Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Bannockburn, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
John M. was the third roofing sales consultant I talked to, and I had two more scheduled. After listening to John explain all the advantages of the InterLock System and materials, I was 95% sold but I thought it might be a little out of my price range. I was going to wait and hear from the other two roofers before I made my decision. John asked me what it would take for me to make my decision right then. I told him, and he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I cancelled the other two sales rep. meetings. Boy am I glad I did. Considering the amount of man hours put into the installation, I got a bargain! Jessie's team worked from 8AM to 7PM for a total of 8 days to complete the installation during July 2023 ( the hottest July ever recorded ). I don't know how they did it! Jessie answered all my questions during construction, and kept me informed of what would happen next. Some of the asphalt shingles on parts of the roof with a low slope had to be scraped off. The majority of the roof had a steeper slope, and the new metal roof could be installed directly on top. People had warned me that metal roofs were noisy during rain or hail events. Not true! The shingles and underlayment have actually muffled the sounds that I would hear coming from my old asphalt shingle roof. The ice and water shields that were on my existing chimneys and vents were extended farther up each one. Some of the vertical siding was temporarily removed and put back so new ice and water shield could be placed on top of the water and ice shield that was already there. I'm 70 years old so the lifetime guarantee may not mean much, but the ability to transfer to the next owner 50 more years of protection is huge! My wife and I are very satisfied with the quality of materials, and the outstanding installation work done by Jessie and his team. It's too bad that the rating companies only allow a 5 star rating for the best and most outstanding companies. A company like InterLock should get at least 10 stars.
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Communication could have been better prior to the project starting. They communicated wonderfully until we paid our down payment. Then communication ceased. There was no communication until we reached out to them expressing our concerns. Once the project started communication was phenomenal. The roof looks extraordinary. We have had some heavy rain and our roof has held up wonderfully and it is beautiful. We believe it is a better quality than others.
I was happy with them . They called me and gave me all the info They arrived on time and he loves business.
I can tell you this, the salesman was informative. The process lasted about three to four hours. He was very thorough. The thing was the samples sizes were too small and you couldn't tell how it would fit with the rest of the current things in the house. He was very in depth and I wanted to be able to give some feedback.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Bannockburn
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Bannockburn, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Bannockburn.
How does a metal roof handle Bannockburn's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, interlocked surface prevents moisture absorption and ice dam formation. Bannockburn averages about 73 cm of snow annually with approximately 82 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that crack asphalt and cause wood to split. Interlock's four-way interlocking design and non-porous aluminum eliminate water infiltration during thaw cycles. Snow guards are available if you want to control roof runoff. The material's light weight (Cedar Shingle profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural stress from accumulated snow load either.
Will freeze-thaw damage affect an aluminum metal roof over time?
No. Aluminum roofing thrives in freeze-thaw environments because the material itself does not absorb water or expand when frozen. With roughly 82 freeze-thaw cycles per year in Bannockburn, asphalt shingles crack and wood curls—but aluminum's oxide layer remains stable through repeated temperature swings. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against damage) adds another protective layer. The interlocking seams prevent meltwater from entering the structure. Homeowners in this climate typically see zero degradation from seasonal freezing.
Can a metal roof withstand Bannockburn's wind gusts and lake-effect storms?
Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Bannockburn's typical gusts average around 19 km/h with peak gusts to 97 km/h—well within that tolerance. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof system rather than relying on fasteners alone. This redundancy is why the UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating applies—the same engineering handles both impact and wind pressure. Lake County's seasonal wind patterns pose no threat to a properly installed Interlock roof.
Does a Class 4 metal roof qualify for insurance discounts in Illinois?
Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4 impact-rated roofing, though specific discount amounts vary by carrier and policy. Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4—the highest available impact rating—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Contact your agent with the UL rating; they will tell you what reduction applies. In a climate with about 3051 sunshine hours per year and moderate severe-weather risk, the combination of durability proof and documented impact resistance often translates to lower premiums or deductibles. Request the UL 2218 certification when obtaining quotes.
What warranty protection does Interlock offer, and does it transfer if I sell?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, a significant advantage when selling. Few roofing products offer non-prorated coverage or transfer terms this generous. Combined with Interlock's 30-year coating warranty (ASTM D4214/D2244 tested), you're protected against both material failure and finish degradation through decades of Bannockburn's freeze-thaw cycles and rain (about 993 mm annually). This warranty structure recognizes the roof's actual lifespan.
Can Interlock install over my existing roof, or must it be removed?
Installation over an existing roof is possible because Interlock's metal panels are extraordinarily lightweight. The Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so structural reinforcement is unnecessary and most homes need no modification. Your local Interlock installer (serving the region since 2001) assesses your deck and existing material during the pre-installation visit. Solid decking and proper underlayment are standard to ensure the quiet, watertight performance asphalt owners expect. Removing old asphalt is optional and affects timeline and cost; your installer will explain both approaches.
Will an Interlock metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient colors reflect rather than absorb solar heat, reducing cooling load. Interlock's rated colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (example: Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84, certified by the Cool Roof Rating Council. In Bannockburn's 3051 annual sunshine hours, this reflectivity advantage compounds across the cooling season. Metal conducts heat differently than asphalt—heat absorbed during the day dissipates faster once the sun sets rather than radiating into the home. Energy savings vary by color choice, home orientation, and HVAC efficiency, but homeowners typically report 10–20% cooling cost reductions. Discuss color options with your installer.
What profile styles does Interlock offer for Bannockburn homes?
Five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates traditional roofing appearance while delivering aluminum's durability. Slate and Cedar Shingle suit colonial and farmhouse homes; Shake complements rustic or cottage aesthetics; Mediterranean Tile works for Spanish-influenced or contemporary designs; Standing Seam appeals to modern and industrial properties. All profiles use the same roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy with four-way interlocking panels, so performance and warranty are identical. Your choice is purely aesthetic. Visit a showroom or request samples to see finishes and textures in person.
Is Interlock metal roofing recycled or recyclable?
Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable. At end of life (which may be 50+ years away), the entire roof enters the aluminum recycling stream rather than a landfill. Contrast this to asphalt shingles: millions of tons are torn off and discarded annually because asphalt cannot be reused. Aluminum's recycling infrastructure is mature and profitable, so your old roof has genuine material value. Interlock's CALGreen verification confirms reduced lifecycle maintenance burden as well. Choosing aluminum means choosing a material loop rather than a disposal problem—relevant in Lake County where environmental stewardship matters.
Who installs Interlock roofing in Bannockburn and the surrounding area?
Interlock Metal Roofing has served the region since 2001, with direct installation expertise across Lake County and surrounding communities. The local team understands Bannockburn's climate demands—82 freeze-thaw days annually, about 73 cm of snow, and roughly 993 mm of rain. They perform the pre-installation assessment, manage existing-roof decisions, install to Interlock's specification (ensuring the 120 mph wind warranty and UL 2218 Class 4 rating), and handle ongoing service. Choosing a local, manufacturer-authorized installer means faster service response, accountability, and familiarity with local building codes and permit requirements.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Bannockburn’s climate?
