What our customers are saying:
To a person everybody in sales (Ross specifically) at Interlock Roofing was knowledgeable and professional. When we were evaluating our roofing alternatives, they took the time and energy to answer our many questions. Obviously, there are less expensive alternatives, and they did a good job explaining the differences between the various roofing and metal roofing options. Patrick and May were great at setting our expectations prior to installation. On the installation side I had a list of items for review prior to work being done. Tony the manager and Poval (sp) his crew lead made sure each of those items were addressed to our satisfaction. We have had the new roof for only 6 days and the roof looks amazing and our house looks much better. [modula id="139676"]
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
It’s such a relief to have a beautiful, reliable roof over our house now. Patrick, Tony, and the installation crew had their work cut out for them with our 1911 Craftsman’s steep roofs, several bump-outs, and other added details. We’re also nestled pretty tightly in between three other houses, so access points were somewhat limited. But they rose to the challenge admirably. Tearing off the old composite shingle took the better part of one day, but they managed to get new underlayment installed everywhere by the end of it. Unsurprisingly, they found some water damage along the way as well, so they had to replace a few boards, which set them back a little. But all in all, they finished within the week and we’re so pleased with the result. It rained hard the day after and all the old leaks we had stayed nice and dry. Our neighbors complimented us on the new roof as well.
Interlock Metal Roofing is a wonderful product. Michael did an awesome presentation and was very professional and thorough answering all of our questions. If you are in the market for a new roof give them a chance!
Mr. Ross and Interlock Industries, Kathy and I are very pleased with our new roof. During installation, your crew was able to adapt the project around our 100-year-old chimneys and finally completely seal us against leaks. The first summer of the new roof was worth the project’s price and exceeded our expectations for performance. We did not have the old problems of the attic area overheating. The attic fan barely comes on unless it is a very " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot day. But we are no longer feeling the heat on the third floor, where all the bedrooms are. Less heat means more comfortable nights and sleep. If anyone would like to see how the roof looks or performs, we would be happy to show the roof to people interested in the Interlock Industries product. Even the exterior of the house looks better, but surprisingly the roof does not look like it was covered with a metal material. The selected pattern both fits the look of the house and looks compatible with our neighborhood houses. We care very pleased with the roof and the guarantee that accompanies the roof.
Customer Satisfaction 5/5 Terrific installation. Workers knew their craft and did an excellent job!
Customer Satisfaction 5/5 Good workers. I would retain these people!
Dear Interlock Roofing: Thank you for your time and kindness in working with us. The time it took to put on the roof was efficient and quickly done. Your workers were fast and on the job. They took a couple days to do both the roof of our house and the roof of our second garage. This Interlock Metal Roofing was a great investment on our house. We get plenty of compliments from our neighbors telling us how nice our roof looks. The quality of the roof is also great. It looks very durable and reliable when it comes to heavy rains and winds. We also like the style of the roof and how it goes nicely with our house and surroundings. It was nice working with your company and we hope the best for Interlock Roofing in the future.
I want to express my appreciation for your company's excellent response to our recent need for replacement of deteriorating closure material on our metal roof installed about four years ago. It is a pleasure to deal with people whose first priority is customer satisfaction. I'd like to particularly thank Steven Jasper, the installer responsible for the work. He was competent, efficient and thorough. It was a large job and particularly difficult because of its height off the ground as well as the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot weather. I also want to thank Wendy Willans of your customer service department who arranged for the work effectively and promptly. I will not hesitate to recommend your company to anyone interested in a high quality metal roofing installation by people eager to stand behind their products and workmanship.
