Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Nehalem, Oregon
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
I wish there were a 4.75 rating, or something between 4 and 5, because although we are quite happy with our new roof...my policy is \*never\* to give a 5 out of 5 rating (because there is no such thing as perfection, and when everyone gives 5 stars, as seems to be the case nowadays, then 5 stars means nothing). We now have a beautiful (just ask our neighbors, several of whom have made it a point to tell us that they love it), but more important, high quality, life-guaranteed interlock roof. This is on the Oregon coast, and if you live on the coast or know anyone who does, you may know that "beach time" prevails, and local work crews will often start a job and disappear for "surf's up" or other beach distraction/things. Not in this case. What our friends (who had an interlock roof installed, several years ago) told us was was true: when the interlock installation crew was here, they \*worked,\* long and hard, and as long as the light (and weather conditions) would allow. The installation went smoothy, save for two glitches: (1) a gap due to the weather (not sure why the scheduler scheduled our project to start when the forecast clearly was for rain); (2) the person who measured our two skylights, which were being replaced as part of the installation, ordered the wrong size (which added another half day on to the installation, as the installer crew lead had to drive to Portland to get the correct size). But neither of those two glitches were the installation crew's fault, and we were impressed with the crew's work, their friendliness, and their cleanup afterward (and every day of the job - they did not leave trash lying about). I did my research before comparing and checking out varous kinds of roofs (e.g. comp; metal) and was highly motivated to get the interlock roof, and am glad that we did so. Bring on the hurricane, we are not afraid! Positive: Quality, Professionalism Services: Roof installation, Skylight installation
My wife saw an add for Interlock Roofing on Facebook, and we could not be any happier. We had a cedar shake roof and wanted to maintain that look. Interlock had just the product that is absolutely perfect. A product that we will never have to replace again. My neighbor was admiring the roof again the other day and told me that I really didn’t have any idea about the number of people that have complimented my roof to him! I have to say something about the installation crew, just amazing great guys. Talk about no messing around, they put in 12 hours a day easy just a great company to deal with. I whole heartily would recommend Interlock Roofing and it’s my belief that you would be remiss not to look at their products.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Nehalem
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Nehalem, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Nehalem.
Will a metal roof handle Nehalem's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice reliably, even in Tillamook County's average 47 cm annual snowfall and 16 freeze-thaw cycles per year. The smooth, hard surface prevents snow from bonding the way it does to asphalt. Ice dams form when heat melts snow from below; aluminum's high thermal emissivity (0.84 on rated colors) and light weight mean less heat absorption and no structural strain, so drainage is consistent. Optional snow guards are available if you prefer to manage slides yourself.
How does Interlock's design prevent leaks in Nehalem's 2,066 mm of annual rain?
The four-way interlocking design creates a sealed, overlapping barrier—water cascades downward through the channels rather than pooling or finding seams. Combined with proper underlayment and a solid deck installed to ESR-1790 code, this system outperforms traditional shingles that deteriorate under constant moisture. Tillamook County's 2,066 mm annual rainfall is exactly the condition aluminum interlocking was engineered for: the panels' aluminum oxide layer never weakens from water exposure, and fasteners are hidden within the profile, eliminating leak points.
Can Interlock stand up to Nehalem's coastal wind gusts?
Absolutely. Wind gusts in your area reach 136 km/h, and Interlock is warranted to resist 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec—well above your local exposure. The four-way interlocking system locks panels together mechanically, not relying on fasteners alone. This distributed load design has proven itself from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations. The warranty covers wind damage, and installation to ESR-1790 (ICC-ES, reissued 2025) ensures compliance with all Oregon building codes.
Why doesn't an aluminum metal roof rust in a wet climate like Tillamook County?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the metal naturally forms a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched or exposed. This is why Interlock aluminum (3105-H24 and 3003-H24 alloy per ASTM B209) outlasts steel roofing in salt air, wet climates, and coastal regions. Tillamook County's frequent moisture and temperature swings cannot corrode aluminum. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (applied to both sides, warranted 30 years) adds further protection, but the metal itself is inherently corrosion-proof for the life of your home.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No—Interlock's aluminum is extraordinarily light. The Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft and the Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft, making the Tile profile about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most existing roof structures can support these weights without reinforcement, and Interlock typically installs over your current roof, avoiding a costly tear-off. This lightweight advantage also reduces heating load during Nehalem's 47 cm annual snowfall, since the metal doesn't absorb or retain moisture weight the way asphalt and wood do.
Will a metal roof help lower my homeowner's insurance in Oregon?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and is warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize Class 4 metal roofs as lower-risk than asphalt, sometimes offering discounts; contact your agent with the UL 2218 certification. While Nehalem's climate leans toward rain and wind over severe hail, the non-combustible aluminum (Class A fire classification available) and impact durability together position your home favorably for underwriting. The Guardian Warranty covers impact-related damage for the original owner's lifetime.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Yes—Interlock is the last roof you buy. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years in wet climates like Tillamook County (2,066 mm rain annually), requiring replacement, disposal, and reinstallation costs multiple times over your ownership. Interlock's lifetime limited, non-prorated Guardian Warranty covers material for the original owner and transfers 50 years to the next owner, eliminating the cycle. Over 40–50 years, a single metal installation costs less than 2–3 asphalt replacements, plus you avoid landfill tear-offs. Current financing is available: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.
What exactly does the Interlock warranty cover?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material coverage for the original owner—meaning no deductibles or reduced payouts over time. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty transfers once to the next owner, providing 50-year coverage from completion. This certainty is rare in roofing. Combined with the 30-year Alunar coating warranty against chalking and fading (verified to ASTM D4214/D2244 standards) and the aluminum's inherent corrosion resistance, your roof is protected across every failure mode relevant to Nehalem's climate.
How long does installation take, and do I have to remove my old roof?
Installation typically takes 2–5 days depending on roof size and complexity, with no structural work required. Interlock installs over most existing roofs—asphalt shingles, wood, or composition—because the panels weigh only 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft. This saves thousands in tear-off labor and landfill fees while reducing project disruption. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and handles permitting and inspections to meet ESR-1790 (ICC-ES 2025) Oregon code. Current financing (no payments/interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off) covers installation labor and materials.
Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?
Yes. energy-efficient Interlock colors feature thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs. In summer, when Nehalem averages 2,884 sunshine hours annually, this reflectance keeps your roof surface cooler, reducing cooling load. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms measurable energy savings. Winter benefit is equally important: the reflective finish reduces nighttime radiative loss, and the aluminum's lightweight design provides less thermal mass to heat, lowering overall seasonal HVAC demand. Combined with proper attic ventilation, a reflective metal roof pays for itself partly through energy savings.
