What our customers are saying:
Long wait on materials, installation was good, but not what I would call great (some dents, some uneven areas). The overall project had the potential to be fantastic (due to the construction of the house) and it fell short of that, but still looks great. Also dissappointed that they could not provide me with a certification letter for the wind, hail, and fire resistance. So installation had no effect on my homeowners insurance. At my previous home in Texas, that was standard for all roofing contractors. See previous comments
This is the second review I have ever given. Absolutely couldn’t be happier about our new roof/skylights and the folks I dealt with during the whole process. Begins with the no pressure sales, support staff and ends with the people who did the work. Work was done in November and waited to give this review only because I wanted to see how it handled a Vermont winter and see if any issues came up. No issues, none! Not sure why, but I used a lot less oil this winter (colder and snowier winter than normal). Maybe my 30 years old skylights or something to do with the roof system? If you are on the fence about using Interlock Roofing or the Shake Shingle type of roof, my advice to you would be to get off the fence and pull the trigger!
Communications with the office could be improved. Dropping and losing nails and scraps in the snow is understandable but not picking up excess nails dropped while filling nail pouches is not okay. Also as a non smoker cigarette butts on the ground are definitely not okay.
We just put an Interlock metal roof on our house. We were very happy with Chris's presentation and and decided to move forward with them. They started when they said they would and the crew worked full days until it was complete. The install manager Paul stopped by multiple times and the crew chief, Nazar was very diligent. We look forward to many years ahead of trouble free living through Vermonts wind, rain, and snow. Thank you Chris, and the office staff.
Very pleased with the quality and appearance of the roofing. None No
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value We were looking to replace our shingle roof with a standing seam metal roof for our home in Vermont. We called over ten roofing contractors and received quotes from four of them. I had the best feeling about Interlock Roofing from the beginning, mostly due to my interactions with Mark. Additionally, they were the most competitive on price. Once we committed and signed a contract, we dealt with Jennifer and Paul to coordinate and complete the installation. They were incredibly responsive, and timely, and the entire project was completed in four days. Such a pleasure to work with. The entire process was seamless, and the roof looks phenomenal. Very pleased overall. Service: Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Professional, pleasant & responsive staff (Jonathan & Jennifer). The roof is beautiful to look at & highly functional. There was a delay in installation because of VT weather, but that was unavoidable. Jonathan reached out to us after two years to check on us & the roof, which we thought was very considerate & just good business practice. We are very happy with the roof & would recommend Interlock to any of our friends. Service: Roof installation
I have two concerns/complaints about my new Interlock roof. A few places along the ridge cap appear raised - instead of being completely straight and level horizontally, there are a few places where two shingles meet in a slightly raised, A-shape. Also there are several places on the porch roof and on the roof between the garage and main house where the shingles are depressed - flattened or "crushed concavely". My guess is it's from being knelt on by the installers and I don't like how it looks. I was told the roof would be installed in October. It wasn't started until November and it wasn't finished until a week before Christmas. The installers endured terribly cold and wet weather and I'm concerned it affected the quality of the installation.
Scheduling vs. actual appearance of crew (as above) could have been communicated more clearly. It seems the project was pushed into late December causing my concern as to low temperature (zero \*F) affecting product and installation. So far though, the workmanship and function appears to be at 100%. A few major wind storms since completion had no ill effect, and the intense rain storms have resulted in no penetration into the home. (I could not say that prior to installation!)

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in East Hardwick
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in East Hardwick, Vermont. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in East Hardwick.
How does a metal roof handle East Hardwick's heavy snow load and ice dams?
Metal roofs shed snow faster than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface and thermal properties (0.84 emissivity) prevent the ice-dam cycle that plagues darker shingles in freeze-thaw climates. East Hardwick averages about 197 cm of snow annually and approximately 85 freeze-thaw days per year—exactly the conditions where ice backup causes interior damage. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels stay watertight under pressure; optional snow guards let you control roof runoff without trapping moisture underneath. The lightweight aluminum (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) handles deep snow without sagging, and because panels interlock four ways, melting water cannot migrate laterally into seams.
Why does aluminum hold up better than asphalt or wood in Vermont's freeze-thaw cycle?