When my husband Richard said he wanted to put a metal roof on this 1929 English Tudor house, I thought he had gone around the bend, maybe several bends. After seeing the pictures and hearing about the features, I started to become a convert. Now that the job is down, I know that we made the right decision for several reasons. First, the black Interlock shingles look so appropriate on this house. In certain lights it even appears to look like " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate. Many neighbors and friends have commented on how very attractive it looks, Secondly, the workmen did such a professional job. They were meticulous at each step of the process and, we are confident, that their craftsmanship was excellent. Each day that they were here they worked diligently and conscientiously making sure that every step of their work was done to the highest expectations. In addition, they were quiet and tried not to interrupt our daily routine. Third, we are most pleased about all the high quality features of the product: the durability, the appearance, and the fact that it is maintenance free. Thank you for making the excellent product.
To Ross Peterson and all the fine folks at Interlock Roofing! Just want to say how pleased I am with my new roof. I have shown it off to a lot of people in and around my neighborhood. I have recommended 6 or 7 people to give Ross a call if they need a new roof. They say they will; I hope they do. But I am very pleased with the roof and the installation job that was done.
We are writing to thank you for the fine job that was done on our roof installation. Before we talked to your company at the fair, we were confused and indecisive on the products available. After we talked to Bill Gray at our home, we decided that Interlock was the roofing for us. From our meeting with your representative to the finish of the installation of the roof took less than a month. That included the wait for the permission from the Homeowners Association and financing through your company. The installation team that worked on our home was courteous, efficient, pleasant and hard working. Everything was kept neat And clean as they worked. We love the look of the roof and can't stop looking at it whenever we go outside. It improves the look of the home.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Mercer Island
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Mercer Island, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Mercer Island.
How does a metal roof handle Mercer Island's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because of their smooth, hard surface and the four-way interlocking panel design that prevents water infiltration. With about 120 cm of snow annually in your area and 58 freeze-thaw days per year, you need a roof that won't trap moisture or degrade from constant cycling. Interlock aluminum panels are non-porous—they don't absorb water that expands when frozen—and the panels' strength means they don't sag under snow load like asphalt can, reducing ice-dam formation. Many owners in snowy King County regions install snow guards for safety; the metal surface itself won't deteriorate from the thaw-refreeze cycle that splits wood shingles or causes asphalt cupping.
Will freeze-thaw cycling damage an aluminum roof over time?
No—aluminum is naturally immune to freeze-thaw damage because it doesn't absorb water or expand when frozen. Your region experiences roughly 58 freeze-thaw days annually, plus about 194 cm of snow, conditions that wreak havoc on materials like wood, concrete tile, and asphalt. Asphalt shingles absorb moisture, crack when frozen, and curl; wood shakes split; clay tile fractures. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy panels contain no iron and cannot rust, and their oxide layer self-heals when scratched. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against fading and chalking under ASTM D4214 standards, protects the substrate through thousands of freeze-thaw cycles without degradation.
With 1,761 mm of rain per year, how does Interlock keep water out?
The four-way interlocking seams create a continuous waterproof barrier that sheds water faster than rainfall arrives. Your area receives about 1,761 mm of rain annually—roughly 35% more than Seattle's average—so panel overlap and sealing matter enormously. Each Interlock panel locks to its neighbors on all four edges, eliminating the vertical seam leaks common in standing-seam roofs and the gradual fill-and-overflow cycles that degrade asphalt. Water runs off the profile surface (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Tile, or Standing Seam) into the gutter system; nothing pools or backs up under the panels. When installed to ICC-ES ESR-1790 specification over solid deck and underlayment, the system performs identically to asphalt in rain—the metal itself is inert and impervious, and the interlocking geometry handles the region's consistent wet climate reliably.
Can an aluminum roof withstand Mercer Island's winter wind gusts?
Yes—Interlock is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, well above your region's typical maximum gust speeds of about 128 km/h. The four-way interlocking panel system transfers wind load across the entire roof plane rather than loading individual fasteners, distributing force the way a wooden ship's hull distributes stress. King County's winter storms bring sustained winds and sudden gusts; asphalt shingles begin to lift and lose adhesive above 60 mph, and standing-seam roofs with fewer connection points can fail if fasteners corrode or loosen. Interlock's continuous locking design and the aluminum's inherent strength mean your roof won't flutter, rattle, or lose panels in the gusts your climate regularly produces. The warranty even applies to properly installed systems in high-wind zones.
