Review: June 14, 2025 Completion: May 16, 2025

Long wait on materials, installation was good, but not what I would call great (some dents, some uneven areas). The overall project had the potential to be fantastic (due to the construction of the house) and it fell short of that, but still looks great. Also dissappointed that they could not provide me with a certification letter for the wind, hail, and fire resistance. So installation had no effect on my homeowners insurance. At my previous home in Texas, that was standard for all roofing contractors. See previous comments

Review: May 14, 2025 Completion: November 19, 2024

This is the second review I have ever given. Absolutely couldn’t be happier about our new roof/skylights and the folks I dealt with during the whole process. Begins with the no pressure sales, support staff and ends with the people who did the work. Work was done in November and waited to give this review only because I wanted to see how it handled a Vermont winter and see if any issues came up. No issues, none! Not sure why, but I used a lot less oil this winter (colder and snowier winter than normal). Maybe my 30 years old skylights or something to do with the roof system? If you are on the fence about using Interlock Roofing or the Shake Shingle type of roof, my advice to you would be to get off the fence and pull the trigger!

Review: February 11, 2025 Completion: December 9, 2024

Communications with the office could be improved. Dropping and losing nails and scraps in the snow is understandable but not picking up excess nails dropped while filling nail pouches is not okay. Also as a non smoker cigarette butts on the ground are definitely not okay.

Review: November 21, 2024 Completion: October 29, 2024

We just put an Interlock metal roof on our house. We were very happy with Chris's presentation and and decided to move forward with them. They started when they said they would and the crew worked full days until it was complete. The install manager Paul stopped by multiple times and the crew chief, Nazar was very diligent. We look forward to many years ahead of trouble free living through Vermonts wind, rain, and snow. Thank you Chris, and the office staff.

Review: April 18, 2022 Completion: December 14, 2021

Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value We were looking to replace our shingle roof with a standing seam metal roof for our home in Vermont. We called over ten roofing contractors and received quotes from four of them. I had the best feeling about Interlock Roofing from the beginning, mostly due to my interactions with Mark. Additionally, they were the most competitive on price. Once we committed and signed a contract, we dealt with Jennifer and Paul to coordinate and complete the installation. They were incredibly responsive, and timely, and the entire project was completed in four days. Such a pleasure to work with. The entire process was seamless, and the roof looks phenomenal. Very pleased overall. Service: Roof installation

Review: April 18, 2022 Completion: May 6, 2019

Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Professional, pleasant & responsive staff (Jonathan & Jennifer). The roof is beautiful to look at & highly functional. There was a delay in installation because of VT weather, but that was unavoidable. Jonathan reached out to us after two years to check on us & the roof, which we thought was very considerate & just good business practice. We are very happy with the roof & would recommend Interlock to any of our friends. Service: Roof installation

Review: January 21, 2019 Completion: December 1, 2018

I have two concerns/complaints about my new Interlock roof. A few places along the ridge cap appear raised - instead of being completely straight and level horizontally, there are a few places where two shingles meet in a slightly raised, A-shape. Also there are several places on the porch roof and on the roof between the garage and main house where the shingles are depressed - flattened or "crushed concavely". My guess is it's from being knelt on by the installers and I don't like how it looks. I was told the roof would be installed in October. It wasn't started until November and it wasn't finished until a week before Christmas. The installers endured terribly cold and wet weather and I'm concerned it affected the quality of the installation.

Review: January 13, 2019 Completion: December 22, 2018

Scheduling vs. actual appearance of crew (as above) could have been communicated more clearly. It seems the project was pushed into late December causing my concern as to low temperature (zero \*F) affecting product and installation. So far though, the workmanship and function appears to be at 100%. A few major wind storms since completion had no ill effect, and the intense rain storms have resulted in no penetration into the home. (I could not say that prior to installation!)

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Barnet

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Barnet, Vermont. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Barnet.

How does a metal roof handle Barnet's heavy snow load and ice dams?

Metal roofs shed snow effectively because their smooth, interlocking panels don't trap moisture the way asphalt does, and the thermal properties of aluminum mean less heat loss through the roof that would create ice dams. With about 187 cm of snow annually in Barnet, the lightweight design—Interlock's Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft—won't stress your structure even under heavy accumulation. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel in place, so snow movement doesn't compromise the seal. Optional snow guards keep snow from sliding in one dramatic dump, protecting landscaping and people below.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof in Vermont?

