Your home is your greatest investment, sheltering you from the storms. Don’t nickel and dime yourself when choosing a roof, you get what you pay for. We chose Interlock aluminum roofing for our house, and are totally pleased with it. Aluminum doesn’t rust period. The current rage of steel roofing is a racket preying on uninformed consumers who want something for next to nothing. Steel roofs are coated to prevent rust. However, once these coatings wear off rust sets in. I have personally seen an 18 year-old steel roof with significant rusting after the coating was gone. Do yourself a favor, get an Interlock aluminum roof. Dean Landers 5 star review June 9/2026 Janesville WI

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Our experience with having our Interlock roof installed was exceptional. It was installed during the hottest days of the year, and none of our neighbors could believe the installers were working so hard during the hot, muggy weather. They finished several days ahead of schedule and left the yard clean and neat, even after a complete tear-off of three layers of roofing. One day during the installation, we had a rain storm, and the installers all took shelter in their vehicles. I noticed that we had a leak in a spot that had clearly had leaks before we bought the house. When I pointed it out to the installers, they went up the ladder in the pouring rain, found the cause of the problem (which, again, was a pre-existing problem, not one due to the Interlock installation) and fixed it on the spot. The service was exceptional.

We purchased our roof in 2009 and as you can see from the pictures taken in May of 2017, our roof looks as new as the day we bought it. Here are the things we have noticed most about our Interlock Lifetime Roof over the last 8 years. It keeps our house much cooler in the summer than the asphalt roof we used to have. It really sheds snow, and the snow guards work great. We never need to use a snow rake. We love the durability and the curb appeal. Greg Weber our representative, who we were enthused to learn, is still with the company. When we saw him in 2009 he laid out all the variables in a professional way and our Interlock Roof has lived up to all of our expectations and promises he made. All companies promise results, service, and quality. Interlock delivers.

Review: May 16, 2017

The installation was super smooth. Every installer was courteous and professional. We get lots of compliments, and people stop by all the time to admire it. One of the biggest misconceptions about metal roofing is people think it’s loud. Our Interlock roof is very silent. The only way I know if it’s raining is if I look out a window. Also, the snow just slides off. We are also in a wind tunnel area, and we have never lost an Interlock shingle, and we have had the roof for many years. We were so pleased with our Interlock roof that we put the same roof on our lake home in northern Wisconsin. We get a lot more snow up there and the Interlock’s snow-shedding performance capabilities are second to none on that roof, too!

Review: May 16, 2017

First off, the installation crew was great! They worked very hard, took short breaks, and completed the job very efficiently. Greg Weber, our sales representative, told us an Interlock Roof was more energy efficient than asphalt, and one of the major things we noticed over the years is how much cooler our home office upstairs is in the summertime and warmer it is in the wintertime. It’s a dramatic difference from our old asphalt roof. We have had a few neighbors even question why we invested more in an Interlock roof than a typical asphalt roof, and we always smile and say, “Everybody complains about spending money. Do you want to complain about it once or multiple times, and do you want to be all in to have the best, or not in, and hope for the best.” Thank you, Interlock!

Review: May 16, 2017

Dear Interlock Lifetime Roofing Systems, The installation was terrific. Jessie and his crew were very nice, polite, and clean and worked together like a well-oiled machine. If I was to have work done on my home for any type of project, this is the team I would recommend and would want to work on my house. Greg Weber, my sales representative, answered all my questions, set the proper expectations, and over delivered in every aspect. We had a major rainstorm shortly after the installation, and we noticed no difference in sound at all. Our Interlock roof is the talk of the neighborhood.

Review: May 16, 2017

Dear Interlock Lifetime Roofing Systems: We purchased our Interlock Lifetime Roof in June 2014. We are very happy with the look, durability of the material, and finish. After a snowfall, the heat of the sun will warm the roof and allow the snow to shed from the roof. We have a great sense of security, knowing it can withstand higher winds than conventional asphalt. In fact, our neighbors lost many shingles in the last major wind storm, and our Interlock roof proved to be the high wind resistance product it is with all shingles intact. We love the fact it’s more reliable and has peace of mind knowing it has lots of longevity and will look brand new not only now but down the road. We also received a discount on our homeowner’s insurance. Overall, we were very satisfied with our sales representative Greg Weber, the company, the service, and the product.

