Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Underwood

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Underwood, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Underwood.

How does a metal roof handle Underwood's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow efficiently because the smooth surface and slight slope prevent ice dams—the root cause of winter leaks in asphalt roofs. Underwood averages about 193 cm of snow annually and roughly 55 freeze-thaw days per year; that repeated expansion and contraction destroys asphalt shingles but leaves aluminum unchanged. Aluminum's oxide layer doesn't degrade through freeze-thaw cycling, and the 120 mph wind warranty ensures snow guards stay secure even during gusts that reach 110 km/h. Snow slides off naturally rather than accumulating and rotting the substrate.

Can an aluminum metal roof actually rust in a wet climate like Skamania County?

No—aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath; if that layer is scratched, it regenerates automatically. Underwood receives over 1056 mm of rain annually, making corrosion resistance critical. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish—the dual-side coating is especially valuable in damp climates because it protects the underside from atmospheric moisture. This coating carries a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, so your roof stays protected through decades of Pacific Northwest rain.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure to support a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft and the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This extraordinary lightness means most homes in Underwood can accept a metal roof installed directly over existing asphalt shingles, avoiding costly tear-off and disposal fees. The four-way interlocking system distributes that minimal load evenly across your existing framing. Even homes with aging or modest structural capacity can upgrade without engineering consultation or reinforcement, making metal roofing accessible to far more homeowners than traditional heavyweight materials.

Will a metal roof hold up during Underwood's wind and gusts?

Yes—the four-way interlocking panels are engineered for extreme wind. Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Underwood's typical daily winds average 13 km/h with gusts reaching 110 km/h; your roof will face those gusts repeatedly throughout its 60+ year lifespan. The interlocking design means each panel mechanically locks to its neighbors on all four sides, preventing wind from lifting or separating the roof. This redundancy—each panel fastened and locked—is why the warranty covers such extreme speeds; there's no single point of failure that a gust can exploit.

How does heavy rainfall affect leak prevention with a metal roof?

Metal roofing's continuous interlocking seams create a nearly impervious surface; water cannot penetrate where panels lock together, and gravity drains rain off quickly. Underwood averages over 1056 mm of rain annually—enough to test any roof system year-round. Unlike asphalt shingles, which absorb moisture and fail at the seams after 15–20 years, Interlock's aluminum panels are non-porous and won't degrade from saturation. The roof is installed over solid decking and underlayment (like asphalt roofing) so the deck itself stays dry; water runs off the metal surface in seconds. Over decades, this impermeability prevents the rot, mold, and structural damage that plague traditional roofing in wet climates.

What hail protection does an aluminum metal roof offer, and could it lower my insurance?

Interlock metal roofing holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That exceptional durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because the roof resists damage that would total an asphalt roof. Underwood's climate data shows frequent wind gusts and weather variability typical of hail-prone regions. Class 4 impact resistance means your roof survives impacts that destroy asphalt shingles, so your carrier may reduce your premium immediately upon installation. Contact your insurer with the UL rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation report; many offer 10–15% discounts for metal roofing, which can offset installation cost within five to seven years.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to replacing asphalt shingles multiple times?

Over a 60-year ownership horizon, one metal roof costs far less than three or four asphalt roofs. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years in climates like Underwood's, with over 1056 mm annual rain and 193 cm snow; each replacement cycle includes labor, waste disposal, and disruption. Interlock's lifetime limited non-prorated warranty (for the original owner) and 50-year transferable term mean you stop buying roofing. The current regional promotion—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation—reduces the purchase barrier significantly. Calculate asphalt's cumulative cost over 60 years and add landfill fees; metal roofing becomes the single-purchase solution that never needs replacement again.

What does Interlock's warranty actually cover, and for how long?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. Non-prorated means there's no diminishing coverage based on roof age; a defect in year 50 is covered identically to year 5. The warranty is transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion. That 50-year term alone exceeds the expected performance horizon for most roofing investments. In Underwood's climate—with 55 freeze-thaw days per year and heavy snow—this warranty protects you against the exact failure modes that degrade traditional roofing. It's insurance that your roof will outlast the mortgage.

Can reflective metal roofing actually reduce my cooling costs in the Pacific Northwest?

Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it, reducing roof surface temperature by 30–50°F on sunny days and lowering cooling demand throughout summer. Underwood receives about 3181 sunshine hours annually; many days during spring, summer, and early fall benefit from that reflectance. Interlock's Cool Roof Rating Council-rated finishes have thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning they behave like a heat-deflecting shield instead of an asphalt heat sink. While cooling savings are modest in the maritime PNW, the reduced heat island effect extends shingle life on nearby roofs, lowers attic temperatures (cutting heating costs in shoulder seasons), and qualifies you for some utility rebates. Over 60 years, the energy benefit compounds.

How long does it take to install a metal roof, and can it go over my existing shingles?

Most residential metal roof installations complete in 3–5 business days. Yes, Interlock typically installs directly over existing asphalt shingles, eliminating tear-off labor and landfill disposal—a major cost and time saving. Your roofer inspects the existing deck for rot or structural issues; if the substrate is sound, the metal roof fastens over the existing shingles with solid decking and ice-and-water underlayment installed as specified. In Underwood's climate—with over 1056 mm annual rain and 193 cm snow—a sound substrate is critical to prevent moisture trapping; if problems exist, they're addressed before the metal roof goes on. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and can assess your home and provide a timeline during the initial consultation.