No—aluminum is immune to the cycle damage that cracks asphalt and splits wood shakes. Barnet experiences about 89 freeze-thaw days per year, which is punishing for traditional materials, but aluminum's oxide layer doesn't trap water, so expansion and contraction cause no material degradation. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, actually strengthens the surface's weather resistance through repeated temperature swings. After 26 years of installations from coastal salt-air zones to Antarctic research stations, Interlock panels outperform materials that weaken with every thaw.

Can an aluminum metal roof rust?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element responsible for rust. Instead, aluminum develops a self-healing oxide layer when exposed to air; if that layer is scratched, it reforms automatically. In Barnet's moisture-rich climate with nearly 900 mm of annual rainfall, this difference is critical: steel roofs deteriorate through rust staining and structural failure, while aluminum becomes more durable. The Alunar finish applied to both sides of every panel adds an extra fluorocarbon barrier, making corrosion physically impossible. This is why Interlock's Guardian Warranty covers rusting with a lifetime limited guarantee—it's not a risk.

Will a metal roof blow off in Vermont wind and ice storms?

The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph, which exceeds Barnet's typical gusts of about 117 km/h (73 mph). The interlocking design—where each panel's edges overlap and lock together mechanically—distributes wind load across the whole roof rather than relying on fasteners to hold individual shingles. In an ice storm where wind and weight combine, the continuous panel system performs better than granule-shedding asphalt, which can fail at fasteners. When installed to Interlock's specification over solid decking, your roof will remain intact in the storms this region actually sees.

Does a metal roof actually resist hail, or is that just marketing?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the roof survives repeated impacts that would crack asphalt or shatter tile. Because Vermont's hail events are infrequent but damaging when they occur, this proven rating often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts; contact your agent with the UL 2218 documentation. The aluminum's hardness and the panel's structural rigidity mean hail damage is extremely rare, and when it does happen, the warranty stands behind it without the typical insurance deductible haggle.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

An Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile—so no structural reinforcement is needed. If your home currently has asphalt shingles, you can install Interlock directly over the existing roof, saving the cost and landfill impact of tearing off old material. This is a practical advantage in Barnet, where many older homes have rafters engineered for traditional shingle weight, not slate or tile. The lightweight design also means faster installation and lower labor costs, and your home's foundation and frame stay in their original condition.

What maintenance does a metal roof actually need in Vermont winters?

Interlock metal roofing requires no annual inspections, gutter clearing, or treatment applications—it needs far less maintenance than asphalt (which sheds granules yearly), wood shakes (which split and rot), or tile (which cracks). Barnet's 2,816 annual sunshine hours and nearly 900 mm of rain naturally rinse the Alunar-coated surface clean. The interlocking design sheds debris without trapping it, and the non-porous aluminum never absorbs moisture or supports moss growth. You'll never need to power-wash, re-coat, or replace individual shingles. This hands-off durability is one reason CALGreen verification credits metal roofing for reduced maintenance burden.

What's the real lifespan of a metal roof, and is the warranty actually transferable?

Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. When you sell your home, the warranty transfers once, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from the roof's completion date. This dual-owner protection is rare and reflects the manufacturer's confidence in durability; Interlock has been installed since 1998. In Barnet's freeze-thaw and snow climate, you're looking at a roof that will outlast the house itself—and the transferability protects your home's resale appeal.

Will a metal roof actually cool my home and lower energy bills?

Yes—Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect heat rather than absorb it, with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny). While Barnet averages a cool 5.2°C year-round, the summer sun still adds load to air conditioning during warm months, and reflective coatings reduce that without changing your roof's appearance. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating means your heat-reflective choice is independently verified. Over a 50-year lifespan, the cooling savings accumulate; asphalt absorbs heat and accelerates shingle degradation in summer, while aluminum's reflectance keeps surface temperatures lower.

How does a metal roof compare to asphalt shingles for the environment?

Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, so your roof doesn't end up in a landfill the way asphalt shingles do. Traditional roofing tear-offs in Vermont are typically disposed of as waste; Interlock panels, when eventually replaced (decades from now), have real scrap value and are melted down for new products. The manufacturing process uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloys to specification ASTM B209, proven durable enough that a single installation lasts 50+ years. By choosing aluminum, you break the asphalt replacement-and-landfill cycle and give your roof a circular second life.
