It would be tentative on how things finish up. I would say they could improve mostly with the installation team and setting expectations on my part. Ross made a fairly big point that it was all Interlock people. He said it was one company that installed and maintained the work. The two gentleman who came to do the installation was driving a truck with a different company name and tags from Massachusetts. I was curious if they had a license to work in Washington. I had trouble communicating with them because their English was poor. They weren't quite clear on what exactly was going to be done. They weren't giving me any background on the roof or the repairs that needed to be done. At one point during the project, I came home from work. I have a side porch that wasn't quoted for. We didn't want to spend the money to get it done. When I came home, they had finished it. I told him it was nice but I am not paying extra for that. It wasn't part of the quote. He said his boss told him to just do everything. At the end of the project, there was an area of the roof that didn't look like it was done properly. He said they struggled to find enough materials to finish the job because they used the material on the side porch. I told them that wasn't my fault. The only way that should have affected me was waiting for more materials to come in. We also had an old fashioned antenna next to the chimney. They were having a hard time getting the flashing on the chimney. I told him to take it down because we don't use it. They just chucked it onto the side yard. I told them they needed to haul that off. They were happy to do it, but I had to tell them. We will see how this all plays out.

I believe that Interlock Roofing should spend more time understanding and pay attention to details. The roof is fine but there are some small issues.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Cottage Lake

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Cottage Lake, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Cottage Lake.

How does a metal roof handle Cottage Lake's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum's smooth, non-porous surface sheds snow and ice efficiently, preventing the buildup that leads to ice dams—a real concern in your area, which averages about 194 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 58 freeze-thaw days per year. Unlike asphalt, which absorbs moisture and degrades through repeated freezing, Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy won't absorb water or weaken as temperatures swing. The four-way interlocking panels create a unified system that handles seasonal stress without cracking or curling. Snow guards are available if you prefer additional control over snow discharge.

Why can't aluminum roofing rust, and why does that matter in the Pacific Northwest?

Aluminum contains no iron, so rust is physically impossible—a fundamental advantage over steel roofing in wet climates like yours, which receives about 1761 mm of rain yearly. When aluminum is scratched or exposed, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects against further corrosion. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides, delivering 30-year protection against chalking and fading. Combined with aluminum's natural corrosion resistance, this dual-layer approach means your roof won't rust, rot, or require the constant maintenance asphalt demands in damp environments.

Will a metal roof leak in Cottage Lake's heavy rainfall?

When installed to specification, Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels create a watertight system designed to handle the 1761 mm of annual rainfall your area receives. The overlapping joint geometry means water is shed downward, not trapped horizontally. Over a solid roof deck with proper underlayment, these panels channel rain exactly as asphalt does—the difference is aluminum won't absorb moisture, degrade at seams, or fail prematurely. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms the system meets IBC/IRC standards for water management. Correct installation by a qualified local installer eliminates leak risk while preserving the longevity of your home's structure beneath.

Can a metal roof withstand Cottage Lake's wind gusts?

Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, well above Cottage Lake's typical gust patterns, which average around 128 km/h on the strongest days. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, creating unified resistance rather than isolated shingles that can lift or fail individually. This mechanical interlock—not adhesive—transfers wind load across the entire roof plane. You get security comparable to or exceeding traditional asphalt in high-wind conditions, without the brittleness that makes shingles vulnerable to tearing in cold, gusty weather.

How does Interlock's hail rating affect insurance and claims in Washington?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many homeowners and insurers recognize this durability, and some insurers offer premium discounts or extended coverage for Class 4-rated roofs. While Cottage Lake's climate emphasizes snow and rain over hail, the impact resistance protects against falling branches, debris from wind gusts reaching 128 km/h, and other impact hazards common in Pacific Northwest weather. Contact your insurance agent to discuss whether your policy offers credits for this level of impact protection—it's a conversation worth having before you roof.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost in Cottage Lake, or will I save money over time?

A metal roof costs more upfront than asphalt but less than slate or clay tile. Over a 50-year horizon, Interlock aluminum typically proves less expensive when you factor in asphalt's recurring tear-off and replacement cycle—usually every 20–25 years in wet climates like yours, which averages 1761 mm rainfall annually. You won't reroof again; the Guardian Warranty covers material defects for your lifetime. Financing is available: currently, no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation, making the entry cost manageable. Frame the decision not as shingle cost versus metal cost, but as one roof versus two or three roofs over your ownership.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?

No. Interlock aluminum is extraordinarily light—the Slate profile installs at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft, and the Tile profile, though heavier at about 0.59 lb/sq ft, is still 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement, saving you money and complexity. In Cottage Lake, where you receive about 194 cm of snow per year, the light weight is an advantage: your roof sheds precipitation efficiently without adding stress to framing that already handles significant seasonal load. By contrast, slate or real tile would require costly structural upgrades. Aluminum gives you the appearance you want without the engineering expense.

How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof require in the Pacific Northwest?

Interlock requires virtually no maintenance compared to asphalt shingles, wood shakes, or tile. Asphalt degrades from UV exposure and moisture in Cottage Lake's 1761 mm of annual rainfall, requiring inspection, spot repairs, and eventual replacement. Wood shakes rot and split through about 58 freeze-thaw cycles per year. Tile cracks and traps debris, demanding regular cleaning. Interlock aluminum, finished with Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty against fading and chalking), simply sheds rain and snow; it won't absorb moisture, curl, or require sealant reapplication. The ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 notes CALGreen verification for reduced maintenance, meaning you're freed from the burden that makes traditional roofing expensive to own long-term.

Who installs Interlock roofing in Cottage Lake, and how long does installation take?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and installs throughout Cottage Lake and King County. Installation timeline depends on your home's size and whether you're installing over an existing roof—one of Interlock's advantages, since the light weight (~0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft) means most homes need no structural prep. A typical residential roof takes one to three days. The local team understands your area's rainfall patterns (~1761 mm annually) and wind conditions, ensuring proper deck preparation and water management. Working with an installer embedded in your community means faster response, easier warranty service, and the confidence that your roof meets local code and weathers local conditions reliably.

Is Interlock roofing environmentally responsible compared to asphalt shingles?

Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, breaking the asphalt roofing cycle: tear off → landfill → reroof → repeat. Asphalt shingles, which dominate residential roofing, are difficult to recycle and end up in landfills by the million tons annually. Because Interlock lasts your lifetime (with transferable 50-year coverage for the next owner), you eliminate multiple tear-offs and replacements over a century. Cottage Lake's rainfall (~1761 mm yearly) accelerates asphalt degradation, driving the tear-off cycle faster in wet climates. By choosing aluminum that never needs replacement, you reduce waste, transportation emissions, and the environmental cost of roofing material production. Sustainability here isn't an aspiration—it's the default outcome of choosing a roof that lasts.
