Review: August 15, 2023Completion: July 31, 2023

John M. was the third roofing sales consultant I talked to, and I had two more scheduled. After listening to John explain all the advantages of the InterLock System and materials, I was 95% sold but I thought it might be a little out of my price range. I was going to wait and hear from the other two roofers before I made my decision. John asked me what it would take for me to make my decision right then. I told him, and he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I cancelled the other two sales rep. meetings. Boy am I glad I did. Considering the amount of man hours put into the installation, I got a bargain! Jessie's team worked from 8AM to 7PM for a total of 8 days to complete the installation during July 2023 ( the hottest July ever recorded ). I don't know how they did it! Jessie answered all my questions during construction, and kept me informed of what would happen next. Some of the asphalt shingles on parts of the roof with a low slope had to be scraped off. The majority of the roof had a steeper slope, and the new metal roof could be installed directly on top. People had warned me that metal roofs were noisy during rain or hail events. Not true! The shingles and underlayment have actually muffled the sounds that I would hear coming from my old asphalt shingle roof. The ice and water shields that were on my existing chimneys and vents were extended farther up each one. Some of the vertical siding was temporarily removed and put back so new ice and water shield could be placed on top of the water and ice shield that was already there. I'm 70 years old so the lifetime guarantee may not mean much, but the ability to transfer to the next owner 50 more years of protection is huge! My wife and I are very satisfied with the quality of materials, and the outstanding installation work done by Jessie and his team. It's too bad that the rating companies only allow a 5 star rating for the best and most outstanding companies. A company like InterLock should get at least 10 stars.

Review: July 14, 2021Completion: June 21, 2021

Communication could have been better prior to the project starting. They communicated wonderfully until we paid our down payment. Then communication ceased. There was no communication until we reached out to them expressing our concerns. Once the project started communication was phenomenal. The roof looks extraordinary. We have had some heavy rain and our roof has held up wonderfully and it is beautiful. We believe it is a better quality than others.

I can tell you this, the salesman was informative. The process lasted about three to four hours. He was very thorough. The thing was the samples sizes were too small and you couldn't tell how it would fit with the rest of the current things in the house. He was very in depth and I wanted to be able to give some feedback.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in West Deerfield Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in West Deerfield Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in West Deerfield Township.

Will metal roofing hold up through West Deerfield's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or splitting. Your area experiences about 82 freeze-thaw days per year, which destroys asphalt and wood shingles but leaves aluminum unaffected. The four-way interlocking panels allow thermal movement while staying watertight, and the self-healing oxide layer prevents corrosion from salt and moisture. This is why Interlock panels are installed from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations.

Does a metal roof handle the snow we get in West Deerfield Township?

Metal roofing handles snow load well—the panels are rated for structural snow weight, and your area averages about 73 cm annually. The slippery surface naturally sheds snow and ice without accumulation that stresses framing. If you choose a profile like Slate or Shake, you can add snow guards to control slide-off on steep pitches. The lightweight aluminum (for example, the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 96% less than real tile) means the roof itself adds minimal load to your structure, so snow sits safely without reinforcement.

How does a metal roof handle the heavy rain we get here?

Heavy rainfall—West Deerfield receives about 993 mm per year—doesn't penetrate a properly installed Interlock roof because the four-way interlocking design creates overlapping seals that shed water directionally. Each panel locks into its neighbors on all four sides, so water runs off before it finds a gap. The underlayment and solid deck also catch any splash-back. When installed to spec per ESR-1790, the system is rated for continuous heavy rain and resists leakage as effectively as asphalt, with the added benefit that it won't deteriorate over time.

Can metal roofing stand up to Illinois wind and storm gusts?

Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, and West Deerfield's typical gusts reach about 97 km/h (60 mph). The four-way interlocking panels mechanically grip each other so thoroughly that they act as one unified system rather than individual shingles that can lift. This engineering is why the system holds rated wind resistance even in severe weather. Insurance companies recognize this durability—many offer hail and wind discounts for metal roofs installed to specification.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing does?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust only forms on iron when exposed to moisture and oxygen. Interlock panels are made from roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) and coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon on both sides for 30-year color warranty. When the coating is scratched, aluminum's oxide layer self-heals, sealing the exposed metal. Combined with West Deerfield's 993 mm annual rainfall and 82 freeze-thaw cycles, a non-rusting roof avoids the maintenance burden and structural damage that corroding steel panels require over decades.

Do I need to reinforce my roof frame for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed with Interlock aluminum roofing. The panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile, for instance, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means the roof can install directly over most existing roofs without adding load to your framing. Asphalt shingles weigh roughly 2–3 times more, so if your house is already bearing asphalt, metal actually reduces the structural burden while lasting far longer.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?

Metal roofing costs more initially but becomes your last roof—asphalt requires replacement every 15–25 years, while Interlock aluminum carries a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner and a one-time transferable 50-year warranty for the next. Over 50 years, you'll buy asphalt three times and metal once. Add in zero rust repairs, minimal maintenance, and energy savings from energy-efficient colors with up to 0.55 solar reflectance that reduce cooling load during the 3051 sunshine hours West Deerfield receives annually, and the total cost of ownership strongly favors metal.

Can a metal roof survive hail, and will my insurance reward it?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This rating was tested rigorously and is recognized by insurers nationwide. Many homeowners receive discounts on comprehensive coverage for installing Class 4 metal roofs because the risk of weather damage is significantly lower. If your area experiences hail events, the non-combustible aluminum combined with impact durability reduces your claim likelihood.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Interlock aluminum roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. It doesn't need sealing, re-coating, or replacement of individual shingles. Twice yearly, inspect for debris in valleys and clean gutters—the same routine any roof demands. Asphalt shingles require similar inspections but deteriorate and curl over time, especially through West Deerfield's 82 annual freeze-thaw cycles. Wood shakes split and crack in those same cycles. Aluminum won't rot, split, curl, or lose impact resistance. CALGreen has verified the system for reduced maintenance, confirming that it outlasts high-touch alternatives.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt?

Yes. Interlock aluminum panels are approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, whereas asphalt shingles—torn off every 15–25 years—go to landfill. Over a 50-year period, one asphalt roof becomes three roofs discarded; one metal roof is recycled once and removes three tear-off cycles from waste streams. Aluminum's energy efficiency also counts: energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat (emissivity 0.84, reflectance up to 0.55) that asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling demand during West Deerfield's 3051 annual sunshine hours. This curbs both operational energy use and manufacturing impact.

Is a metal roof a good choice for West Deerfield Township’s climate?

Yes. West Deerfield Township averages about 73 cm of snow, 993 mm of rain, roughly 82 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
