Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for DuPont, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
Better communication regarding a more specific breakdown of who was supplying/installing roof underlayment materials.
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
While the roof has the potential to be beautiful and live up to its warrantied years, there are issues that were not corrected. I had a general contractor doing a remodel so they were the primary communicator and overseer of the project. They had their usual companies they use for roofing but I liked the Interlock roof so they went through the steps to get things done through them. I have never been more sorry. My father spent his entire career in the roofing industry…first as a roofer, then sales, then as an inspector. I sent pictures to him of issues to make sure I wasn’t just being finicky and he would wend back reasons why things needed to be corrected. As I tried to say the first thing to Patrick when he finally came out to my house, he scoffed and walked off. I had already gone over everything with my contractor so I left him to go over the rest as I was not going to be treated as such at my home. It didn’t go any better. He swore at my contractor and said none of these things were happening. Then sped off. We have had no resolution and given Interlock is proprietary, we can’t even go to another company to get these items fixed.
This was a disappointing disaster for me. My project was broken in two phases because of the cost. I paid the 88k dollars to complete phase one which is the back side of my home. During the install we had water running into 4 different rooms and they couldn’t get it to stop, at one point he shrugged his shoulders and said I don’t know. There needs to be a project manager onsite weekly checking in and around for a close out walk through.
Ross was a good guy, I wish I could do more business with him in the future.
The one thing that I didn't like was that I felt pressured to buy on the spot. We would rather collect facts from vendors to consider our chooses. We would have never excepted that even if the price had been good because of the pressure to buy.
It was a great experience, but we decided to go with another company.
I believe it is a good product but it is too expensive.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in DuPont
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in DuPont, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in DuPont.
Will a metal roof handle DuPont's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or failing?
Yes—aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, and it expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or splitting across DuPont's roughly 46 annual freeze-thaw days. Unlike wood shakes or slate, which can split under repeated freezing, the 3105-H24 aluminum alloy used in Interlock panels maintains its integrity through your region's temperature swings. The 30-year Alunar coating, warranted against cracking and curling, ensures the roof's performance through decades of Pierce County's typical winter cycles, with about 30 cm of snow and frequent thaw periods.
How does a metal roof perform with DuPont's annual snowfall and ice buildup?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because their smooth, hard surface prevents ice dams from forming and holding meltwater against your home. With DuPont averaging about 30 cm of snow annually and typical wind gusts reaching 98 km/h, Interlock's four-way interlocking panels stay secure while the metal's thermal conductivity allows heat to move through, reducing ice dam risk. Snow guards can be added if desired, and the lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means snow load never requires structural reinforcement—a significant advantage over concrete tile.
Are interlocking metal panels strong enough to resist DuPont's wind gusts?
Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, far exceeding DuPont's typical daily-max winds of about 14 km/h and gusts to 98 km/h. The four-way interlocking design means each panel is secured to its neighbors and the deck, creating a unified system rather than individual shingles that can lift or separate. This approach has proven reliable across coastal British Columbia and throughout the Pacific Northwest—regions that experience similar wind patterns and moisture to Pierce County.
Can aluminum roofing rust or corrode in a wet climate like DuPont?
No—aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; it forms a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, giving it natural corrosion resistance even in wet climates. DuPont's 1,195 mm of annual rainfall and frequent moisture would quickly rust steel roofing, but 3105-H24 aluminum alloy used in Interlock panels thrives in these conditions. The 70% PVDF Alunar coating is applied to both sides of every panel (extra protection against salt air and moisture), and it's warranted 30 years against chalking and fading—evidence of real-world durability in the Pacific Northwest's harshest weather.
How long will an Interlock metal roof last, and what does the warranty cover?
Interlock roofs typically last 50+ years—many installations from 1998 still perform without replacement—backed by The Guardian, a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty is one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion, a powerful advantage if you ever sell. Combined with DuPont's moderate climate (about 2,943 sunshine hours yearly, which doesn't degrade aluminum like high-UV deserts), this roof becomes the last one your home will ever need.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Yes—while metal costs more initially, it eliminates the cycle of asphalt tear-offs every 15–20 years. Over 50 years, asphalt typically requires 2–3 replacements plus disposal costs; Interlock requires no replacement and is ~95% recyclable at end-of-life. The current regional promotion offers either no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, making the long-term math even clearer. Add energy savings from energy-efficient colors (up to 0.55 solar reflectance), reduced maintenance, and transferable warranty equity, and the lifetime value easily surpasses asphalt—you're buying your last roof.
Will a metal roof lower my cooling costs in the warmer months?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it like asphalt, with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reducing heat transfer into your home. DuPont receives about 2,943 sunshine hours yearly; during sunny periods and warmer months, this reflectance cuts cooling load and costs. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the performance data. While DuPont's moderate climate (mean 10.9°C) means cooling savings are modest compared to hot regions, every reduction in air-conditioning use lowers your utility bill and carbon footprint without sacrificing durability.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure to support a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed—Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which mimics heavy ceramic or concrete tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft and is roughly 96% lighter than real tile, so it installs directly over your existing roof in most cases. This lightweight advantage means you avoid costly framing upgrades while gaining tile's architectural beauty. Your home's structure handles Interlock panels with the same ease as standard asphalt shingles, yet you get 50+ years of life instead of 15–20.
Who installs Interlock roofing in DuPont, and how experienced are they?
Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the Pierce County region since 1997—nearly three decades of experience with Pacific Northwest weather, including DuPont's 1,195 mm annual rainfall, 30 cm snow, and 46 freeze-thaw days. The installer understands local building codes (ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance), optimal flashing techniques for wet climates, and the specific wind and moisture challenges of this area. Local service means faster response times, warranty support from someone who knows your home's climate, and installation by crews who've proven themselves across hundreds of roofs in conditions identical to yours.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Interlock metal roofs require virtually no maintenance—no annual inspections, no algae or moss treatment, no shingle replacement, no gutter protection systems. Unlike asphalt (which degrades and sheds granules), wood shakes (which split and rot in DuPont's 1,195 mm annual rainfall), or clay tile (which cracks in freeze-thaw cycles), aluminum resists all these failure modes. After 50+ years, your roof will look essentially unchanged, thanks to the 30-year Alunar coating warranty against fading. You'll spend the money you'd normally budget for roof maintenance on things that matter to you, with zero worry about leaks or decay.
