We had an excellent experience the first time with Interlock so used them again when we moved to our new home. I can’t sing praises any higher. Mike Rasmussen sold us the first time and we were lucky to have him this time as well. May and Patrick are wonderful to work with. Gregory, our installler, worked hard to get the job done single handedly when his partner had a family emergency and couldn’t continue. Our roof is gorgeous and the neighbors are slowing to look. I would recommend Interlock any time and every time! My pics don’t do it justice.

Review: October 20, 2016

We have been enjoying our Interlock roof for several months. The planning, purchasing, and installation experience was everything we expected it to be – superb. The original shingles, paper, and staples were removed. The two installers did these tasks without making a mess in the surrounding garden or the patio. A new waterproof barrier was laid out and the new aluminum shingles were installed. To my pleasant surprise, each one was nailed in with 2 aluminum nails. This gives me confidence that this roof is made to last and is an excellent value for money. The installers worked for 3 consecutive days until the entire roof was done. Site cleanup was done at the end of each day. Some days the 2 installers worked beyond “regular” hours even though it must have been uncomfortable as these were unusually hot days for this area. Now, our house is much cooler in the summer and warmer in the colder weather. We have found it be noisier in heavy rain, but not significantly so. I quite like feeling dry, warm and cozy inside while it is raging outside – we live on a mountain, exposed to the elements. Last year I would go out and count how many shingles had been blown off by the high winds. I don’t need to do that anymore. Our neighbors have given us many compliments regarding our new roof – we are the envy of our small community. Finally, I would recommend Interlock to anyone considering a roof that lasts for many years. The product is outstanding.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Kelso

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Kelso, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Kelso.

Does metal roofing handle heavy snow and ice in Kelso winters?

Yes—Interlock panels are engineered for snow load and ice dam prevention. Kelso averages about 51 cm of snow annually plus roughly 24 freeze-thaw cycles per year, creating exactly the conditions where metal's smooth, non-porous surface outperforms asphalt. Snow sheds naturally instead of sitting and refreezing; the four-way interlocking system keeps water out even when ice forms at the eaves. Optional snow guards can be installed if you want to control how snow leaves your roof.

Why choose aluminum metal roofing instead of steel in a rainy climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—only aluminum oxide forms on the surface, and that oxide layer self-heals when scratched. In Kelso's 1500 mm annual rainfall and Pacific Northwest moisture, this matters. Steel requires constant paint maintenance to prevent rust failure; aluminum simply doesn't. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy to ASTM B209, plus a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both panel sides for extra protection in salt-air and wet climates. Your roof stays corrosion-free without intervention.

Can metal roofing withstand Kelso's wind gusts?

Absolutely. Kelso's typical wind gusts reach about 103 km/h, well below Interlock's 120 mph (193 km/h) wind resistance warranty when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together so tightly that wind pressure cannot separate them—each panel is secured to the last on all four sides. This is why metal roofing performs in coastal storms and mountain pass conditions. Your roof will still be there after the kind of gust that can lift asphalt shingles.

Will a metal roof lower my cooling costs in summer?

Metal roofing reduces cooling demand because energy-efficient Interlock colors have thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance as high as 0.55, meaning they bounce heat away rather than absorb it like asphalt. Kelso gets about 2835 sunshine hours annually—enough to matter. The Cool Roof Rating Council verification proves measurable energy savings. On a hot day, your attic temperature will be noticeably lower, reducing air-conditioner runtime. Over a 50-year roof life, that compounds into real money, especially as summers warm.

Is metal roofing tough enough for hail, and does it affect insurance?

Interlock carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and your warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That durability often translates to insurance premium reductions or credits because hail claims drop to nearly zero. While Kelso's climate profile doesn't show extreme hail frequency, the fact that your roof is essentially unhailable removes a major risk category from an insurer's perspective. Many homeowners see their policy adjust within a year of installation due to this non-impact-loss profile.

How long does a metal roof last, and what's the warranty?

Your metal roof will outlive you. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no time limit. It's transferable once to the next owner, who gets 50 years of coverage from completion date. Combined with aluminum's non-corrosive nature and a 30-year coating warranty against chalking and fading, you're buying the last roof you'll install. No other roofing material offers that kind of protection on both material and finish.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Yes, when you calculate the full lifecycle. Asphalt needs replacement every 15–20 years; you'll install it 2–3 times over Interlock's lifespan. Add tear-off labor, disposal fees, and lost time, and the total cost of ownership heavily favors metal. Interlock's weight advantage—the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 96% less than concrete or clay tile—also eliminates expensive structural reinforcement, bringing installation costs down. Current financing: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off the full installation. Over a 50-year horizon, metal roofing is the cheaper choice.

How long does metal roof installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?

Installation typically takes days, not weeks, depending on roof size and complexity. Interlock's light weight—as little as 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile—means most existing roofs can handle it without reinforcement, so you often avoid tear-off costs and landfill waste. The installer (Interlock Metal Roofing PNW Inc., serving the region since 1997) will assess your deck and flash detail before starting. No tear-off means faster completion, less site disruption, and lower labor cost. This matters in Kelso's rainy season: shorter exposure time reduces weather risk during installation.

How does metal roofing keep water out in Kelso's 1500 mm annual rainfall?

The four-way interlocking panel system is engineered so water cannot travel horizontally between panels—each edge locks to its neighbor on all four sides, creating a continuous barrier. Kelso's 1500 mm rain falls mostly in autumn and winter as persistent drizzle rather than intense downpours, making panel overlap and sealant redundancy very effective. Proper flashings at walls, valleys, and penetrations complete the water management. Combined with a solid deck and underlayment, the result is asphalt-level leak protection with metal durability. Thousands of installations in coastal British Columbia and wet Pacific Northwest sites prove this design.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt?

Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable aluminum, and aluminum scrap has real value—your old roof won't go to landfill the way asphalt shingles do. A typical asphalt tear-off generates 5–10 tons of waste per home; metal roofing eliminates that cycle entirely. Installing metal over your existing roof further reduces waste generation. Aluminum's full recyclability means your roof can return to the supply chain at end of life. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance impact. Over a 50-year roof life, choosing metal instead of asphalt shingles prevents tens of thousands of pounds of landfill burden—real environmental math, not marketing.
