Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in West End

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in West End, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in West End.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow in Washington, and will ice dams be a problem?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents water from refreezing at the eaves, and the panels' thermal conductivity helps melt ice from underneath. West End averages about 34 cm of snow annually across roughly 58 freeze-thaw days per year — conditions that create the wet, sticky snow that causes ice damming on traditional roofs. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels rated to 120 mph wind won't move under snow load, and aluminum's light weight (the Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) allows installation over most existing roofs without structural work.

Will freeze-thaw cycles crack or damage an aluminum metal roof?

Aluminum expands and contracts slightly with temperature swings, but it won't crack, split, or curl — those are wood and asphalt problems. The material's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so the 3105-H24 aluminum alloy stays protected even after seasonal temperature changes. With West End experiencing about 58 freeze-thaw cycles per year and mean temperatures around 13.9°C, traditional roofing materials absorb water and suffer damage; aluminum simply doesn't. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against fading and chalking, is specifically designed to hold up through exactly this kind of wet, cool climate stress.

Can an aluminum metal roof rust in a rainy climate like West End?

No — aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. The material forms a protective oxide layer that self-repairs when scratched, making it ideal for wet climates. West End receives about 1348 mm of rain per year, and the Alunar coating applied to both sides of every panel adds an extra barrier against moisture. Steel roofing rusts in these conditions; aluminum doesn't. This is why Interlock panels have been installed since 1998 on coastal salt-air homes and survive at Antarctic research stations — places where corrosion would destroy lesser materials within years.

How does a metal roof perform in heavy rain, and how is it sealed against leaks?

The four-way interlocking panels create overlapping seams that direct water downward and outward, and the foam underlayment (installed over solid deck) prevents water that does penetrate the surface from reaching the interior. West End's annual rainfall of about 1348 mm is handled by metal roofing better than asphalt because water cannot pool or soak into the material — it simply runs off. The panels' design has been proven through 25+ years of coastal installations where driving rain tests every joint. Proper installation to ICC-ES ESR-1790 specs ensures water stays out of your home.

Will a metal roof stay secure in West End's wind and storms?

Yes. Interlock's panels are four-way interlocking and warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. West End's typical daily-max winds average about 17 km/h with gusts reaching 110 km/h — well within this rating. The interlocking system means each panel is mechanically fastened to the next, so wind cannot lift or peel individual panels the way it can asphalt shingles. This design is backed by UL 2218 Class 4 hail impact testing and decades of real-world performance in high-wind coastal regions where asphalt would fail repeatedly.

Does metal roofing qualify for hail damage coverage or insurance discounts?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact rating available, and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches — a real advantage over asphalt or wood. Many insurance companies offer premium discounts for Class 4 rated roofing because the risk of damage and claims is demonstrably lower. Some insurers even return discounts quarterly. With West End's exposure to windstorms and weather, a non-combustible, hail-resistant roof can also lower your home and contents premium. Check with your current provider — the impact rating and 30-year coating warranty are often recognized in rate calculations.

Is it true you don't need to reinforce your house structure for a metal roof?

Correct. Traditional tile or slate roofing weighs 800–1200 lb per 100 sq ft and requires expensive structural reinforcement; Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft — roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means the Tile profile can install directly over most existing roofs without tearing off shingles or reinforcing trusses, saving thousands in labor and materials. For a home in West End dealing with 1348 mm annual rainfall and seasonal snow load of about 34 cm, having a roof that adds almost no structural burden is a practical advantage when existing framing is aging.

How much can an energy-efficiency metal roof really reduce cooling costs?

energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it, with initial reflectance up to 0.55 and emissivity of 0.84, rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. In West End's 3155 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance reduces the heat load reaching your attic and interior, lowering air-conditioning demand in summer months. The cooler attic also reduces ice-damming risk during freeze-thaw cycles — a dual benefit in this region's climate. Asphalt absorbs and re-radiates this same solar energy, driving cooling costs higher. Metal roofs don't eliminate cooling costs, but they measurably reduce the work your HVAC system has to do.

What maintenance does a metal roof need, really?

Almost none. Asphalt roofs need regular inspection for curling, moss treatment, and gutter cleaning; wood shakes split and rot; clay tiles crack and settle. Aluminum doesn't split, rot, curl, or support moss — it just sits there and sheds water and debris. Annual gutter cleaning applies to any roof, and occasional inspection for storm debris is standard sense. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, meaning the finish stays intact through West End's 1348 mm annual rainfall and 58 freeze-thaw cycles without recoating. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance, which translates to lower long-term costs than any traditional option.

Who installs Interlock roofs in West End, and how experienced are they?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served this region since 1997 and understands Skamania County's wet, cool climate, heavy rainfall averaging 1348 mm per year, and seasonal freeze-thaw stress across about 58 cycles annually. The local team knows which profiles and colors perform best in this specific environment and how to install over existing roofs to meet ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance. They're familiar with West End's building codes and can help you navigate the current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Working with local installers means faster service, warranty support you can actually reach, and real accountability.