Aluminum expands and contracts minimally across temperature swings, whereas asphalt hardens and cracks with repeated freeze-thaw, and wood can split and cup. With roughly 85 freeze-thaw cycles per year in East Hardwick, that daily stress accumulates fast on brittle materials. Aluminum oxide—the protective layer that forms naturally on all aluminum—self-heals when scratched, so small damage never becomes a failure point. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against chalk and fade) seals the surface doubly, preventing moisture infiltration at the molecular level. Over a 50-year lifespan, the material's stability in Vermont's climate becomes the defining advantage.
Can a metal roof withstand East Hardwick wind and ice-load gusts?
Yes—Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, and East Hardwick's typical gusts reach about 103 km/h (64 mph), leaving a 56 mph safety margin. The four-way interlocking design means wind cannot work panels apart or lift a corner; the lock engages on all four edges of each panel simultaneously. Ice loading—which adds weight and sail-effect in wind—is not a limiting factor because the lightweight design (Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) means ice accumulation stress is far lower than on heavy slate or concrete tile. The system's mechanical integrity is verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790, which governs structural compliance for the IRC used in Vermont.
Does hail damage metal roofs, and will my insurance company care?
Interlock holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 is rare; most asphalt and even some metal roofs stop at Class 2 or 3. Many insurers recognize this rating and may lower premiums or waive impact deductibles; check with your agent, but the engineering data (UL 2218) is the industry standard they reference. Because hail is not rare in Vermont's spring season and aluminum's hardness resists denting that would trap water, this one product advantage can reduce your out-of-pocket risk significantly over the 50-year warranty term.
Why can't an aluminum metal roof rust in Vermont's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires iron to form. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopically thin oxide layer that forms instantly when exposed to air and self-heals if scratched, preventing corrosion from spreading. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides of each panel (rated per ASTM B209 for roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy) adds a second barrier. East Hardwick receives about 832 mm of rainfall per year—plenty of moisture—yet water alone cannot attack aluminum the way it attacks steel or iron-based metals. This is why Interlock panels have been installed from salt-air coastal homes to an Antarctic research station; the material is fundamentally corrosion-immune.
Will I need to reinforce my house framing for a metal roof?
No—aluminum's extreme lightness means no structural work is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft and is roughly 96% lighter than the material it mimics. Asphalt shingles weigh roughly 0.5–1.0 lb/sq ft depending on grade, so you're not adding dead load. Because the weight is so low, Interlock installs directly over most existing roof decks without reinforcement, saving the cost and disruption of structural upgrades that traditional tile would demand. This is verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790, which evaluates structural suitability for the IBC and IRC.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to replacing asphalt every 15–20 years?
Metal is typically a higher first cost but the lowest total cost over the life of your home. An asphalt roof lasts 15–20 years in Vermont's climate and must be torn off (landfill waste) and replaced multiple times across 50 years. Interlock comes with a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and one transferable 50-year term for the next owner—meaning you buy it once. The current regional promotion offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, which reduces immediate cash outlay. Multiply asphalt replacement cycles, tear-off labor, and landfill disposal over 50 years against one metal installation and the math favors metal, especially when you factor in avoided insurance deductibles on hail (UL 2218 Class 4 may lower premiums).
Do metal roofs help lower cooling costs in summer?
Yes, if you choose energy-efficient colors. Interlock's reflective coatings achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (measured on Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84, which means the roof reflects heat rather than absorbing it the way dark asphalt does. East Hardwick has about 2,836 sunshine hours per year; over a summer, that reflectivity compounds into measurable cooling savings. The Cool Roof Rating Council recognizes these values, and energy-efficiency certification is verified on the product. Pale or medium-tone profiles (Slate in light finishes, Cedar Shingle in silver-gray) deliver the greatest benefit. While Vermont's heating costs dominate the energy budget, reducing peak air-conditioning load in June through August does extend equipment life and lower demand charges on high-use days.
How much upkeep does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal roofs require minimal maintenance—no algae treatment, no seasonal gutter cleaning from granule breakdown, and no wood staining or sealing. Asphalt shingles degrade from UV exposure and shed granules into gutters annually; wood roofing demands regular treatment to prevent rot, mold, and insect damage, especially in Vermont's 197 cm annual snowfall and 832 mm of rain. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading) resists weathering without refinishing. A rinse every few years removes dust; that is essentially the entire maintenance need. The Guardian Warranty covers cracking, curling, rotting, and splitting—problems that plague wood and asphalt—so your cost of ownership stabilizes immediately after installation, with no surprise repairs draining the budget.
