Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Mill A, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Mill A
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Mill A, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Mill A.
How does a metal roof handle the 120 cm of snow Mill A gets each winter?
Metal roofs shed snow more predictably than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface and thermal properties prevent ice-dam buildup that traps water. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels and lightweight design (the Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) mean your home's framing carries no structural load from accumulated snow—no reinforcement needed. Snow guards are available if you want controlled shedding. Mill A's typical snow load and 46 annual freeze-thaw cycles won't degrade aluminum; the oxide layer on our 3105-H24 alloy self-heals from moisture exposure, so ice contact causes no deterioration.
Will freeze-thaw damage hurt my metal roof over time?
No—aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw environments because it doesn't absorb moisture or expand/contract like asphalt or wood. With approximately 46 freeze-thaw days per year in Mill A, this cycling poses zero risk to roofing-grade 3105-H24 or 3003-H24 aluminum. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 measured), even through repeated temperature swings. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, become brittle in cold and soften in thaw cycles; our aluminum panel simply cycles elastically and outlasts that fatigue entirely.
Can aluminum roofing rust in Mill A's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes in moisture and salt. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopic oxide layer that actually protects the core metal. When that layer is scratched (by a branch, for example), it self-heals within hours or days. Interlock coats both sides of every panel with Alunar 70% PVDF, adding an extra 30-year warranty against coating degradation in Mill A's 937 mm annual rainfall. Steel roofing requires paint maintenance and will eventually rust through; aluminum offers maintenance-free corrosion resistance that outlasts the warranty period.
What stops heavy rain from leaking through the seams?
The four-way interlocking design creates a mechanical seal—each panel's edges lock into the next with an overlap pattern that sheds water downslope before it can find a seam. Add solid deck and underlayment (standard installation), and you have the same water-barrier system beneath asphalt roofing, but with metal's superior surface durability. Mill A receives about 937 mm of rain annually; that's 77 mm per month on average. The interlocking geometry means rain travels along panel surfaces and down the slope, not into joints. Interlock's four-way lock system is engineered to ICC-ES ESR-1790 standards, so leaks from proper installation are covered under the Guardian Warranty.
Can I install a metal roof over my existing shingles without structural work?
Yes, for most homes. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no structural reinforcement is required. Compare that to real slate (8–10 lb/sq ft) or concrete tile (15–20 lb/sq ft), and you'll see why aluminum saves money on framing upgrades. Mill A's typical wind gusts reach 108 km/h; that light weight actually improves wind resistance by reducing the structural stress on fasteners and the roof plane itself. Your existing framing likely supports asphalt shingles; Interlock panels weigh much less, so installing over your current roof is often feasible and faster than a tear-off.
Will wind damage a metal roof during Skamania County's gusts?
The Guardian Warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), and Mill A's typical gusts peak around 108 km/h—well within that margin. The four-way interlocking panels lock each sheet to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof plane rather than allowing individual panels to lift or flutter. UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating (the highest available) and ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirm the system's integrity when installed to spec. Asphalt shingles can be torn away by sustained gusts; Interlock's mechanical interlock design resists the peeling forces that metal roofing must withstand. Your home gets true peace of mind in windstorms.
Is the price of a metal roof worth it compared to replacing asphalt every 15–20 years?
Yes, because you buy the roof once. Asphalt requires replacement every 15–20 years; Mill A's 937 mm annual rainfall and freeze-thaw cycling accelerate asphalt deterioration. A lifetime limited, non-prorated Guardian Warranty on material (plus a transferable 50-year term to the next owner) means no future tear-off costs or landfill fees. The Interlock Slate profile is available now through Spring 2027 with no payments and no interest, or 10% off installation. Over 50 years, one metal roof outperforms three asphalt replacements financially. The transfer warranty also increases resale appeal, recouping installation cost through higher home value.
How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof need?
Virtually none. Unlike asphalt (which hardens and cracks), wood shakes (which split and rot), or clay tile (which breaks and stains), aluminum panels don't degrade from weather exposure. Rinse debris twice yearly if desired; that's optional. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so no repainting is ever required. Mill A's 3218 annual sunshine hours and 937 mm rain won't fade or corrode your roof. The Guardian Warranty covers cracking, curling, splitting, and loss of impact resistance—conditions asphalt and wood develop routinely. Essentially, your maintenance burden shrinks to gutter cleaning, same as any roof.
Will my insurance rates drop with UL 2218 Class 4 hail protection?
Possibly—many insurers offer discounts for Class 4 impact-rated roofing, and you should ask yours. Interlock exceeds the standard: the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Mill A sits in a region where hail risk exists, so that Class 4 rating (the highest UL 2218 offers) provides insurance companies concrete proof your roof won't fail from impact. Document your roof's UL 2218 Class 4 certification and the Guardian Warranty when you get a quote. A material that doesn't degrade from hail contact—unlike asphalt or wood—may qualify for lower premiums over the roof's 50-year lifespan.
How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?
Most installs take 1–2 weeks, depending on roof size and complexity. Because Interlock panels weigh ~0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft, installation often happens directly over your existing asphalt shingles—no tear-off, no landfill trip, no disposal cost. Solid deck and underlayment go down first, then the interlocking panels are fastened according to ICC-ES ESR-1790 specifications. Skamania County wind gusts to 108 km/h mean we secure panels tightly; the four-way interlock and fastening pattern are engineered for that. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997, so crews are familiar with local conditions. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 accelerates the decision for many homeowners.
