We had an excellent experience the first time with Interlock so used them again when we moved to our new home. I can’t sing praises any higher. Mike Rasmussen sold us the first time and we were lucky to have him this time as well. May and Patrick are wonderful to work with. Gregory, our installler, worked hard to get the job done single handedly when his partner had a family emergency and couldn’t continue. Our roof is gorgeous and the neighbors are slowing to look. I would recommend Interlock any time and every time! My pics don’t do it justice.

Review: October 20, 2016

We have been enjoying our Interlock roof for several months. The planning, purchasing, and installation experience was everything we expected it to be – superb. The original shingles, paper, and staples were removed. The two installers did these tasks without making a mess in the surrounding garden or the patio. A new waterproof barrier was laid out and the new aluminum shingles were installed. To my pleasant surprise, each one was nailed in with 2 aluminum nails. This gives me confidence that this roof is made to last and is an excellent value for money. The installers worked for 3 consecutive days until the entire roof was done. Site cleanup was done at the end of each day. Some days the 2 installers worked beyond “regular” hours even though it must have been uncomfortable as these were unusually hot days for this area. Now, our house is much cooler in the summer and warmer in the colder weather. We have found it be noisier in heavy rain, but not significantly so. I quite like feeling dry, warm and cozy inside while it is raging outside – we live on a mountain, exposed to the elements. Last year I would go out and count how many shingles had been blown off by the high winds. I don’t need to do that anymore. Our neighbors have given us many compliments regarding our new roof – we are the envy of our small community. Finally, I would recommend Interlock to anyone considering a roof that lasts for many years. The product is outstanding.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in West Longview

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in West Longview, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in West Longview.

Will a metal roof handle West Longview's snow and ice buildup?

Yes — aluminum's lightweight design and smooth panel surface actively shed snow and ice rather than holding it. West Longview averages about 51 cm of snow annually across roughly 24 freeze-thaw days per year, a cycle that can crack or split heavier roofing. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind gusts up to 103 km/h and manage the freeze-thaw stress. Optional snow guards can be installed if you prefer retained snow for insulation or aesthetics.

Can aluminum roofing rust in a wet climate like Cowlitz County?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — the element that oxidizes in moisture. Instead, its oxide layer self-heals when scratched, making it ideal for West Longview's 1500 mm annual rainfall. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires ongoing maintenance and will eventually corrode despite coatings.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Over the roof's life, yes — asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years and requires tear-off disposal; Interlock comes with a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner, plus a one-time transferable 50-year term for the next owner. In West Longview's 1500 mm rainfall and 51 cm snow climate, asphalt faces accelerated granule loss and split risk. Financing through Interlock's current promotion (no payments or interest until Spring 2027) eliminates the upfront barrier while you own a roof that ends the asphalt replacement cycle.

Can my house support a metal roof, or do I need to reinforce the structure?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Cedar Shingle profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft and the Mediterranean Tile (which replicates heavy concrete or clay) at 0.59 lb/sq ft — about 96% lighter than the real materials. The lightweight design installs over most existing roofs, saving tear-off labor and landfill impact. In a climate with 24 annual freeze-thaw cycles and occasional gusts to 103 km/h, this reduced load also minimizes stress on aging framing.

How does a metal roof perform in hail, and could it lower my insurance?

Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum construction and proven durability have qualified some homeowners for insurance premium reductions; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation. West Longview's typical annual wind gusts reach 103 km/h, and Class 4 hail resistance is built to exceed that punishment.

What warranty does an Interlock metal roof carry, and how long will it actually last?

The Guardian lifetime limited warranty is non-prorated for the original owner and covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance — an unusually broad scope. The coating itself is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured). If you sell, the warranty transfers once, giving the next owner 50 years of protection from the completion date. Interlock has manufactured panels since 1998 and installed them from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, proving longevity across extreme climates.

Is a metal roof safe in West Longview's wind and storm conditions?

Fully — Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, far exceeding West Longview's typical gust record of 103 km/h. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors and the deck, distributing wind load across the entire assembly rather than relying on fasteners alone. In Cowlitz County's maritime climate, this robust connection prevents the panel separation and edge-flutter that plague single-fastened roofing during rapid pressure changes.

How long does it take to install a metal roof, and can you install over my existing shingles?

Yes, Interlock installs over most existing roofs, eliminating expensive tear-off labor and the environmental cost of landfill disposal. Timeline varies with roof size and weather — West Longview averages 2835 sunshine hours annually, favoring installation windows — but most residential projects complete in 2–5 days. Installing over an existing deck creates a double-layer thermal barrier, which is especially valuable during the region's 24 annual freeze-thaw cycles. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served this region since 1997 and can assess your existing structure on-site.

Does a metal roof help with heating and cooling costs in Washington?

West Longview's 2835 annual sunshine hours make reflective roofing meaningful. Interlock offers energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. These finishes reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling load and lowering utility costs over decades. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating maintains reflectance even as it ages, protecting long-term energy performance. In a climate averaging 11.6°C annually, every bit of solar gain control matters.

How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or tile?

Far less. Asphalt requires ongoing granule-loss monitoring and loses integrity in West Longview's 1500 mm annual rainfall; wood shakes split during 24 freeze-thaw cycles; concrete tile cracks and leaks. Interlock aluminum sheds water, never splits or rots, and requires only occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal — no coating reapplication, no patching, no sealing. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Over a 50-year lifespan, this difference translates to thousands of dollars saved in labor and chemicals.
