Review: January 6, 2018

The reason I won't be using Interlock is that at my age and the cost of a new Interlock roof system I can't justify putting on a $30K+ roof when I have other home priorities. If I was 20 years younger and still working I wouldn't hesitate putting an Interlock roof system on.

1. A more professional introductory meeting with the start up install that includes either a salesman or representative. This would include a complete overview of the install, ie.. installer introductions, expectations, timeline, general support to the homeowner. 2. FLASHING END CAP NEEDS TO BE DEVELOPED. I'm willing to discuss further with photos if needed. Would appreciate contact from an influential representative.

I did not like the sales technique. I didn't like how he showed us the pros and cons. I didn't want the huge sales pitch. The visit was long and tedious. Don't let anyone else fall through the cracks either.

Review: May 28, 2007 Completion: May 5, 2007

I recently had an Interlock roof system installed on my home the last week of April 2007. I am extremely pleased with my new roof. It looks awesome. The installers had quite a challenge working around the weather that week. They were only off by about 3 hours from the time they said they would finish. That in itself is remarkable considering the heavy rains they had to contend with. They were hard workers and very polite. They cleaned up their industrial mess as well as some of my own winter mess. My experience with Interlock Industries from the initial phone call, to the sales representative as well as the installers was like working with old friends. I would recommend Interlock Industries and their products to anyone without hesitation. I do not make referrals often, because I feel my word of recommendation is a sacred trust. I rate my experience A+ with Interlock. I know I am going to enjoy my new roof for a long time.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Cromwell

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Cromwell, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Cromwell.

Does metal roofing handle heavy snow and ice buildup better than asphalt in Cromwell?

Metal roofing sheds snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents water from refreezing at the edges—a critical advantage in Pierce County, where you average about 33 cm of snow yearly and experience roughly 21 freeze-thaw days per year. The four-way interlocking panels are engineered to shed rather than trap moisture, and optional snow guards let you control release strategically. Asphalt's granulated surface, by contrast, holds moisture and ice, creating dams that back water under shingles. Aluminum's self-healing oxide layer also resists the repeated wet-dry cycles that degrade asphalt in your freeze-thaw environment.

Why don't aluminum metal roofs rust like steel ones, and does that matter in Cromwell's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopic oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath and self-heals when scratched. In Cromwell's wet environment, with nearly 1280 mm of annual rainfall, this immunity to rust is a significant advantage. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires constant paint and sealant maintenance to prevent rust staining and structural failure. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy is paired with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides, backed by a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading—giving your roof built-in durability against the persistent moisture and weather your region experiences.

Can a metal roof stand up to Cromwell's wind gusts?

Yes—Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, well above Pierce County's typical gusts of about 101 km/h (63 mph). The four-way interlocking panel design is the key: each panel locks to its neighbors on all four edges, distributing wind load across the entire roof system rather than relying on fasteners alone. This engineered overlap prevents uplift and panel separation during storms. The rigid aluminum construction doesn't flex or degrade like asphalt in wind cycles, and the panels won't curl or cup the way aged shingles do. For a region where wind gusts regularly exceed 80 km/h, this structural integrity means fewer repairs and longer peace of mind.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt over the long run?

Metal roofing is typically a higher upfront investment than asphalt, but over the roof's lifetime it's usually the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt shingles last 15-25 years in your climate's freeze-thaw cycles and require regular maintenance, sealing, and moss removal in Cromwell's 1280 mm of annual rain. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, splitting, cracking, curling, and impact loss—plus a one-time transfer to the next owner for 50 years from completion. That durability means no tear-off costs, no landfill disposal, and no replacement labor in 30-40 years. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, making the comparison even stronger.

Does a metal roof actually reduce cooling costs?

energy-efficient Interlock colors with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity 0.84 reflect solar heat that asphalt absorbs and transfers into your attic. In Cromwell's temperate climate with about 2931 sunshine hours annually, this reflectance matters most on clear summer days when your AC works hardest. Metal roofing won't make a dramatic difference in a region where mean temperature is only 11.3°C, but it does reduce peak cooling load and attic heat buildup without losing winter solar gains. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the performance. Over time, the energy savings compound—asphalt gradually darkens with age and loses reflectance, while your metal roof's finish is backed by a 30-year warranty against fading.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need in Cromwell's wet climate?

Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance beyond occasional gutter cleaning—no moss treatment, no resealing, no shingle replacement. In Cromwell's wet environment with nearly 1280 mm of rain and frequent freeze-thaw cycles, asphalt and wood shingles demand regular attention: moss and mildew grow in the damp Pacific Northwest, granules wash away, and freeze-thaw cycles lift and crack shingles. Interlock's aluminum panels are CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, and the hard, smooth surface sheds moisture that would otherwise settle and promote decay. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists the fungal and algae growth that plague softer roofing materials in your region. No sealants to reapply, no gaps to reseal—just a roof that stays intact while everything else deteriorates around it.

Do I need to reinforce my house structure for a metal roof?

No—aluminum's light weight means no structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile installs at only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than real tile or concrete, so it exerts minimal additional load on your framing. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles are even lighter. This weight advantage is especially valuable if you're installing over an existing roof, since you avoid the labor and cost of tearing off asphalt shingles first. Many homes in Cromwell can accept a new metal roof directly over the old one, reducing installation time and landfill waste. The four-way interlocking panel system distributes loads evenly, and ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms compliance with IBC/IRC code requirements—your builder or inspector will have no concerns.

Is metal roofing Class A fire-rated, and why does that matter?

Yes—Interlock metal roofing is available in Class A fire classification because aluminum is non-combustible. The metal itself will not ignite, burn, or spread flame, making it one of the safest roofing choices in wildfire-adjacent regions or for homeowners who prioritize fire safety. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are combustible and contribute to fire spread in certain conditions. While Pierce County's climate is temperate rather than arid, Class A rating appeals to insurers and buyers alike, potentially lowering premiums and increasing resale appeal. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms the fire performance under IBC/IRC standards. Combined with aluminum's resistance to the 21 annual freeze-thaw cycles in Cromwell—which can crack and weaken shingles over time—a non-combustible, durable roof offers peace of mind on multiple fronts.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Cromwell, and how long have they been in business?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. serves Pierce County and the surrounding region, with over 25 years of installation experience—they've been operating since 1997 as a dedicated regional partner. The parent company, Interlock, has manufactured roofing panels in Delta, BC, since 1998, so your installer has direct access to the product engineers and warranty support behind every roof. Local experience matters in Cromwell's wet climate: a regional installer understands freeze-thaw challenges, proper drainage in 1280 mm of rain, wind-gust exposure, and how to avoid the moss and moisture problems that plague poorly installed roofs. They can advise on profile selection (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, or Tile) matched to your home's style and your property's specific exposure. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off—ask about it when you request a site visit.

What's the installation timeline for a metal roof, and can it go over my old shingles?

Installation timeline typically ranges from 2-5 business days depending on roof complexity and weather—Cromwell's average of about 2931 sunshine hours per year usually allows good installation windows. The major advantage: aluminum's light weight means you can usually install directly over existing asphalt shingles without removal, saving labor cost and eliminating the tear-off debris. This also accelerates the project since roofers don't spend time stripping and disposing of old material. New underlayment and flashing are installed to spec, then the four-way interlocking panels attach mechanically—no sealants needed for the panel joints, only at perimeter flashings. Your installer will coordinate access, protect landscaping, and schedule around Cromwell's typical weather patterns. Ice and snow are avoided when possible, but the roof's engineered durability means it performs flawlessly in wet conditions once complete.
