I think we covered it all.

Review: May 7, 2021 Completion: March 13, 2021

We needed our roof removed and dog gates in the yard. We left the gates unlocked so they could clean up, but they left all the debris behind. They told us to leave our cars in the garage but they ended up with nails and debris all over them and in the garage. They ordered the supplies to do the roofing and stacked it up on the side of the house but then realized they hadn't ordered all supplies. The wait for those was 10 days. They should have had everything ordered ahead of time and brought it over when they first got to my home and then it would have been done in 3 days. That was the time they committed to. Instead it took 3 weeks and then had to come back a month later to clean up the downspouts.

Overall it was a good experience, it was a little rushed at first, but not due to pressure from them, but pressure from myself that I needed to get things moving. The sales reps I worked with were helpful. I submitted a deposit and then when I realized I needed to cancel the contract, within the timeframe contractually allowed, that is when I realized I needed to send a registered letter. Damon let me know that it wasn't strictly necessary, but given that was in the contract, and the contract was clear that it could not be altered, I would suggest that any future situations where someone needs to cancel, it should be advised that they follow the contract precisely or revise the contract to make it easier.

Review: August 8, 2018 Completion: July 9, 2018

Communication was lacking leading up to the start date of the project. We were told a vague estimate for the delivery date and another vague estimate for the start date. When those dates had come without materials or a start, I tried to call the office when I wasn't myself at work (not everyone can place personal calls at their workplace), but the specific and somewhat limited office hours made it difficult to actually reach anyone at Interlock. Ultimately I had to contact the salesman because I was not receiving updated info about delivery of materials and start date to the project. I finally got a phone call that told me the materials would be there tomorrow morning. I asked when the work would start then, and he said "tomorrow morning." That meant I had to quickly find daycare for my dog who goes crazy with strangers around the property and a more accurate timeline with longer notice would be have been much better. At the completion of the project we were asked to fill out a form saying we were completely satisfied with the work. The problem with that being we weren't given time to inspect the work properly, and I wouldn't know what to be looking for anyway. I would have felt much better knowing another person from the company separate from the install crew came out to inspect the work AND also to be given extra time to look over the roof before signing off on it. If we feel unsatisfied afterwards, I now worry that form we were presented with and told to sign before them crew could leave (adding an element of time pressure) will negate our rights in negotiation or court.

I think your pricing is prohibitive. There is a part of me that has buyers remorse. You could certainly make more sales if you decreased your bottom line. There was no flexibility... and that was frustrating.

Review: August 15, 2017 Completion: November 10, 2016

Topics discussed in sales call, such as the permanent anchor, should have been communicated to the installation crew. Vladimir was confused when I asked him about it. I'm unsure if he fulfilled that request. My upstairs level was noticeably warmer last winter and cooler this summer because of the new reflective and insulating roof.

Review: July 28, 2016 Completion: March 31, 2016

To all at Interlock Roofing, We have owned our home for 2 years, and have needed a new roof since the day we moved in. Both of us were hesitant to just get a new shingle roof as we are planning to stay in this home for many years to come. As we researched other roofing alternatives, we found information about Interlock Roofing and their metal roofs. The sales representatives were prompt and very kind, allowing us time to make our decision while giving us detailed information to help guide us in our decision making process. We had the pleasure of getting an aluminum roof installed by Interlock Roofing in March 2016. The roof immediately changed the look of our house, making it look much newer and brighter. We were getting compliments the day it was installed! The roofing crew was very polite and friendly, they even took time to play with our dog (who loves people with a passion). After the crew left, you wouldn’t have known we had the roof installed that very day, they did such a good job cleaning up! We have had our new roof for about 4 months now, and we could not be happier. Thank you Interlock Roofing!

Review: July 27, 2007 Completion: July 25, 2007

Thanks for a very positive roofing experience! Our new roof is so beautiful we’re thinking of charging a fee to all the gawking neighbors that stop by to admire it!!! This was fun, positive experience from start to finish. Our sales rep spent three hours at our home going over every possible detail with us. He was knowledgeable, friendly and answered all our questions. As you can see by the pictures we have a pretty basic roof. There was no tear off to do; still, our three installers were 80% done on the very first day! Everything was done and cleaned up to our satisfaction by the end of day two. Our installers were friendly, courteous and hard working. I watched them for a few minutes as they all worked like a finely tuned machine installing our roof in perfect rhythm. For us, Interlock meant that the third time was the charm. We’d tried to do business with two other companies. The first took a large amount of money as a down payment and gave absolutely no customer service for two months. We got our money back and started over. The second company gave an inaccurate bid. Needless to say, we entered into this contract with some trepidation. interlock is a fabulous company and we’d recommend them to anyone in the market for a new roof!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Shoreline

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Shoreline, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Shoreline.

Does metal roofing handle heavy snow and ice dams in Shoreline winters?

