Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Vernon Township, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
John M. was the third roofing sales consultant I talked to, and I had two more scheduled. After listening to John explain all the advantages of the InterLock System and materials, I was 95% sold but I thought it might be a little out of my price range. I was going to wait and hear from the other two roofers before I made my decision. John asked me what it would take for me to make my decision right then. I told him, and he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I cancelled the other two sales rep. meetings. Boy am I glad I did. Considering the amount of man hours put into the installation, I got a bargain! Jessie's team worked from 8AM to 7PM for a total of 8 days to complete the installation during July 2023 ( the hottest July ever recorded ). I don't know how they did it! Jessie answered all my questions during construction, and kept me informed of what would happen next. Some of the asphalt shingles on parts of the roof with a low slope had to be scraped off. The majority of the roof had a steeper slope, and the new metal roof could be installed directly on top. People had warned me that metal roofs were noisy during rain or hail events. Not true! The shingles and underlayment have actually muffled the sounds that I would hear coming from my old asphalt shingle roof. The ice and water shields that were on my existing chimneys and vents were extended farther up each one. Some of the vertical siding was temporarily removed and put back so new ice and water shield could be placed on top of the water and ice shield that was already there. I'm 70 years old so the lifetime guarantee may not mean much, but the ability to transfer to the next owner 50 more years of protection is huge! My wife and I are very satisfied with the quality of materials, and the outstanding installation work done by Jessie and his team. It's too bad that the rating companies only allow a 5 star rating for the best and most outstanding companies. A company like InterLock should get at least 10 stars.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Vernon Township
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Vernon Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Vernon Township.
Will a metal roof handle Vernon Township's freeze-thaw cycles without damage?
Yes—aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or splitting, even through 82 freeze-thaw days per year. Unlike asphalt shingles, which become brittle in cold, or wood shake, which absorbs moisture and splits, roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy maintains flexibility across temperature swings. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is rated for 30 years against chalking and fading under these conditions, and your roof experiences about 120 cm of snow annually, making consistent material performance critical.
How does an Interlock metal roof perform under Vernon Township's winter snow load?
Four-way interlocking panels shed snow efficiently because metal surfaces are smoother than asphalt or wood, and the lightweight design—Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft—means your home's structure carries minimal additional weight even at 73 cm of annual snowfall. The sealed interlocking system prevents water infiltration as snow melts. You can add snow guards if desired for safety; the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating also protects against damage from ice or heavy snow shifting on the roof.
Can Interlock metal roofing withstand the wind gusts we get here?
Absolutely. Vernon Township averages gusts around 97 km/h; Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h). The mechanical interlock between adjacent panels—not fasteners alone—distributes wind load across the entire roof system. Installed to spec, your roof meets ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance and handles the Lake County wind environment without lifting or separation, even during severe weather.
What's the hail rating on Interlock, and could it lower my insurance costs?
Interlock carries the highest impact rating available: UL 2218 Class 4, and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Aluminum's hardness and the panel's design absorb impact without permanent deformation or loss of water-shedding ability. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4-rated roofs; contact your agent with the UL 2218 rating and product specs. With Vernon Township receiving about 993 mm of rain annually, reliable impact protection is a smart investment.
Why choose aluminum roofing instead of steel in a climate like ours?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that corrodes in steel roofing. Instead, aluminum forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath; if scratched, it reforms automatically. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both sides of each panel adds extra corrosion defense, especially valuable near Lake County's moisture-rich climate with 73 cm annual snowfall and salt-air exposure. Your roof is engineered for decades without iron-oxide staining or structural degradation.
How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof really need?
Minimal. Asphalt shingles need repairs every 5–10 years and occasional moss treatment; wood shake requires regular sealing and replacement of cupped or cracked pieces; slate and tile demand professional repair for breaks. Interlock aluminum roofs are CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance—typically just occasional debris removal and gutter cleaning. With 3051 sunshine hours annually in Vernon Township, you'll see natural self-cleaning; the sealed interlocking design prevents water pooling and ice-dam vulnerability that drive maintenance costs higher.
Is a metal roof a smart long-term investment compared to asphalt shingles?
Yes. Asphalt shingles cost less upfront but need replacement every 15–20 years; over a 50-year period, you'll tear off and landfill multiple roofs. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty and non-prorated material coverage for the original owner eliminate replacement cycles. The transferable warranty gives the next owner 50 years from completion, preserving home value. When you calculate material, labor, and disposal across decades, metal roofing is the last roof you buy—a one-time capital investment that outlasts multiple asphalt cycles.
Can Interlock install a metal roof over my existing shingles in Vernon Township?
Usually yes. The extraordinary lightness—Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—means no structural reinforcement is required on most homes, and installation over existing roofs is often possible. Your local Interlock installer, serving this region since 2001, will inspect your deck and advise whether over-roof installation or tear-off is best for your home. A solid deck plus underlayment keeps the roof as quiet as asphalt in heavy rain, protecting your investment while maintaining comfort.
Do Interlock's energy-efficient colors really reduce cooling costs?
Yes. energy-efficient colors reflect more solar heat than asphalt absorbs, with thermal emissivity to 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 on Aged Copper Penny. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms measurable heat reflection. Vernon Township receives about 3051 sunshine hours annually; on hot days, reflective coatings lower surface temperature and reduce air-conditioning load. Metal roofs also release absorbed heat quickly at night, while asphalt stays hot. Over your roof's lifetime, the energy savings compound, especially in summer months.
Is choosing a metal roof an environmentally responsible decision?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and manufactured in Delta, BC since 1998 with proven durability—some installations in Antarctic research stations show the product's lifespan. Asphalt shingles torn off during replacement are sent to landfills by the ton; metal roofing ends that cycle. When your roof eventually reaches end-of-life decades from now, the aluminum scrap has genuine recycling value. Combined with light weight (no structural strain) and reduced maintenance (no chemical treatments), metal roofing delivers lower environmental impact across its lifespan.
