Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Morning Star, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Morning Star
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Morning Star, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Morning Star.
How does a metal roof handle Morning Star's heavy snow load and ice dams?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow effectively because the smooth, hard surface resists ice adhesion far better than asphalt. With about 120 cm of snow falling annually in this region, combined with roughly 96 freeze-thaw cycles per year, the non-porous aluminum oxide layer prevents water infiltration that causes rotting and deterioration in traditional materials. The panels are warranted to 120 mph wind resistance, so they stay locked down even when snow loads shift. Snow guards can be added if you want to control slide-off timing.
Will freeze-thaw cycling in Mason County damage an aluminum metal roof?
No. Aluminum's oxide layer actually strengthens when exposed to freeze-thaw stress—it self-heals when scratched and resists the cracking and spalling that plague asphalt, wood, and concrete materials through repeated moisture cycles. Morning Star experiences about 96 freeze-thaw days annually with average rainfall of 535 mm; these conditions would cause asphalt to curl and wood shakes to split. The 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy used in Interlock panels is engineered to withstand this exact pattern, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years) protects the substrate from any oxidation stress.
Can an aluminum roof rust or corrode in a wet climate like ours?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and causes rust. Interlock uses 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 roofing-grade aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), and its oxide layer is self-healing: when the surface scratches, a new protective layer forms automatically. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244). With 535 mm of annual rain in Morning Star, this dual-layer protection means zero corrosion risk—even coastal salt-air installations have performed flawlessly since 1998.
Does this metal roof hold up to hail, and can it lower my insurance premium?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty actually covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This rating often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts; contact your agent with the UL 2218 documentation. Mason County's typical wind gusts reach 102 km/h, and hail often accompanies severe wind events; an impact-rated metal roof demonstrates resilience that insurers recognize. The non-prorated lifetime limited warranty on materials means you're covered for impact loss across the roof's entire lifespan.
Is a metal roof so light that I don't need to reinforce my home's structure?
Yes. Interlock's Slate installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the Mediterranean Tile profile—which replicates heavy clay or concrete—weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft. That's approximately 96% lighter than the traditional tile it mimics, so no structural reinforcement is required. You can often install directly over an existing roof, saving thousands on removal costs and labor. This advantage matters in Morning Star's climate: lighter loads mean less stress during the 96 annual freeze-thaw cycles when materials expand and contract, and less burden on older homes that may not have been engineered for slate or tile weight.
What's the real cost difference between a metal roof and asphalt over time?
The lifecycle cost of an aluminum metal roof is dramatically lower than asphalt because you buy it once. Asphalt shingles typically last 15–20 years and require tear-off (sending them to landfill), replacement, and ongoing repairs; over a 50-year horizon you'll replace asphalt 2–3 times. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited for the original owner and transfers once for 50 years total, so your next owner gets decades of protection too. With 3289 sunshine hours per year in Morning Star and energy-efficient colors reflecting up to 0.55 solar reflectance, cooling costs drop measurably. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation.
How does a metal roof perform in Morning Star's wind events?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Morning Star's typical wind gusts reach 102 km/h (about 63 mph), well below this threshold, so the roof's mechanical interlock stays secure even in the strongest local storms. The panels lock together on all four sides, distributing lateral stress across the entire roof plane rather than concentrating it on individual fasteners. This design is verified in ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (IBC/IRC, reissued 2025). Over a 50-year lifespan with seasonal wind variation, interlocking panels outperform overlapped or fastener-dependent systems.
How much maintenance does an aluminum metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Minimal. Aluminum doesn't rot, split, curl, or degrade like wood shakes or asphalt shingles exposed to Morning Star's 535 mm annual rainfall and 96 freeze-thaw cycles. It requires no annual inspection for damage, no replacement of failed shingles, and no treatment against moss or algae growth. Occasional rinsing to remove debris maintains appearance; that's essentially it. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty) resists fading and chalking, so you won't see the color degradation typical of asphalt in regions with high UV exposure (3289 sunshine hours annually here). The Guardian Warranty covers cracking, curling, rotting, and splitting—maintenance issues you'll never face.
Can I get a metal roof that looks like slate, cedar shake, or tile in Morning Star?
Yes. Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile—each manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, using four-way interlocking aluminum panels. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles replicate traditional stone and wood aesthetics, while the Shake and Mediterranean Tile profiles mimic rustic and architectural styles. All profiles are available in multiple colors and finishes, and the energy-efficient options (reflectance up to 0.55 in Aged Copper Penny) can lower cooling costs in Morning Star's 3289 annual sunshine hours. Installation by Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., serving this region since 1997, ensures authentic profile alignment and proper interlocking.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Substantially. Interlock aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, breaking the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that occurs every 15–20 years in traditional roofing. Aluminum retains its properties through infinite recycles, so old panels become new material rather than waste. Manufacturing Interlock panels generates far less carbon than producing asphalt multiple times over a 50-year period. The CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance needs, which means fewer service visits and lower embodied emissions. With Morning Star's 535 mm annual rainfall and heavy snow load, durable materials that don't degrade or require replacement align with climate-conscious building practices.
