Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Skamania

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Skamania, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Skamania.

How does a metal roof handle Skamania's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Metal roofs shed snow efficiently because aluminum's smooth surface and thermal properties prevent ice dams—critical when your region averages about 223 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 42 freeze-thaw days per year. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to 120 mph wind loads, so they hold firm as snow settles and shifts. The lightweight design (Slate installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural upgrade needed, even under snow load. Unlike asphalt that can crack or curl during freeze cycles, aluminum's oxide layer actually self-heals—it simply won't corrode from repeated winter moisture exposure.

With 1834 mm of annual rainfall in Skamania, can a metal roof actually stay leak-free?

Yes—the four-way interlocking panel design creates a water-shedding system that handles extreme rainfall without penetration. Skamania's average 1834 mm per year is managed by Interlock's overlapping aluminum seams, which direct water downward with no exposed fasteners in the rain path. The panels themselves are roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209 compliant) and cannot rot, split, or degrade under prolonged moisture. Installation over a solid deck with underlayment (often over your existing roof) adds a second water barrier, giving you the same quiet, leak-proof performance as an asphalt roof but without asphalt's tendency to absorb and hold water.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof in Washington winters?

No. Aluminum's strength actually increases in cold—it doesn't become brittle or lose impact resistance the way asphalt shingles do after repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Skamania's 42 annual freeze-thaw days and 223 cm of snow create intense seasonal stress, but aluminum expands and contracts minimally compared to asphalt or wood, so fasteners stay tight and seams stay sealed. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both sides of every panel, protecting against salt-air corrosion and moisture infiltration. This dual-sided protection is why Interlock roofs perform from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations—your freeze-thaw climate is well within the proven envelope.

Can aluminum roofs rust in Washington's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rusting is impossible by chemistry. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a thin, invisible oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched, protecting the metal underneath forever. In Skamania's wet climate with 1834 mm annual rainfall, this is a crucial advantage over steel roofs, which rust progressively once their coating wears through. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish adds a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading (measured to ASTM D4214 and D2244 standards), so corrosion risk is zero and color holds for decades. You'll never see rust stains running down your fascia, gutters, or siding.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles over the roof's lifetime?

Yes—metal is the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years in Skamania's rain-heavy climate (1834 mm annually) and freeze-thaw cycles (42 days per year), forcing multiple replacements and tear-off labor costs. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited, non-prorated for the original owner and transferable for 50 years to the next owner—no expiration date. The lightweight aluminum (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) often installs over your existing roof, eliminating tear-off costs. Combined with zero maintenance, no rust repair, and the 10% current promotion or deferred payment option until Spring 2027, the lifetime cost per year drops below asphalt within 20 years, then runs free.

Will a metal roof reduce my homeowner's insurance or survive Skamania hail?

Metal roofs rated UL 2218 Class 4 (the highest available) often qualify for insurance discounts, and Interlock's Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches—exceptional protection in any climate. While Skamania's typical wind gusts reach 138 km/h and heavy rain is the norm, hail events do occur in the Pacific Northwest, and your roof's impact rating becomes a safety net. The roofing-grade aluminum alloy maintains its impact resistance over time, unlike asphalt which becomes brittle with age and UV exposure. When you file an insurance claim, you'll have documented Class 4 certification and a lifetime warranty backing the repair or replacement—a combination most adjusters recognize as lowest-risk.

How well does a metal roof stand up to Skamania's windstorms?

Interlock metal roofs are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—far exceeding Skamania's typical gusts of 138 km/h. The four-way interlocking panel system creates a unified surface where each section locks to its neighbors, distributing wind loads across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. This is why the same product installs safely on Antarctic research stations and coastal salt-air homes where wind and storm load are extreme. Your region's wind history is well within the warranty envelope, so you can expect zero wind-related failures or callbacks.

Can my house support a metal roof without costly structural reinforcement?

Yes—no structural upgrade is needed. Interlock's aluminum is extraordinarily light: the Mediterranean Tile profile, despite replicating heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft and is roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. Slate installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft. This means your existing roof framing, which already supports a layer of asphalt shingles, has plenty of capacity—in fact, you'll often install the metal roof directly over the existing shingles, eliminating tear-off costs and labor. The lightweight design also reduces stress on gutters, fascia, and your home's overall structural envelope, while the ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms code compliance for residential installation across the IBC/IRC.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or wood?

Almost none. Unlike asphalt shingles that curl, crack, and shed granules (requiring regular inspection and repair in Skamania's 42 annual freeze-thaw cycles), aluminum doesn't rot, split, or degrade. Wood shakes and shingles demand regular treatment or inspection for moss, rot, and insect damage—especially in your region's 1834 mm annual rainfall. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum and Alunar 70% PVDF coating are CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. You'll clear gutters and check flashing like any roof, but there's no coating refresh, no granule loss, and no surprise rot repairs. The 30-year warranty on the finish protects your investment against fading and chalking—you're simply maintaining gutters and drainage, not the roof itself.

What does Interlock's lifetime warranty actually cover and how long does it last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no dollar cap, no deductible, and no time limit. It's also transferable: the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion, giving future buyers confidence in your home's durability. This is possible because aluminum cannot rust (no iron in the alloy), the Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against fading and chalking, and roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum simply doesn't degrade under normal conditions. Combined with Interlock's manufacturing record since 1998 and installation from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations, you're backing a product with proven longevity across extreme climates.
