| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |

What our customers are saying:
Our house experiences high wind and exposure to the elements on the Maine coast. Interlock offered competitive pricing on aluminum shingle roofing. The entire experience was good, from quotation, removal of the old roof, and installation of the new roof.
We really like our roof.
Interlock was great, and installation was just as told to us by sales. The crew worked hard, cleaned area each day and roof looks great! I was impressed by their professionalism and also had a call from home office checking during the install and had a visit from a home office inspector checking progress and quality of install.
The roof looks great Jonathan did a great job of explaining the features of the new roof.the crew was great and very professional and did a great clean up after the installation
Our entire experience; inquiry, ordering, installation, and follow up has been excellent. The roof was justifiably costly and definitely worth the investment. The appearance of our house has been greatly enhanced.
Nazar was awesome to fix roof from winter ice damage. !!
Bought this roofing 20 years ago. It was installed well. Needed improvements to my roof structure were suggested and made to ensure the longevity and worthiness of my roof. All these years later I am still happy I made the investment in my 160 year old home.

Interlock was very professional. They installed my roof in a timely manner and the workmanship was great. Glad I went with interlock. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Roof damage repair, Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation
All of the above...we had a positive experience and live the look of our roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Falmouth
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Falmouth, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Falmouth.
How does a metal roof handle Falmouth's average 121 cm of snow per year?
Metal roofs shed snow efficiently because aluminum panels are smooth and naturally slide precipitation off rather than trapping it. Falmouth averages about 121 cm of snow annually, and the four-way interlocking design of Interlock panels prevents snow from working under seams. The lightweight construction—the Shake profile weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft—means snow load stresses your home far less than traditional tile or slate, and your framing doesn't require reinforcement. Snow guards can be added if desired, and the smooth surface prevents ice dam formation that causes water backup damage.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Maine damage an aluminum metal roof?
Aluminum's molecular structure makes it immune to freeze-thaw damage because it contains no iron and cannot rust or rot. Falmouth experiences about 83 freeze-thaw days annually, a cycle that cracks asphalt, splinters wood shakes, and spalls concrete tile—but aluminum expands and contracts without permanent damage. The self-healing oxide layer on the 3105-H24 aluminum alloy protects against salt-air corrosion year-round, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against chalking) remains stable through thousands of thermal cycles. Your roof simply weathers the season without material degradation.
What makes a metal roof reliable in Falmouth's wet climate?
Falmouth receives about 995 mm of rain annually, and metal roofs shed water instantly because water flows off smooth aluminum rather than pooling in granules or splits. The four-way interlocking panels create overlapped seams that channel water downward; installed over solid deck with underlayment, the system is watertight by design. Unlike asphalt shingles that absorb water and deteriorate from inside, or wood shakes that split and trap moisture, aluminum panels simply pass water through to gutters. The ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) confirms the tested assembly meets leakage standards for heavy rainfall regions.
Can a metal roof withstand Falmouth's coastal wind gusts?
Falmouth experiences gusts that regularly reach 121 km/h, and the four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The interlocked seams prevent panels from lifting or separating; the system distributes wind loads across multiple connection points rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. The UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating—the highest impact classification available—demonstrates the panel's structural rigidity. Combined with proper installation by Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc., your roof won't move in a coastal gale.
Does a metal roof qualify for insurance discounts after hail?
Interlock's panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating and a warranty covering perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches—the highest protection available. Many insurers offer premium reductions for non-combustible Class A roofing and impact-resistant materials because claims are rare. Contact your agent with the ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) and the UL 2218 Class 4 certificate; insurers recognize these third-party certifications. The lightweight aluminum (the Mediterranean Tile profile is 96% lighter than concrete tile) means hail impact doesn't translate to structural damage, reducing the total cost of ownership over the roof's 50-year transferred warranty term.
How much can an energy-efficiency metal roof reduce cooling costs?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat with initial reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning your roof bounces heat away instead of absorbing it like asphalt. Falmouth averages about 3,076 sunshine hours per year, and every hour of direct sun on a dark asphalt roof converts to interior heat load; a reflective metal roof significantly reduces that burden. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms measured performance. Combined with the absence of granule absorption (which traps heat), you'll see measurable cooling savings during summer months. Paired with the current financing offer—no payments or interest until Spring 2027—an energy-efficient upgrade pays for itself sooner.
What does the Guardian Warranty actually cover for a metal roof?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—comprehensive protection asphalt cannot match. It transfers once to the next owner, extending 50 years from completion, making your home's resale more attractive. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty (ASTM D4214 and D2244 measured) separately guarantees no chalking or fading. No other roofing material combines non-prorated lifetime coverage with a transferable 50-year term. For Falmouth's freeze-thaw climate (83 days annually), this warranty protects against the exact damage mechanisms that crack and curl asphalt and wood.
Can Interlock install a metal roof over my existing asphalt roof?
Yes. The extraordinary lightness of Interlock panels—the Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft—means installation typically occurs over an existing roof without structural reinforcement. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999 and routinely installs over existing decks, which saves labor and landfill costs. The solid-deck-plus-underlayment system (installed whether over old shingles or bare wood) produces asphalt-level quiet in Falmouth's 995 mm annual rainfall. The installer confirms whether your deck will support the assembly; in nearly all residential cases, no reinforcement is required, allowing faster installation and immediate weather protection.
Is a metal roof more environmentally responsible than asphalt?
Aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable at end of life, while asphalt shingles end up in landfills where they persist for decades. Falmouth generates about 995 mm of rain annually, and asphalt roofs shed microplastics and granules into stormwater; aluminum sheds nothing but water. Interlock panels are manufactured from recycled aluminum and can be reclaimed and remelted infinitely without losing properties. Over a roof's 50-year warranty term (transferable to the next owner), you avoid multiple tear-off-and-dump cycles. The lighter weight also means fewer trucks for delivery and installation, reducing transportation emissions. For a homeowner committed to reducing landfill contribution, metal is measurably superior.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Asphalt fails every 15–25 years and requires repeated tear-off, disposal, and reinstallation costs; aluminum is installed once and lasts 50+ years under the transferable Guardian Warranty. Over a 50-year ownership horizon, you'll replace asphalt two or three times, each cycle costing removal labor, landfill fees, and new materials. Metal's non-prorated lifetime warranty eliminates the risk of repair bills after year 20. Insurance premiums often decrease for Class A fire-rated, impact-resistant roofing. Energy savings from energy-efficiency reflectance compound annually. The current promotion—no payments or interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—dramatically improves the initial cash-flow picture. Total cost of ownership, not first cost, determines actual value.
