Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Coal Creek, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
They did a great job on the roof, and it looks great. There was a little confusing with setting up the payments, but Rene was nice with helping me figure everything out. The system doesn't seem to have what you owe listed on there. We had to look at the invoice to determine things. I think the system could be a little clearer as to what you owe at what time. The little nails are not a huge problem. I used to do roofing when I was younger, and I understand how it works. Everyone was really nice and polite. When they did the installation, they knocked it out quickly before any rain. We did push it to the rainy season, so that was good to have it done quickly. They were really patient and responsive. If I had a question, I got an answer back quickly. I never felt like I was in the dark. This company is very customer orientated.
Interlock Roofing is amazing. From the first day I met their salesman to the day they started work on our barn and house. They were very easy to talk to and express our concern about how important it was to keep our hay safe from rain and the ground around the barn safe for the animals. They were fast exceptionally clean and so much fun to get to know. I definitely would recommend this company to anyone who wants to have a roof that will last a life time. Thank you for an amazing job and two beautiful roofs!
They all did a great job. Really liked the install crew. Was a pleasure...not sure where anyone could improve.
Timeliness, management communication with the customer. Not at this time. Dissappointed in time it took to complete project.
I had originally planned to use the product on a new building but needed an older house reroofed. Newer building has been put on hold for now.
Professional and timely, installation was ahead schedule. A post (1-2 months) inspection done by non installers.
COMMUNICATION!!Don't make appointments and then not show up, don't miss appointments and make customers call for days to find out why and when the new appointment will be just to not show up again. ANSWER the PHONE when people call, having customers sit without information is infuriating and just makes them unhappy from the start. So...Communication and customer service improvement would be great. We were very upset with the wasting of our vacation time, had we known you would cancel 3 appointments to install just to not show up until after the leave from work was over, we would have gone and done things on our vacation. Instead it was just us sitting around the house very angry wondering if they were going to show up at all or even call....you wasted our time, and my husbands vacation time.
This company is a scam!and is now trying to put a lien on my house.i have been lied to by Glenn gloss and he tried to get me to sign a mortified contract for cheaper material when that didn't work he stalled,I am disabled and was under a heavy medication when I signed a contract with Glenn boss...
Needed to put this project on hold, due to other issues that have arisen. You will be the first people we call when we are ready to roof our home.
We had an excellent experience the first time with Interlock so used them again when we moved to our new home. I can’t sing praises any higher. Mike Rasmussen sold us the first time and we were lucky to have him this time as well. May and Patrick are wonderful to work with. Gregory, our installler, worked hard to get the job done single handedly when his partner had a family emergency and couldn’t continue. Our roof is gorgeous and the neighbors are slowing to look. I would recommend Interlock any time and every time! My pics don’t do it justice.
We are in the middle of a lawsuit because they destroyed our ceiling by not covering the unfinished roof when it rained. They could have improved by covering the unfinished roof when it rained. I am still waiting on my lawyer to see if they are going to honor the warranty. As I have said, now my roof is falling apart.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Coal Creek
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Coal Creek, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Coal Creek.
How does a metal roof handle Coal Creek's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, hard surface resists the freeze-thaw bonding that traps moisture. Coal Creek averages about 51 cm of snow and roughly 24 freeze-thaw days annually—conditions that accelerate asphalt degradation. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, which includes the dynamic forces from snow load and ice shifts. The lightweight design (Cedar Shingle installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed, even when snow accumulates.
Can a metal roof rust in Washington's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; it forms a self-healing oxide layer when exposed to air and moisture. This distinction matters in Coal Creek's 1500 mm annual rainfall—a steel roof requires protective coatings that degrade over time, while aluminum's oxide naturally regenerates when scratched. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides adds a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, creating a dual-layer defense. Interlock has installed roofs from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctica since 1998, proving aluminum's durability in corrosive environments.
Will a metal roof withstand Coal Creek's winter wind gusts?
Yes—Interlock roofs are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), well above Coal Creek's typical gusts of 103 km/h. The four-way interlocking panel design distributes wind loads across the entire roof plane rather than concentrating stress at fastening points, as traditional shingles do. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025 for IBC/IRC compliance) confirms this wind resistance when installed to specification. This engineering detail is critical in a region where winter gusts regularly test roof integrity.
Does Interlock's metal roof stand up to hail, and can it lower my insurance costs?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This resilience often qualifies for homeowner insurance discounts because metal roofs file fewer hail claims than asphalt. Class A fire classification is also available (non-combustible aluminum), which some insurers reward further. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 and ESR-1790 documentation; combined with Coal Creek's moderate hail frequency, this protection typically reduces annual premiums.
What's the actual lifespan and warranty on an Interlock metal roof?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner—non-prorated—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once to the next owner, who receives 50 years of coverage from completion. This structure reflects aluminum's durability: manufactured since 1998 without a single documented rust failure. While asphalt roofs require replacement every 15–20 years and generate landfill waste, Interlock ends that cycle—you buy one roof, not three over 60 years.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Over a 50-year ownership horizon, metal roofing typically costs less than multiple asphalt replacements despite higher upfront investment. Coal Creek's 1500 mm annual rainfall and 51 cm snow accelerate asphalt degradation, often requiring replacement every 15–20 years. Three asphalt cycles (material, labor, disposal) typically exceed a single Interlock installation paid once. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off the installation cost. The lifetime transferable warranty also appeals to buyers, potentially increasing resale value and offsetting the initial premium over the home's holding period.
Does a metal roof save energy in a rainy Pacific Northwest climate?
Yes—Interlock's energy-efficient colors have thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny profile), reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into the attic. Even in Coal Creek's relatively moderate climate (mean 11.6°C, about 2835 sunshine hours annually), this reflectance reduces cooling loads during warmer months and lowers overall HVAC demand. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms measurable efficiency gains. Over a 50-year lifespan, cooling-cost reductions compound significantly, especially if you install energy-efficient colors in profiles like Slate or Mediterranean Tile.
Can Interlock's metal tile roof install over my existing shingles without reinforcing the structure?
Yes—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This extraordinary weight difference means no structural reinforcement is required, even when your existing roof adds to the load. Coal Creek's 51 cm annual snow load is distributed across a lighter, more durable surface without overwhelming your framing. Interlock installs over most existing roofs in a single application, eliminating costly tear-off labor and landfill disposal. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 report confirms compliance for this direct-over installation method.
How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal roofs require virtually no maintenance. Aluminum doesn't rot, split, curl, or need chemical treatment like wood or asphalt shingles. Rain naturally cleans the Alunar® 70% PVDF finish; no moss or algae treatment is necessary in Coal Creek's 1500 mm annual rainfall. Asphalt roofs require regular inspection, debris removal, and often algae/moss treatment by year 5–7. Wood shakes demand annual cleaning and costly repairs. The Guardian Warranty covers splitting and cracking—conditions that don't occur on aluminum—so you're protected against the maintenance failures that plague traditional materials. CALGreen verification acknowledges this reduced-maintenance advantage.
Who installs Interlock metal roofs in Coal Creek, and do they have local experience?
Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the Cowlitz County region since 1997—over 25 years of experience with Pacific Northwest climates, snow loads, and wind conditions like those in Coal Creek. They're familiar with local building codes, permit requirements, and the specific challenges of wet, freeze-thaw environments. The installer holds current ICC-ES ESR-1790 certification and can execute the 120 mph wind-resistance installation specification. Scheduling and service are local, not outsourced; your roof is installed by a team that knows Coal Creek's weather patterns and can respond quickly if questions arise after completion.