Review: May 16, 2017

We have been do-it-yourselfer homeowners our whole lives. We are very handy and capable when it comes to home improvements and appreciate craftsmanship and quality. And that’s what Interlock Lifetime Roofing Systems provided us with our roof. Craftsmanship and quality. Plus, durability, beauty, and experience from a company that manufactures and certify install its own product. That is something, a company that makes its own product, that was very important to us, and no other company in our market offered that, except Interlock. Another thing that was important was we didn’t want to have to deal with rust because many steel metal roofs look good new but look old and hideous down the road because of fading and rusting. Interlock is aluminum. So, it won’t rust, and it achieves and exceeds the highest rating of hail resistance. So, it’s like we said earlier – super durable! Jessie and his crew were super and hard working. We were amazed by their work ethic. That’s something that’s becoming rare nowadays. Also, we were told by a competitor that Greg Weber and Interlock would be high-pressure. That was the furthest thing from the truth. Greg was polite, personable, and knowledgeable and helped us sift through the “lesser quality, cheaper installation, sales gimmicky and overly aggressive” competitors. He provided us with a detailed range of the competition by laying out all the variables so we could make an intelligent comparison and decision. Greg helped save us a lot of time from all the other companies in our market selling what everyone else is selling or just selling stuff and making promises they can’t keep. All the asphalt guys want you to believe that their products will last, and all the steel companies want you to believe their products won’t rust, and everybody knows… That’s Just Not True! Interlock has proven itself for over four decades. That’s Impressive. That’s why we went with them, Jessie and Greg.

In March 2017 we had an Interlock Lifetime Roof installed. Greg Weber, the salesman, was not pushy. We were very impressed with his salesmanship and the product. He also offered to have the Interlock product put on our wishing well in the front yard. That was something we really appreciated. The clean-up was excellent! Many neighbors and people who " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by the house have noticed the roof and asked a lot of questions. We have gotten lots of compliments!

Review: April 25, 2017

We visited the booth Interlock had at the Remodelling Show at State Fair Park. We got a lot of excellent information there and left our number for a call-back. We did receive the call back promptly and got an appointment right away. The estimator showed up on time and thoroughly explained the process, the product choices and the costs. We signed up for a new metal roof that evening because the advantages were so many, and the expense over time was not much different from regular shingles. This metal roof will probably outlive us! The actual work didn’t start for about two months because the company was very busy, but removing the old layers of shingles was the first process. This was done in a day, and the waterproofing membrane went on. The roofing materials were supposed to be delivered in a couple of days, which unfortunately didn’t happen. Instead, a heavy, rainy week intervened, and we did get water in our kitchen. It took a while to get someone to call me back and that was frustrating because it damaged our kitchen ceiling. Ultimately, though, I did get a call, and the work was expedited to the following day. The roofers did the entire installation in one day and did a great job. The roof is beautiful, and we have many people stopping and looking at the wonderful work and superior materials. I know the company will honor their promise to pay for the damage to the kitchen. Once that is done, all is well. The experience wasn’t perfect, but it was as close as mother nature and shipping glitches allowed.

The Interlock crew was able to take some extra time to coordinate with another contractor for solar installation. As a result, the final the result looks great and very functional. The materials used are very high quality, and they worked efficiently and cleaned up when finished.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Washington Heights

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Washington Heights, Wisconsin. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Washington Heights.

Will a metal roof handle Wisconsin snow load and ice dams?

Metal roofing handles snow exceptionally well because it's so light. Interlock panels weigh just 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than slate or tile—so heavy snow from Washington Heights' typical 88 cm annual snowfall won't stress your structure or require reinforcement. The smooth, hard surface sheds ice more readily than asphalt, and optional snow guards can be installed if you prefer managed release. Aluminum's oxide layer resists freeze-thaw damage; with about 79 freeze-thaw cycles per year in your area, that durability matters.

Can an aluminum metal roof rust in Wisconsin winters?

No—aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the metal even when scratched or exposed. This matters in Wisconsin because your region gets roughly 822 mm of rain annually plus winter moisture from snowmelt and freeze-thaw cycles. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. That dual-sided coating is especially valuable where moisture is persistent.

