Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Grays River, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Grays River
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Grays River, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Grays River.
Does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice in Wahkiakum County winters?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to support snow loads without the ice-dam problems that plague asphalt. With Grays River averaging 49 cm of snow annually and about 34 freeze-thaw cycles per year, the smooth, hard surface naturally sheds meltwater and resists ice buildup. Snow guards are available if you want to control slide patterns. The panels' lightweight design (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile) means no structural reinforcement needed, unlike slate or concrete tile, yet they perform identically for load capacity.
Will a metal roof leak in Grays River's wet climate?
No—Interlock panels shed water by design. Grays River receives approximately 1578 mm of rain annually, and the four-way interlocking system creates a waterproof barrier when installed to spec over solid deck and underlayment. The interlocking seams are mechanically fastened, not glued, so they remain watertight through thousands of rain cycles. Installation over your existing roof (if sound) eliminates exposure during the install process, further reducing leak risk. ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance confirms water management under IBC/IRC standards.
Can a metal roof rust in a wet, coastal climate like Grays River?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the metal's protective oxide layer actually self-heals when scratched. This matters in Wahkiakum County's salt-influenced maritime air and frequent moisture. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209) with a Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires constant rust vigilance. After 27 years of installations from coastal homes to Antarctic stations, Interlock panels show no corrosion—only the aesthetic patina of weathered aluminum.
Does hail damage metal roofs, and can I get an insurance discount?
Interlock metal roofs are extraordinarily hail-resistant, rated UL 2218 Class 4 (the highest impact rating available). The warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts on metal roofing. When you contact your agent, reference the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and the Guardian lifetime warranty. Grays River's wind gusts reach 103 km/h and weather patterns can produce severe spring storms, so impact resilience protects both your home and your long-term insurance costs.
Is metal roofing more expensive than asphalt when you factor in lifespan?
Metal roofing costs more upfront but eliminates the asphalt cycle—no tear-offs, no re-roofing every 15–20 years. Over 50+ years, the total cost of ownership is substantially lower. Interlock's Guardian warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, then transferable for 50 years to the next owner. With Grays River's 1578 mm annual rainfall and 49 cm snow, asphalt degrades faster from moisture and UV cycling than in drier regions. The current regional promotion offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, making the transition more affordable now.
What maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shake?
Metal roofs require minimal maintenance. Interlock aluminum panels shed debris naturally and do not require roof washing, algae treatment, or moss removal like asphalt, wood shake, or cedar shingle roofs do—especially in Grays River's moist 2757 annual sunshine hours and frequent rainfall. No nail pops, no curling, no rot or splitting to monitor. The 30-year Alunar® coating is warranted against chalking and fading (measured to ASTM D4214 / D2244 standards), and the aluminum's self-healing oxide layer resists scratches. Essentially, you install it and stop worrying about your roof.
Can my home's structure support a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, weighs approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Even the Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft is negligible compared to slate or ceramic. Most homes can support metal roofing over an existing asphalt roof with zero additional framing. This lightweight advantage means you install over your current roof in most cases, saving on tear-off labor and landfill costs. The panels' aluminum construction (ASTM B209) delivers strength and durability without the dead load penalty of traditional materials.
Will a metal roof hold up to Grays River's winter and spring gusts?
Yes—Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. Grays River's typical gusts reach 103 km/h, well within the panels' performance envelope. The four-way interlocking design creates mechanical strength at every seam; fasteners lock panels together so uplift forces are distributed across the roof system rather than concentrated at individual attachment points. The design has been field-proven in coastal regions where sustained winds and rapid pressure changes are common. ICC-ES ESR-1790 confirms compliance with wind-load requirements in the IBC/IRC.
Is a metal roof fireproof or fire-rated?
Interlock metal roofing is non-combustible and available in Class A fire-rated profiles. Aluminum cannot ignite or contribute to flame spread. This matters in any region prone to wildfires or where fire-safety codes are tightening. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation (reissued 2025) confirms compliance with IBC/IRC fire classifications, and Interlock's profiles achieve Class A status without additives or treatments. Grays River's 2757 annual sunshine hours and regular moisture mean wildfire risk is lower than inland regions, but the non-combustible designation provides additional peace of mind and may lower your homeowners insurance in the future.
How long does metal roof installation take, and can it go over my existing roof?
Installation typically takes 1–3 days depending on roof complexity. Yes, Interlock panels install over most existing asphalt roofs if the deck is sound and well-fastened. This approach eliminates tear-off labor, dumpster costs, and weather exposure during installation—a significant advantage in Grays River's average 1578 mm annual rainfall. Your installer will inspect the existing deck, add underlayment and flashing where needed, and mechanically fasten the panels. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and knows local conditions and building departments. Expect a site visit, written estimate, and scheduling within 1–2 weeks for most jobs.
