Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Harrington Place, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
We had an excellent experience the first time with Interlock so used them again when we moved to our new home. I can’t sing praises any higher. Mike Rasmussen sold us the first time and we were lucky to have him this time as well. May and Patrick are wonderful to work with. Gregory, our installler, worked hard to get the job done single handedly when his partner had a family emergency and couldn’t continue. Our roof is gorgeous and the neighbors are slowing to look. I would recommend Interlock any time and every time! My pics don’t do it justice.
We have been enjoying our Interlock roof for several months. The planning, purchasing, and installation experience was everything we expected it to be – superb. The original shingles, paper, and staples were removed. The two installers did these tasks without making a mess in the surrounding garden or the patio. A new waterproof barrier was laid out and the new aluminum shingles were installed. To my pleasant surprise, each one was nailed in with 2 aluminum nails. This gives me confidence that this roof is made to last and is an excellent value for money. The installers worked for 3 consecutive days until the entire roof was done. Site cleanup was done at the end of each day. Some days the 2 installers worked beyond “regular” hours even though it must have been uncomfortable as these were unusually hot days for this area. Now, our house is much cooler in the summer and warmer in the colder weather. We have found it be noisier in heavy rain, but not significantly so. I quite like feeling dry, warm and cozy inside while it is raging outside – we live on a mountain, exposed to the elements. Last year I would go out and count how many shingles had been blown off by the high winds. I don’t need to do that anymore. Our neighbors have given us many compliments regarding our new roof – we are the envy of our small community. Finally, I would recommend Interlock to anyone considering a roof that lasts for many years. The product is outstanding.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Harrington Place
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Harrington Place, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Harrington Place.
How does a metal roof handle Harrington Place's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, hard surface doesn't trap moisture the way porous shingles do. With about 120 cm of snow annually and roughly 22 freeze-thaw days per year in Cowlitz County, this matters: ice dams form when melted snow refreezes at the eaves, but the thermal properties of aluminum minimize that risk. The four-way interlocking Interlock panels are warranted to 120 mph wind, so heavy snow loads won't compromise the seal, and optional snow guards prevent dangerous slides while allowing safe drainage.
Why won't my aluminum metal roof rust like older steel roofs do?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum develops a transparent oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, giving it inherent protection. In Harrington Place's wet climate with 2,163 mm of annual rainfall, this chemistry is a genuine advantage over steel. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum is finished with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon on both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so durability compounds year after year without the maintenance burden.
Does a metal roof rated for Class 4 hail really reduce insurance costs in Washington?
Interlock Metal Roofing carries UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this durability and may offer premium reductions or discounts, though rates depend on your carrier and your home's full profile. In Cowlitz County, where wind gusts average around 115 km/h and severe weather is possible, a non-combustible, impact-rated roof also qualifies for Class A fire rating, further strengthening your insurable value. Check with your provider to quantify savings, but the documented resilience is a selling point they understand.
Can my existing roof framing handle a metal roof, or do I need expensive reinforcement?
No reinforcement is needed. Interlock's aluminum panels weigh as little as 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile and about 0.59 lb/sq ft for the Mediterranean Tile—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most homes built to code for asphalt shingles (which weigh about 2.5–3 lb/sq ft) have more than enough structural capacity. The panels install directly over your existing roof in most cases, saving the cost and waste of a full tear-off. This efficiency is especially valuable in wet climates like Harrington Place, where moisture can hide under torn-away roofing during multi-week rainy seasons.
With 2,163 mm of rain yearly in Harrington Place, how do metal roofs prevent leaks?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels create an overlapped, integrated weather seal that sheds water continuously without relying on sealants. The mechanical interlock is the leak prevention—not adhesive or caulk that deteriorates. Heavy rainfall (about 2,163 mm annually) tests this design rigorously, but the rated installation, with each panel locking to the next and underlying underlayment, channels water downslope in a predictable path. The ESR-1790 ICC evaluation (reissued 2025) confirms compliance with IBC/IRC waterproofing standards, so building inspectors will sign off and homeowners get documented peace of mind.
Are interlocking metal panels really stronger than shingles in high-wind areas?
Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification—far exceeding Harrington Place's typical gusts of about 115 km/h (71 mph). The four-way interlocking design means each panel locks to its neighbors on all sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof system rather than relying on individual fasteners or adhesive lines. In Cowlitz County's climate, where gusts regularly exceed 100 km/h, this engineering translates to fewer seasonal inspections and repair calls. The rigid aluminum structure also doesn't flutter or loosen like asphalt shingles, eliminating the progressive creep that opens gaps over time.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need compared to asphalt or wood?
Interlock aluminum roofs require virtually no routine maintenance—no moss treatment, no gutter sealant reapplication, no granule loss. Asphalt shingles degrade from UV and weather, requiring moss/algae cleaning and repairs as the surface erodes. Wood shakes split and cup, needing replacement pieces. Aluminum is inert and CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, meaning fewer climb-ups and fewer costs over the roof's lifetime. In Harrington Place's wet climate with 2,163 mm rain annually and 163 cm of snow, the absence of moisture-trapping surfaces (which breed moss and rot) is a concrete benefit. Occasional gutter cleaning is the only routine task.
Is a metal roof Class A fire-rated, and does that matter in Washington?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is non-combustible and qualifies for Class A fire rating—the highest classification. Aluminum won't ignite, char, or carry flame, making it fundamentally different from asphalt shingles, which are Class C. If your homeowner's or commercial insurance references fire rating, or if your neighborhood has wildland-urban interface exposure, Class A is a documented safety upgrade. In Cowlitz County, this rating may also reduce insurance premiums and strengthen resale appeal. The material's non-combustibility is especially valuable in regions where wildfire risk is growing, and it's verified in the ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation.
Is aluminum roofing really more environmentally responsible than asphalt?
Aluminum roofing breaks the asphalt cycle: shingles last 15–20 years, then the entire roof goes to landfill; Interlock's lifetime warranty eliminates that tear-off. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, and at end of life (far in the future), it retains full scrap value. Over 50 years, you avoid multiple asphalt disposals that would consume landfill space and generate disposal costs. Manufactured in Delta, BC, since 1998 and installed globally—from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station—Interlock's track record shows zero degradation in extreme environments. In Harrington Place's rainy climate, the durability means you're not replacing a roof every two decades, eliminating the environmental and financial waste cycle.
Who installs Interlock Metal Roofing in Harrington Place, and how long does the job take?
Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served Cowlitz County and the region since 1997, bringing 27 years of local expertise to residential and commercial installations. Installation timelines depend on roof size and whether the job installs over existing shingles (typical) or includes a tear-off, but most residential projects complete in 3–7 days. The current promotion—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—is available through the local team. They handle permitting, inspection coordination, and the warranty registration process, ensuring your Guardian Warranty is properly documented and transferable to the next owner over its 50-year term.