Yes—aluminum's smooth, interlocking surface actually sheds snow and ice better than asphalt. Shoreline averages about 37 cm of snow annually and roughly 31 freeze-thaw cycles per year, which is tough on shingles that trap moisture and crack. The four-way interlocking panels create a unified plane that resists ice dam formation at the eaves. Snow guards are available if you want to manage roof runoff, and the lightweight design means no risk of ice loads damaging your structure—aluminum panels weigh only 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft, so they won't stress rafters even under full snow cover.

Will a metal roof rust in Shoreline's wet climate?

No—aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. When aluminum is exposed to air, it forms a thin oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath; if that layer is scratched, it self-heals automatically. This is why Interlock panels are manufactured from roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) and why they come with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides—extra insurance in salt-air and wet regions. Steel roofing rusts and fails; aluminum grows tougher with age. Shoreline's 1,148 mm of annual rain and coastal moisture won't degrade your roof the way they would a ferrous metal.

Can a metal roof survive Shoreline's winter wind gusts?

Absolutely. Shoreline typically sees gusts up to 112 km/h, and the four-way interlocking panels resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—a warranty-backed claim. The overlapping design means there's no individual shingle for wind to lift; instead, panels lock together like a continuous armor. This is why Interlock earned ICC-ES ESR-1790 approval under both the International Building Code and International Residential Code: the engineering holds in real-world conditions. Coastal storms and winter squalls won't separate panels or create uplift points where water can sneak underneath.

What happens to a metal roof when hail hits?

Interlock's aluminum panels are rated UL 2218 Class 4 impact—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In King County, hail events are infrequent, but when they occur, a metal roof typically requires no repair; small dents are cosmetic and don't affect water-shedding or structural integrity. By contrast, asphalt shingles crack and crack open, creating leak paths. Some insurers offer discounts on policies when you install metal roofing because the claim history is so much lower. Request a quote from your agent—the impact rating and warranty can translate to real savings over the life of the roof.

Will a metal roof lower cooling costs in summer?

Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock offers profiles in finishes with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), both Cool Roof Rating Council rated. This means the roof reflects heat that asphalt absorbs, keeping interior temperatures lower and reducing AC runtime. Over Shoreline's 2,898 annual sunshine hours, those reflective properties compound: you're not fighting absorbed heat on warm days. The savings grow season after season—a concrete advantage in a climate with enough sun to matter but enough rain (1,148 mm per year) that you want the flexibility to stay cool and dry simultaneously.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Yes, when you measure over the true lifespan. Asphalt fails in 15–25 years in Shoreline's freeze-thaw and rainfall conditions (31 freeze-thaw cycles annually will crack shingles). A metal roof is a one-time install; the Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited, non-prorated for the original owner, and transferable—the next owner gets 50 years from completion. That's multiple asphalt tear-offs and landfill fees eliminated. Current financing: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation, so the decision is more affordable right now. Do the math: one permanent roof or three asphalt replacements plus labor, debris removal, and insurance claims? Metal wins.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal panels?

No structural reinforcement is needed. The Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile profile—which visually replicates a heavy tile roof—weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means your existing rafters and trusses see almost no additional load. In fact, installers often fasten directly over existing shingles, saving the cost of tear-off and disposal. Shoreline's building officials approve this because the engineering is proven: ICC-ES ESR-1790 confirms safety under IBC and IRC standards, and Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has installed thousands of roofs this way since 1997 without structural failure.

How long does a metal roof installation take?

Most residential installs complete in 2–5 days, depending on roof size and complexity. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and knows Shoreline's homes well. The process: inspect the existing roof, add underlayment and flashing, snap chalk lines for alignment, then interlocking panels install in rows—the four-way lock means each piece secures to its neighbors instantly, with no fasteners visible on the face. Installation over existing shingles (common in Shoreline because it avoids winter rain delays during tear-off) is faster and cleaner. You're not watching weeks of disruption; you're living under a new, finished roof before the season's next storm hits.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable aluminum—a material with no expiration date. When your roof's service life eventually ends (decades from now), the panels go to a scrap yard and become new products: aircraft fuselage, automotive parts, beverage cans. By contrast, asphalt shingles cannot be recycled and contribute billions of tons to landfills annually. Over Shoreline's 1,148 mm of annual rainfall and 31 freeze-thaw cycles, asphalt is replaced three to four times in 75 years. That's three to four tear-offs, three to four landfill loads, three to four times the carbon footprint of production and transport. Metal is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, meaning fewer replacement cycles, less waste, and a home that ages sustainably.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need in Shoreline?

Virtually none. Unlike asphalt shingles, which need sealing, patching, and regular inspection in freeze-thaw climates, or slate and wood shake that require constant cleaning and individual piece replacement, metal roofing requires only occasional gutter cleaning and an annual visual inspection. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish—applied to both sides of the panel—is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured). Shoreline's 1,148 mm of annual rain actually helps: it rinses mineral deposits and dust. No moss treatments, no algae pressure-washing, no re-nailing popped fasteners. The roof stays put while you focus on life, not maintenance.