Does an aluminum metal roof help with hail damage and insurance?
Interlock achieves the highest hail impact rating available—UL 2218 Class 4—and is warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, a claim few roofing materials can make. While Mercer Island's climate records don't indicate frequent hail, the UL 2218 Class 4 rating means this roof outperforms in rare severe weather, and many insurers reward non-combustible, impact-resistant materials with premium discounts. Asphalt shingles dent and split under moderate impact; wood shakes bruise and allow water infiltration; tile cracks. Aluminum dents slightly but does not perforate, crack, or lose its weather seal. Contact your homeowner's insurance agent about potential discounts for a Class 4-rated roof; the lower risk profile often translates to lower premiums over the roof's 50+ year life, offsetting the upfront cost difference.
Why is aluminum better than steel for a roof in a rainy, wet climate?
Aluminum roofs cannot rust because aluminum contains no iron—rust requires iron and oxygen. If you've considered steel metal roofing, understand that steel rusts aggressively in Mercer Island's marine-influenced climate and high rainfall (1,761 mm annually). Steel requires continuous paint maintenance; once the coating fails, rust spreads rapidly. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy per ASTM B209, which forms a transparent oxide layer that self-heals when scratched. The aluminum is coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (both sides) for coastal protection, warranted 30 years. Even in salt-air regions far harsher than King County, Interlock has performed flawlessly since 1998—no rust, no oxide staining, no structural compromise. Aluminum's immunity to corrosion is not a marketing claim; it's fundamental chemistry that has been verified across decades and thousands of installations.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt?
Interlock requires virtually no maintenance—no roof treatments, no resealing, no algae or moss cleaning, no fastener tightening. Asphalt requires annual inspection for loose shingles, replaces deteriorated sealant around vents every 5-7 years, and often needs chemical cleaning in moist climates like yours (1,761 mm rain, 2,743 sunshine hours). Wood shakes demand annual sealing or staining, mold remediation, and individual shake replacement. The Alunar coating is rated for 30 years against fading and chalking under ASTM D4214 and D2244 standards; light surface dust washes away with normal rain. Gutters need cleaning twice yearly (as with any roof), but the aluminum itself is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Over a 50-year lifespan, the time and cost savings—no repairs, no treatments, no premature replacement—are substantial and often eclipse the initial material cost difference.
Is an Interlock metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of the roof?
When measured over the roof's lifespan, aluminum is the most economical roofing material available today. Asphalt costs $5,000–$12,000 installed and lasts 15–20 years; you'll replace it 2–3 times in 50 years. Interlock costs more upfront but comes with The Guardian—a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you (and one transfer to the next owner for 50 years total), covers rusting, rotting, cracking, curling, and impact loss, and requires virtually no maintenance. No fastener replacement, no sealing, no tear-off disposal. Wood shake requires constant upkeep; tile is fragile and expensive to repair. Current financing through Spring 2027 offers no payments and no interest, or 10% off installation—this makes the per-year cost competitive with asphalt while eliminating replacement cycles. Most homeowners find that after the first 20 years (one asphalt replacement cycle), the metal roof has already paid for itself in avoided labor, replacement, and disposal costs.
Can an existing roof support a metal roof, or do I need structural reinforcement?
In nearly all cases, no structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile, which visually replicates heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft and is roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. Your home's framing was designed for asphalt shingles (1.5–2.5 lb/sq ft) or heavier materials; aluminum is a fraction of that load. The Shake profile installs at 0.58 lb/sq ft, the Slate at lighter weights still. Most homes can be re-roofed with Interlock directly over the existing asphalt roof without adding any structural support—the savings in labor and demolition costs are significant. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms the system's suitability for retrofit installations. A local installer can assess your specific roof framing, but the vast majority of Mercer Island homes can upgrade to metal with zero structural work, making the transition faster and more affordable than traditional tile or slate.
