Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Neal Road

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Neal Road, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Neal Road.

How does a metal roof handle Neal Road's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, hard surface resists ice adhesion. Neal Road averages about 85 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 81 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that cause asphalt shingles to crack and curl. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels remain dimensionally stable through repeated freezing and thawing. The lightweight design (Slate installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed, and snow slides cleanly without accumulating stress on your home.

Will metal roofing crack or degrade in Washington's freeze-thaw weather?

No. Aluminum naturally resists freeze-thaw damage because it has no moisture-absorbing capacity like wood or asphalt. With 81 annual freeze-thaw cycles and nearly 262 mm of rainfall, Neal Road's climate aggressively breaks down traditional roofing—but aluminum oxide's self-healing layer continuously protects against corrosion at the material level. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, maintains its integrity through Mason County's temperature swings, preventing the brittleness and splitting you'd see in asphalt or shingles over two decades.

Can a metal roof withstand Neal Road's wind gusts and winter storms?

Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—far exceeding Neal Road's typical gusts of 93 km/h. The four-way mechanical interlock means adjacent panels lock on all sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof plane instead of relying on fasteners alone. This design has been field-proven in coastal and mountain regions with more severe wind exposure than Mason County typically experiences, so your winter storms pose no structural risk to the installed system.

Does metal roofing hold up to hail, and could it lower my insurance premiums?

Metal roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and Interlock's warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In testing, aluminum's rigid structure and interlocking design absorb impact energy without cracking or splitting. Because hail damage is a leading insurance claim in many regions and metal roofing demonstrably resists it, many insurers offer premium discounts or extended coverage at no extra cost. Contact your provider with Interlock's ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation report and UL listing to discuss available savings.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile—despite replicating the look of traditional clay tile—weighs about 96% less than concrete or clay, eliminating the structural upgrades those materials require. Most existing residential roofs can support Interlock panels without modification. This lightweight advantage also means the roof can install directly over your existing asphalt shingles, avoiding costly tear-off and landfill disposal while reducing installation time and labor.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?

Minimal. Metal roofing requires no roof coatings, sealants, or repairs like asphalt shingles demand every 8–12 years. Aluminum doesn't rot, split, or curl—even under Neal Road's 81 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 85 cm of snow. Occasional gutter cleaning and removal of heavy debris is standard for any roof. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF coating is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Unlike wood or asphalt roofs, you're not replacing sections or applying treatments year after year.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt over 40 years?

Yes, on a lifetime basis. Asphalt shingles cost less initially but require replacement every 15–20 years; over 40 years, you install two or three roofs plus tear-off disposal. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering material failure from any cause. The transferable one-time warranty extends 50 years for the next owner, meaning you install one roof and own it—no hidden replacement cycles. Current financing offers (no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off) make the initial investment comparable to asphalt while eliminating future costs.

What does Interlock's lifetime warranty actually cover, and is it transferable?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—essentially all common failure modes. It's non-prorated, so claims are honored at full value throughout your ownership. The warranty is one-time transferable to the next owner, who receives coverage for 50 years from completion date. This portability adds resale value; buyers know the roof carries decades of factory-backed protection. Combined with Interlock's 30-year coating warranty (ASTM D4214 / D2244 tested), your aluminum roof is protected across its lifespan.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt?

Yes, substantially. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable; at end-of-life, the entire roof enters the aluminum recovery stream, not the landfill. Asphalt shingles, torn off every 15–20 years, occupy millions of tons in landfills annually with no recovery pathway. Over 40 years, choosing metal eliminates two tear-off cycles and their associated disposal waste and transportation. Mason County's 262 mm annual rainfall demands durable, long-lived roofing; every year you avoid a premature replacement reduces your environmental footprint. Interlock's lightweight design also cuts installation carbon versus slate or tile, which require reinforcement and heavier machinery.

How long does it take to install a metal roof, and can it go over my old asphalt shingles?

Installation typically takes 3–7 days depending on roof size and weather; Interlock's lightweight design and snap-together panels speed the process compared to traditional roofing. Yes, most metal roofs install directly over existing asphalt shingles, avoiding costly tear-off and disposal. Your existing roof becomes an extra underlayment layer, improving sound insulation and thermal performance. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and knows Mason County's weather patterns; they'll assess your specific roof during an on-site evaluation and confirm whether over-shingle installation is appropriate for your home.
