly—cracking and curling them over time. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels stay locked tight through that movement. The lightweight design (Cedar Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural worry from snow accumulation, and the panel design naturally sheds meltwater without ice dam traps. Installation of snow guards is straightforward if you want extra control.
With 2000+ mm of annual rain in Tillamook County, can metal roofing really stay watertight?
Yes—the four-way interlocking seam design creates a continuous barrier that sheds water faster than asphalt absorbs it. Wheeler's climate delivers roughly 2066 mm of rain per year, making leak prevention non-negotiable. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four edges, eliminating the nail holes and gaps that plague shingle roofs in heavy rainfall. Water flows off the standing seams or over the shingled profiles without pooling or finding entry points. The aluminum deck and Alunar coating (applied to both sides) mean no wood rot, no moisture-trapped substrate—just sustained performance through decades of Pacific Northwest downpours.
Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement needed, even if your home is an older build. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs over most existing roofs without adding stress. A typical asphalt roof already supports its own weight; aluminum simply replaces that load with a fraction of it. Even if you're upgrading from wood shakes or a damaged roof, the ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms that Interlock installs over existing substrates as long as they're structurally sound. Your framing sees less load, your attic stays cooler without extra mass absorbing heat, and installation stays faster and simpler.
Are four-way interlocking panels secure in Wheeler's coastal wind gusts?
Four-way interlocking means the roof resists shear forces that would peel asphalt or shake shingles away. Tillamook County gusts reach about 136 km/h, and Interlock's aluminum panels are warranted to hold firm at 120 mph (193 km/h) wind speeds when installed to specification. Unlike shingles nailed individually (where wind can lift each one separately), every panel locks into its neighbors top, bottom, left, and right—distributing wind load across the entire system. The lightweight design (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft) actually helps: there's less lift force pulling against the seams. After 27 years serving the PNW, Interlock installations routinely survive Pacific storm systems that damage conventional roofs.
What happens to metal roofing in a hailstorm? Does insurance cover it?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That rating means the roof withstands repeated steel-ball impacts that would dent or crack asphalt, wood, or tile. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts on homes with metal roofs, especially in hail-prone regions. Because aluminum dents rather than shatters, cosmetic impacts don't compromise water-tightness. Over Wheeler's typical 47 cm annual snowfall and variable spring weather, a Class 4 roof eliminates the hail-claim cycle that drives up your premiums year after year.
What's the real lifespan and warranty on an Interlock metal roof?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner—covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no year-by-year reduction. When you sell, the warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding tangible resale appeal. In practice, roofs installed 27 years ago by our regional team are still performing. The aluminum alloy (3105-H24 / 3003-H24 per ASTM B209) and 30-year Alunar coating weathering warranty mean you're not buying a roof that will fail at year 20 or 30—you're buying one that outlasts the house's financing and then some. That's a fundamental shift from the asphalt roof replacement cycle.
Can a metal roof actually reduce my cooling costs in Oregon?
energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (like Aged Copper Penny) reflect the summer heat that dark asphalt absorbs and radiates into your attic. Even though Wheeler enjoys only about 2884 hours of annual sunshine, those clear days add up—and the reflectance cuts the infrared load your air conditioning has to handle. Cool Roof Rating Council-rated Interlock profiles perform the same cooling duty asphalt can't: they stay cooler to the touch, transfer less heat downward, and in spring and fall when days warm up, you'll feel the difference in attic temperature. Over a 50-year lifespan, that efficiency compounds into real energy savings, especially compared to roof replacements that start the absorption cycle over.
What does maintaining an Interlock metal roof actually involve?
Maintenance for Interlock is minimal: occasional gutter cleaning and visual inspection—that's it. Unlike asphalt roofs, which require regular algae treatment and shingle replacement, or wood shakes, which need anti-rot sealing every few years, aluminum panels don't degrade, split, curl, or absorb moisture. The Alunar coating withstands Wheeler's 2066 mm annual rainfall and 16 freeze-thaw cycles without chalking or fading (30-year warranty, ASTM tested). You don't refinish it, don't replace flashing fasteners due to rust, don't power-wash to remove growth. CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, the roof simply weathers in place, shedding debris and water naturally. Your time and money go toward other home priorities—not roof upkeep.
Who installs Interlock roofs in Wheeler, and how long have they been around?
Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served this region since 1997—nearly 30 years of installations from coastal salt-air homes to mountain properties. The parent company has manufactured these four-way interlocking aluminum panels in Delta, BC since 1998, so your local installer carries genuine expertise and product knowledge that matters when snow, rain, and wind are part of the job. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or get 10% off installation. Whether you choose Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, or Standing Seam profiles, the team understands Tillamook County's wet climate and can install over your existing roof without surprise structural work. That local track record beats mail-order contractors every time.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Over the roof's life, metal is the last roof you buy; asphalt is a recurring expense. An asphalt roof lasts 15-20 years in Oregon's wet climate, then you tear it off and landfill it—and buy again. Interlock installs once and performs for 50+ years under warranty, outlasting two or three asphalt cycles. You're comparing a higher initial cost against zero replacement cost, zero tear-off fees, and zero landfill tipping. Factor in energy savings from reflective coatings over decades, minimal maintenance, and resale value bump (transferable 50-year warranty appeals to buyers), and the math shifts decisively. Current financing—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off—tightens that equation further. Ask yourself: would you rather own a roof or rent one from the asphalt cycle?
