Review: May 11, 2025 Completion: May 14, 2025

We had an excellent experience the first time with Interlock so used them again when we moved to our new home. I can’t sing praises any higher. Mike Rasmussen sold us the first time and we were lucky to have him this time as well. May and Patrick are wonderful to work with. Gregory, our installler, worked hard to get the job done single handedly when his partner had a family emergency and couldn’t continue. Our roof is gorgeous and the neighbors are slowing to look. I would recommend Interlock any time and every time! My pics don’t do it justice.

Review: January 12, 2022 Completion: December 31, 2021

We are in the middle of a lawsuit because they destroyed our ceiling by not covering the unfinished roof when it rained. They could have improved by covering the unfinished roof when it rained. I am still waiting on my lawyer to see if they are going to honor the warranty. As I have said, now my roof is falling apart.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Castle Rock

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Castle Rock, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Castle Rock.

Does metal roofing handle heavy snow and ice the way asphalt does in Castle Rock winters?

Metal roofing handles snow load better than asphalt because its smooth, interlocking panels shed snow and ice more efficiently, reducing the weight burden on your home. Castle Rock receives about 42 cm of snow annually across roughly 45 freeze-thaw days, creating conditions where ice dams commonly plague traditional roofs. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to 120 mph wind resistance when installed to spec, so packed snow and ice won't compromise the seal. The material's light weight—the Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement is needed, giving you peace of mind through our wet winters.

Will freeze-thaw cycling in this region damage an aluminum metal roof over time?

No—aluminum's oxide layer actually self-heals after freeze-thaw stress, making it more durable than materials that crack or split under repeated temperature swings. Your Castle Rock roof will experience around 45 freeze-thaw cycles yearly in our typical 10.2°C climate, but aluminum contains no iron and cannot rust or rot, so the cycling won't degrade the material itself. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured), providing a protective barrier through decades of our wet-cold winters.

Can metal roofing handle Castle Rock's 1,300+ mm of annual rainfall without leaking?

Yes—the four-way interlocking panel design, combined with proper flashing and a solid deck with underlayment, sheds water as reliably as any roofing system and is rated to ICC-ES ESR-1790 standards (IBC/IRC, reissued 2025). Castle Rock averages about 1,348 mm of rain per year, and metal's smooth surface prevents water pooling; instead, rain flows directly off the interlocking seams without penetrating the structure. When installed over an existing roof, you eliminate reroofing labor, and the lightweight aluminum (roughly 96% lighter than traditional tile) means no sagging that could trap water.

Why is aluminum roofing better than steel for a wet climate like ours?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the material that causes rust in steel roofing and gutters. This matters in Cowlitz County where high humidity and occasional coastal influence create corrosion risk; an aluminum roof simply doesn't face that threat. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) forms a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, and the Alunar® 70% PVDF finish is applied to both panel sides for extra protection. The Guardian Warranty even covers rusting—because it won't happen—giving you assurance through 45+ annual freeze-thaw days and 1,348 mm of rain.

Are metal roofs safe in Castle Rock's wind gusts, or will they blow off?

Metal roofing is safer in wind than most people assume—the four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together so tightly that they resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to spec, far exceeding our typical gusts of about 102 km/h. The University of Waterloo and other research has shown that properly installed metal roofing outperforms shingles in windstorms because the interlocks create a unified system rather than individual pieces. Castle Rock's average daily winds run about 14 km/h, so you're well within the safety envelope. Installation by Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., which has served this region since 1997, ensures your panels meet every structural requirement.

Does a metal roof stand up to hail, and could it lower my insurance premiums?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating qualifies for insurance discounts with many carriers because the roof resists impact damage that would destroy asphalt shingles. While Castle Rock's hail risk is moderate, the combination of Class A fire classification (non-combustible aluminum), wind warranty to 120 mph, and impact durability often catches insurers' attention. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 documentation to explore available savings on your premiums.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to replacing asphalt shingles every 15–20 years?

Over a 50-year horizon, metal roofing typically costs less than three asphalt replacement cycles, plus you eliminate tear-off labor and landfill fees every two decades. The Guardian Warranty offers a non-prorated lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner and transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, effectively locking in your roof investment for the life of most mortgages. Interlock's current promotion offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, making entry easier today. With our 1,348 mm annual rainfall and 45 freeze-thaw days, asphalt degrades faster here; aluminum's self-healing oxide layer and 30-year coating warranty mean fewer repairs.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure to handle a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed—Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily light, which is one of its greatest advantages. The Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the Mediterranean Tile (which mimics heavy clay or concrete) comes in at roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. This lightweight design means you can often install metal roofing directly over your existing asphalt roof, saving thousands in tear-off costs and labor. Your home's current framing already supports the weight; the installation happens as a straightforward retrofit. This efficiency is especially valuable in Castle Rock, where our 42 cm annual snowfall and gusty winters reward any reduction in static load.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shakes?

Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance—no algae treatments, no split-shingle repairs, and no rotting wood to patch. Asphalt shingles degrade under UV exposure and moisture; wood shakes split and curl; metal simply sheds water and debris. Interlock's roofing-grade aluminum (ASTM B209) and Alunar® 70% PVDF finish (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading) resist the heavy rainfall, freeze-thaw cycling, and humidity that plague traditional materials in our 1,348 mm–per-year climate. The Guardian Warranty covers maintenance-related failures like splitting, curling, and cracking—issues that eat up homeowner time and money with other roofs. A periodic rinse with a garden hose is all you'll typically do.

Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than replacing my asphalt roof?

Yes—aluminum roofing breaks the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle and offers genuine environmental benefit. Interlock's roofing is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, whereas typical asphalt shingles are replaced every 15–20 years and sent to landfills. Over 50 years, a home with asphalt experiences three or four major tear-offs; metal roofing stays on your home for life and then recycles into new products. The lightweight aluminum design also means you can install it over your existing roof, eliminating one tear-off immediately and the construction waste associated with it. With Castle Rock's 2,811 annual sunshine hours, energy-efficient colors (thermal emissivity 0.84) reflect summer heat, further reducing your home's environmental footprint.
