| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |

What our customers are saying:
I wish there were a 4.75 rating, or something between 4 and 5, because although we are quite happy with our new roof...my policy is \*never\* to give a 5 out of 5 rating (because there is no such thing as perfection, and when everyone gives 5 stars, as seems to be the case nowadays, then 5 stars means nothing). We now have a beautiful (just ask our neighbors, several of whom have made it a point to tell us that they love it), but more important, high quality, life-guaranteed interlock roof. This is on the Oregon coast, and if you live on the coast or know anyone who does, you may know that "beach time" prevails, and local work crews will often start a job and disappear for "surf's up" or other beach distraction/things. Not in this case. What our friends (who had an interlock roof installed, several years ago) told us was was true: when the interlock installation crew was here, they \*worked,\* long and hard, and as long as the light (and weather conditions) would allow. The installation went smoothy, save for two glitches: (1) a gap due to the weather (not sure why the scheduler scheduled our project to start when the forecast clearly was for rain); (2) the person who measured our two skylights, which were being replaced as part of the installation, ordered the wrong size (which added another half day on to the installation, as the installer crew lead had to drive to Portland to get the correct size). But neither of those two glitches were the installation crew's fault, and we were impressed with the crew's work, their friendliness, and their cleanup afterward (and every day of the job - they did not leave trash lying about). I did my research before comparing and checking out varous kinds of roofs (e.g. comp; metal) and was highly motivated to get the interlock roof, and am glad that we did so. Bring on the hurricane, we are not afraid! Positive: Quality, Professionalism Services: Roof installation, Skylight installation
Beautiful roof and would recommend for others looking at options for new roofing. I feel that 25% of the project cost required up front is a bit much. We signed agreement in late November and job was not done until late June of the following year (7 months). It seems like a lengthy time to have quite a bit of money tied up and something less (10-15%) would be more appropriate.
I have already recommended them to several of my friends. I was pleased with the entire process from the initial contact to the follow up after the work. I would recommend this company to anyone. It was a wonderful experience, and the roof has already held up against extreme weather. The warranty also provided great peace of mind. We have never been happier with a purchase for our home. We feel like we've put on a lifetime roof, especially with the guarantee and warranty we have. It's nice to know we will never have to purchase a new roof again.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Manzanita
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Manzanita, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Manzanita.
Why doesn't aluminum metal roofing rust like steel, and why does that matter in Tillamook County?
Aluminum physically cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, even in harsh environments. Manzanita receives about 2066 mm of rain annually and coastal salt air, conditions that would accelerate rust on steel. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy, combined with the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides, ensures your roof stays corrosion-free for decades without the maintenance or replacement cycles steel requires.
Does metal roofing handle Manzanita's snow and ice the way asphalt shingles do?
Metal roofing handles snow better than asphalt. Manzanita averages about 47 cm of snow yearly with roughly 16 freeze-thaw days—cycles that crack and degrade asphalt shingles. Metal's smooth surface sheds snow more effectively, reducing ice dam formation. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels and light weight (the Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) mean no structural reinforcement needed even with accumulated snow load. Snow guards are available if you prefer controlled shedding, but the slick surface and panel design naturally manage the wet, heavy snow Tillamook County receives without deterioration.
With 2000+ mm of rain yearly in Manzanita, how does metal roofing prevent leaks?
Metal roofing excels in heavy-rain climates precisely because of its design. The four-way interlocking panels create a tight seam system—water cannot pool in gaps like it does on asphalt shingles. Manzanita's annual rainfall of about 2066 mm demands superior water shedding, and metal's smooth, sloped panels naturally direct water toward gutters. Installation over solid deck with proper underlayment ensures no water penetration at panel overlap points. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms code compliance for water resistance, and the Guardian Warranty covers any perforation or leak from manufacturing defect—peace of mind during Tillamook's wettest months.
Will metal roofing stay secure during Manzanita's coastal wind gusts?
Yes. Manzanita's typical wind gusts reach about 136 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The interlocking design—where each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides—distributes wind load across the entire roof system rather than relying on fasteners alone. This engineering is verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790 for IBC/IRC compliance. Coastal storms and the region's seasonal gusts are well within the roof's designed performance envelope, with no additional reinforcement or clips needed in most installations.
Can a metal roof reduce hail insurance costs, and does it handle the worst hail?
Metal roofing's durability can qualify you for homeowner insurance discounts because it resists impact damage that destroys asphalt shingles. Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact rating available—warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Tillamook County's 47 cm annual snowfall suggests less hail than inland areas, the aluminum's non-combustible nature and impact resistance are recognized by insurers as loss-reduction features. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating; many carriers offer 5–15% premium reductions for verified impact-resistant roofing, offsetting installation cost over the roof's lifetime.
Does a metal roof reduce energy costs in a cool coastal climate like Manzanita?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat that asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling demand even on Manzanita's 2884 annual sunshine hours. The Aged Copper Penny finish delivers initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84—measured by ASTM D5470 and rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. While Manzanita's mean temperature of 10.9°C means heating, not cooling, dominates your utility bill, a reflective metal roof reduces summer cooling costs and keeps your home more comfortable during occasional warm spells. Unlike dark asphalt that absorbs and re-radiates heat into the attic, metal's light weight and reflective coating act as a natural thermal barrier.
How much lighter is a metal tile roof than real slate or concrete tile, and does that matter for Manzanita homes?
Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Real slate or tile often requires structural reinforcement costing thousands in framing upgrades; Interlock installs over most existing roofs without it. Manzanita's heavy, wet climate means your home already bears significant snow and rain loads; metal roofing eliminates the weight penalty of traditional materials while delivering their appearance. The aluminum's light weight and the four-way interlocking system distribute loads efficiently, so homeowners avoid the structural work, timeline delays, and expense that slate or clay tile demand.
What maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt shingles or wood shake?
Metal roofing requires virtually no ongoing maintenance—no sealing, no moss treatment, no algae cleaning. Unlike asphalt shingles, which deteriorate under Manzanita's 2066 mm annual rainfall and 16 freeze-thaw cycles, aluminum doesn't rot, split, or curl. Wood shake decays in damp coastal air, requiring constant repair. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so repainting is unnecessary. Occasionally clear gutters and check flashing after severe weather; that's it. The Guardian Warranty covers cracking, splitting, curling, and corrosion—effectively guaranteeing zero maintenance-related defects for the original owner's lifetime, freeing you from the cycle of replacing shingles every 15–20 years.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt over the long term?
Metal roofing costs more initially but lasts far longer, eliminating the asphalt replacement cycle. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years in Manzanita's wet, freeze-thaw climate; you'd replace them 2–3 times in 50 years, each time paying removal, disposal, and installation labor. A metal roof installed once lasts a lifetime with no tear-off cost. Factor in zero maintenance, no repainting, no emergency repairs from hail or wind damage, and potential insurance discounts. The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, then transferable to the next owner for 50 years—meaning your roof holds value through the sale. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation, making the total cost-of-ownership comparison decisive in metal's favor.
How long does a metal roof actually last, and what does the warranty really cover?
Interlock metal roofing lasts 50+ years with proper maintenance, backed by the Guardian Warranty—a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, protecting resale value. Manzanita's 2066 mm rain, 47 cm snow, and coastal air pose challenges that asphalt shingles fail under in 15–20 years; aluminum's oxide layer and PVDF coating are engineered to withstand decades of this exposure. No other roofing—asphalt, wood, or concrete tile—offers equivalent coverage. This lifetime commitment reflects Interlock's confidence in 27 years of manufacturing and real-world installations from salt-air coastal homes to Antarctica.