How does metal roofing handle freeze-thaw cycling?

Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but its crystalline structure is engineered to flex without cracking, splitting, or curling—problems that plague asphalt and wood shingles during Wisconsin's roughly 79 annual freeze-thaw cycles. The four-way interlocking panel system (ICC-ES ESR-1790) accommodates this movement while staying sealed. Because aluminum has no organic fibers to absorb moisture and swell, it doesn't degrade the way wood or asphalt do when water infiltrates during thaw, then refreezes. You're looking at a material that truly thrives in your climate.

Will metal roofing blow off in Wisconsin wind gusts?

Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Washington Heights' typical daily-max winds average about 22 km/h with gusts reaching 96 km/h—well within that range. The four-way interlocking design locks adjacent panels together, distributing wind load across the entire roof plane rather than stressing individual fasteners. That geometry, combined with ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 compliance, means you won't see the edge lifting or waviness that can plague single-locked systems in strong gusts.

Do metal roofs really save on cooling costs in summer?

Yes, when you choose energy-efficient colors. Interlock offers profiles with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and initial solar reflectance as high as 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. In a climate with about 3128 sunshine hours per year, that reflectivity means less heat absorption than dark asphalt, lowering peak attic temperatures and reducing air-conditioning load. You won't see dramatic savings in Wisconsin's cooler climate, but combined with the longevity gain—no tear-off-and-replace every 15-20 years—the energy benefit over 50+ years is real and measurable.

What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for as long as you own the home. It's also one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from installation completion. That's not marketing language—it reflects the real durability of 3105-H24 aluminum with a 30-year PVDF coating warranty. Combined with installation over your existing roof (no tearoff, no labor waste), you're buying the last roof you'll install, which is why cost-per-year over 50+ years is typically lower than any asphalt cycle.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?

Upfront, metal costs more; over the roof's life, it's usually cheaper. Asphalt typically lasts 15-20 years and requires tearoff, disposal, and reinstallation—a cycle you repeat 3-4 times across 50 years. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty, combined with zero maintenance, no replacement cycle, and installation over your existing roof (saving labor and landfill fees), spreads the cost over decades. Add in potential insurance discounts for the UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating, avoided storm damage, and the fact you'll never tear off and relandfill 822 mm of annual rainfall's worth of water-damaged asphalt—the long-term math favors aluminum significantly.

How much maintenance does an aluminum metal roof need?

Almost none. Interlock panels shed debris naturally; in Washington Heights' 822 mm annual rainfall, the smooth surface rinses clean during rain events with zero work from you. Unlike asphalt (which dries out and cracks in UV), wood shingles (which split in freeze-thaw and absorb moisture), or tile (which traps algae and requires pressure washing), aluminum doesn't absorb water, won't split, curl, or crack. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish maintains color and gloss for 30 years, guaranteed. Occasional gutter cleaning is all most homeowners do—vastly less labor than asphalt or clay tile over a 50-year ownership span.

How is metal roofing installed, and can it go over my existing roof?

Interlock panels install over your existing roof in most cases—no tearoff required. A solid deck layer (or roof deck preparation per ICC-ES ESR-1790) and underlayment ensure the acoustic barrier that silences rain noise to asphalt-quiet levels, even though metal sounds louder bare. Panels interlock four ways, so fastening is minimal and straightforward. Because aluminum panels weigh just 0.41-0.59 lb/sq ft (versus 600+ lb/sq ft for slate or tile), no structural reinforcement is needed. The timeline is typically 2-5 days depending on roof size; your local Interlock Metal Roofing installer, serving the region since 2001, can assess your specific roof and provide an accurate estimate.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt?

Dramatically so. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and can cycle through industrial and consumer use indefinitely without losing properties. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, end up in landfills at the end of every 15-20 year cycle; over 50 years, you'd dispose of asphalt roofing three or four times. Because Interlock installs over your existing roof, you avoid a tearoff-and-haul disposal event. At the end of its life—which is decades longer than asphalt—your metal roof's aluminum is salvageable scrap, not waste. CALGreen verification and reduced-maintenance status (no chemical treatments, no pressure-washing runoff) make it an environmentally sound choice aligned with long-term stewardship.
