Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Bee, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
Better communication regarding a more specific breakdown of who was supplying/installing roof underlayment materials.
The reason I won't be using Interlock is that at my age and the cost of a new Interlock roof system I can't justify putting on a $30K+ roof when I have other home priorities. If I was 20 years younger and still working I wouldn't hesitate putting an Interlock roof system on.
I have written this down and sent it to the company 2 days ago.
I'm giving this one a 3 because of the cost.
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
While the roof has the potential to be beautiful and live up to its warrantied years, there are issues that were not corrected. I had a general contractor doing a remodel so they were the primary communicator and overseer of the project. They had their usual companies they use for roofing but I liked the Interlock roof so they went through the steps to get things done through them. I have never been more sorry. My father spent his entire career in the roofing industry…first as a roofer, then sales, then as an inspector. I sent pictures to him of issues to make sure I wasn’t just being finicky and he would wend back reasons why things needed to be corrected. As I tried to say the first thing to Patrick when he finally came out to my house, he scoffed and walked off. I had already gone over everything with my contractor so I left him to go over the rest as I was not going to be treated as such at my home. It didn’t go any better. He swore at my contractor and said none of these things were happening. Then sped off. We have had no resolution and given Interlock is proprietary, we can’t even go to another company to get these items fixed.
This was a disappointing disaster for me. My project was broken in two phases because of the cost. I paid the 88k dollars to complete phase one which is the back side of my home. During the install we had water running into 4 different rooms and they couldn’t get it to stop, at one point he shrugged his shoulders and said I don’t know. There needs to be a project manager onsite weekly checking in and around for a close out walk through.
Ross was a good guy, I wish I could do more business with him in the future.
The one thing that I didn't like was that I felt pressured to buy on the spot. We would rather collect facts from vendors to consider our chooses. We would have never excepted that even if the price had been good because of the pressure to buy.
It was a great experience, but we decided to go with another company.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Bee
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Bee, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Bee.
Will a metal roof handle Bee's winter snow and ice buildup?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow effectively because the smooth, hard surface offers no grip for ice dams—unlike asphalt shingles that trap moisture during Bee's 46 annual freeze-thaw cycles. With about 30 cm of snow per year and winter gusts reaching 98 km/h, the lightweight design (0.41 lb/sq ft for Slate) means zero structural risk even under peak load, and the panels stay secure thanks to 120 mph wind warranty coverage. Metal roofing is the preferred choice in snow zones because it eliminates the leak risk that comes from standing ice.
Can aluminum roofing rust in the Pacific Northwest's wet climate?
No—aluminum physically cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it develops a thin oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, making it naturally corrosion-resistant in Bee's 1195 mm annual rainfall. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel and carries a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, providing a second barrier against moisture. This dual protection is why Interlock panels perform equally well in coastal salt-air environments and inland high-rain zones like Pierce County.
How does metal roofing handle freeze-thaw damage that cracks other materials?
Aluminum's crystalline structure resists the cracking and splitting that plague asphalt, wood, and ceramic tile during freeze-thaw cycling. Bee experiences roughly 46 freeze-thaw days annually, and the Guardian Warranty explicitly covers cracking and splitting for the original owner for life—non-prorated. The material's flexibility allows it to contract and expand without fracture, while the absence of porous absorption (unlike wood shake or clay tile) prevents water from entering cracks and re-freezing. That's why Interlock has performed in climates from coastal British Columbia to Antarctic research stations since 1998.
Is a metal roof secure in Pierce County's wind gusts?
Completely. Interlock's four-way interlocking design is engineered to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, and Bee's peak gusts average 98 km/h (about 61 mph)—well within design limits. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms code compliance under IBC/IRC standards, including wind load requirements. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing force across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. In 26 years of service in the Pacific Northwest, the system has proven resilient through routine winter and spring windstorms.
With 1200 mm of rain annually in Bee, how does metal roofing prevent leaks?
The four-way interlocking seams shed water continuously because each panel overlaps its neighbors on all sides, and water flows downslope with no flat pockets where it can pool or seep. Bee's average 1195 mm rain per year requires a roof system with zero standing water—metal's smooth, hard surface and interlocking geometry eliminate the gaps and expansion cracks where asphalt and wood fail. The panels can be installed over your existing roof, and proper underlayment prevents any water that reaches the deck from sitting. The Guardian Warranty covers leakage for life, reflecting the engineering confidence behind the design.
Do I need to reinforce my house to support a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the Mediterranean Tile—which replicates 5 cm of ceramic or concrete—weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than the material it imitates. This means it installs directly over existing asphalt, wood, or even older tile roofs without adding load. Bee's typical daily-max winds of 14 km/h and standard residential framing easily handle the weight. The lightweight design also reduces installation cost and logistics, since fewer workers and equipment are needed to handle materials safely.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Over 40+ years, metal roofing costs significantly less than the asphalt cycle. Asphalt requires replacement every 15–20 years in climates like Bee's (1195 mm rain, 46 freeze-thaw days annually)—meaning 2–3 tear-offs, landfill fees, and reinstallation labor in a single homeowner's tenure. The Guardian Warranty provides a non-prorated lifetime limited material warranty to the original owner and a one-time transferable 50-year term to the next owner, so you buy one roof. Current financing through Interlock (PNW) Inc. offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off, reducing upfront cost. Total cost of ownership strongly favors metal when you account for landfill avoidance, zero maintenance repairs, and durability.
What maintenance does a metal roof need in the Pacific Northwest?
Virtually none. Unlike asphalt shingles (which degrade under UV and weathering), wood shake (which rots and splits), or ceramic tile (which cracks and requires mortar repair), aluminum with Alunar fluorocarbon finish simply sheds debris and water. Bee's 2943 annual sunshine hours means UV exposure is moderate, and the 30-year coating warranty ensures color and gloss retention without touch-ups. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance requirements compared to traditional roofing. Occasional gutter cleaning and inspection are all that's needed—no algae treatments, no fastener replacement, no structural repairs from ice dams or wood decay.
Can a metal roof help lower cooling costs even in Bee's cool climate?
Yes. energy-efficient colors like Aged Copper Penny achieve solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning the roof reflects heat rather than absorbing it like asphalt does. Bee receives about 2943 sunshine hours per year, and even moderate solar gain matters in spring and early fall when heating is off but the sun is strong. The cool-roof effect reduces peak interior temperatures, cutting air-conditioning runtime and load. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms measurable performance. Over a roof's lifetime, this reflective advantage compounds, particularly as asphalt absorbs more heat with age while aluminum's coating-protected surface maintains reflectance.
Does Interlock Metal Roofing serve the Bee area?
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served Pierce County and the broader Pacific Northwest since 1997—26 years of experience installing aluminum roofing in conditions identical to Bee's. The company manufactures its panels in Delta, BC, just 170 km north, ensuring supply reliability and regional expertise in freeze-thaw, high rainfall, and wind-load design. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, available exclusively through the local installer. From material selection and installation to warranty service, you're working with a team that understands your climate and stands behind their work.
