Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Clyde Hill, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |

What our customers are saying:
To a person everybody in sales (Ross specifically) at Interlock Roofing was knowledgeable and professional. When we were evaluating our roofing alternatives, they took the time and energy to answer our many questions. Obviously, there are less expensive alternatives, and they did a good job explaining the differences between the various roofing and metal roofing options. Patrick and May were great at setting our expectations prior to installation. On the installation side I had a list of items for review prior to work being done. Tony the manager and Poval (sp) his crew lead made sure each of those items were addressed to our satisfaction. We have had the new roof for only 6 days and the roof looks amazing and our house looks much better. [modula id="139676"]
We were extremely satisfied with the result of the installation of the roof. The process was smooth, and the quality of the product is very good. The communication after the signing of the contract could be better. I was extremely happy with the installation, and the product is supreme.
I assume Damon must be keeping himself too busy with his job these days, but, somehow I had not received any picture of roof top of my house as he promised me. It is over a month since it was completed.
n/a I have not yet been able to get a service callback, to reinstall some rafter supports that were cut during the installation, and not replaced.
Interlock Roofing did a great job.
Deciding to switch to an aluminum roof was a significant decision for us, and honestly, the selection process was a bit overwhelming. There are so many styles and finishes available, and it took us quite a while to finally make our choice. If you're considering aluminum, be prepared to invest time in understanding your options. The installation process itself also took longer than we initially anticipated, especially compared to the asphalt shingle replacements we've had done in the past. This is something to factor into your timeline if you're working with specific deadlines. However, despite the longer decision and installation periods, we are extremely pleased with the final result. The aluminum roof looks fantastic and has significantly improved the curb appeal of our home. It truly turned out nice. We were also impressed with the attention to detail shown by Interlock Metal Roofing. They used what appeared to be the correct mounting hardware, ensuring a secure and professional installation. Additionally, they didn't hesitate to replace any damaged or weakened boards as needed, which gave us peace of mind regarding the roof's long-term integrity. Overall, while the decision-making and installation processes were more involved than expected, the quality of the finished product and the professionalism of Interlock Metal Roofing made it a worthwhile investment. We would recommend them to others considering an aluminum roof, with the caveat that they should be prepared for a longer timeline.
We just mostly had problems with the people that came. We had no idea what was going on or when they were coming. I know it is rainy season but the roof leaked. Everything was fine except for the people who came. They did not have good customer service. They were nice but we did not know if they were going to show up, when they were going to be done and when the materials were going to be delivered.
I haven't received a bill yet. I think today a payment was due and I have no idea of where to sent my money.
Making sure you get the permits!!
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Clyde Hill
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Clyde Hill, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Clyde Hill.
How does a metal roof handle Clyde Hill's heavy snow and ice?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice effectively because their smooth surface and light weight prevent the ice-dam buildup that plagues heavier asphalt and tile roofs. With about 120 cm of snow falling annually in your area and roughly 58 freeze-thaw cycles per year, the material's thermal properties and non-absorbent finish mean water cannot trap in micro-cracks. The panels' interlocking design, rated to UL 2218 Class 4 impact standards, ensures structural integrity even when snow guards are installed to manage snow release safely.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in King County damage aluminum metal roofing?
No—freeze-thaw damage does not occur in aluminum because the material has no pores to trap water. Asphalt shingles and wood shake absorb moisture, which expands when it freezes, causing splitting and cracking. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy is non-porous; with about 1761 mm of annual rainfall and 58 freeze-thaw days per year in Clyde Hill, water simply runs off. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating applied to both sides adds another moisture barrier, warranted 30 years against degradation.
Can aluminum roofing rust in a wet Pacific Northwest climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it develops a microscopic oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath; if scratched, this layer self-heals automatically. In wet regions like King County, which averages nearly 1761 mm of rain yearly, this passive protection is superior to steel roofing, which requires constant maintenance. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish—applied to both sides of every panel—adds an extra 30-year warranty against corrosion, making aluminum ideal for Clyde Hill's damp conditions.
Do metal roofs blow off in Clyde Hill's windstorms?
No—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Clyde Hill experiences typical daily-maximum winds around 11 km/h with gusts reaching 128 km/h, well within that capacity. The interlocking design distributes wind load across the entire panel assembly rather than relying on fasteners alone, which is why the warranty covers storm winds. This is particularly important in King County's fall and winter months when windstorms are common.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing in Clyde Hill?
No reinforcement is needed because Interlock panels are extraordinarily light. The Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, installs at approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—while the Slate installs at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft. Most Clyde Hill homes can support the added weight of a new metal roof directly over existing asphalt shingles without any structural upgrades. This weight advantage, combined with ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 compliance, means faster installation and lower labor costs compared to traditional tile.
Does heavy rain leak through metal roofs in the Pacific Northwest?
Heavy rainfall is actually ideal for metal roofing because the interlocking panel design naturally channels water downward with no pooling. Clyde Hill receives approximately 1761 mm of rain annually, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are tested to ICC-ES ESR-1790 standards to handle that volume without leaks. The smooth, non-absorbent aluminum surface and sealed panel joints prevent water from penetrating the substrate. When installed to specification over solid deck and underlayment by a qualified installer, the system performs identically to asphalt in heavy rain—without deteriorating like shingles do.
Can hail damage a metal roof, and will my insurance cover it?
Interlock metal roofing is exceptionally resistant to hail damage—it carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This superior impact resistance may qualify your home for insurance premium discounts; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification. While Clyde Hill is not a hail-prone region compared to other areas, the Class 4 rating provides complete peace of mind and often appeals to insurers evaluating your roof's durability.
What's the warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and how long does it really last?
Interlock offers the Guardian Warranty—a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It is transferable once, giving the next homeowner 50 years of coverage from completion. The roofing-grade aluminum alloy and dual-sided Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM standards) are engineered for 40-50 year service life in most climates. In Clyde Hill's wet environment with 1761 mm annual rainfall, the non-porous aluminum and sealed interlocking design mean no deterioration from moisture exposure.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or shake?
Interlock metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance—no algae treatment, no crack sealing, no seasonal inspections. Asphalt shingles degrade from UV exposure and moisture (Clyde Hill receives nearly 1761 mm of rain annually) and typically need replacement every 15-20 years; wood shake splits and rots in freeze-thaw cycles, occurring about 58 times per year in King County. Aluminum is non-porous, so it resists algae, rot, and moisture damage automatically. The CALGreen-verified design eliminates the recurring maintenance cycle, which means you save thousands in labor and repairs over the roof's lifetime.
Is aluminum roofing actually more sustainable than asphalt shingles?
Yes—aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and breaks the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle. When asphalt shingles reach end-of-life after 15-20 years, they must be discarded; most end up in landfills and contribute to environmental waste. Interlock panels, manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, are recyclable at end-of-life without losing material quality. Over a 50-year period in Clyde Hill—experiencing roughly 2743 sunshine hours and 1761 mm of rainfall annually—a single metal roof installation eliminates the need for two or three asphalt re-roofing cycles and their associated waste and transportation emissions.
