Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for North Deering, Maine
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Our house experiences high wind and exposure to the elements on the Maine coast. Interlock offered competitive pricing on aluminum shingle roofing. The entire experience was good, from quotation, removal of the old roof, and installation of the new roof.
We really like our roof.
Interlock was great, and installation was just as told to us by sales. The crew worked hard, cleaned area each day and roof looks great! I was impressed by their professionalism and also had a call from home office checking during the install and had a visit from a home office inspector checking progress and quality of install.
The roof looks great Jonathan did a great job of explaining the features of the new roof.the crew was great and very professional and did a great clean up after the installation
Our entire experience; inquiry, ordering, installation, and follow up has been excellent. The roof was justifiably costly and definitely worth the investment. The appearance of our house has been greatly enhanced.
Nazar was awesome to fix roof from winter ice damage. !!
Bought this roofing 20 years ago. It was installed well. Needed improvements to my roof structure were suggested and made to ensure the longevity and worthiness of my roof. All these years later I am still happy I made the investment in my 160 year old home.

Interlock was very professional. They installed my roof in a timely manner and the workmanship was great. Glad I went with interlock. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Roof damage repair, Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation
All of the above...we had a positive experience and live the look of our roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in North Deering
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in North Deering, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in North Deering.
How does a metal roof handle North Deering's heavy snow and ice?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice far better than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface offers no grip; snow slides cleanly rather than backing up into ice dams. With about 121 cm of snow per year and 83 freeze-thaw days, that matters. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to 120 mph wind resistance when installed to spec, which keeps panels locked tight during the freeze-thaw cycling and thermal expansion that comes with your climate. The lightweight design—Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft—also means no snow load concerns; you'll never need structural reinforcement. Optional snow guards let you control slide direction if needed.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Maine damage an aluminum metal roof?
No. Aluminum's strength actually improves slightly in cold cycling, and because it contains no iron, it cannot rust no matter how many wet-freeze cycles occur. North Deering experiences roughly 83 freeze-thaw days per year, which is exactly where aluminum shines: the oxide layer on the surface self-heals when scratched, so cracks from thermal movement don't propagate into corrosion paths the way they do in steel or painted surfaces. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM standards, also resists salt spray and moisture damage—key assets in a region that sees about 995 mm of rain annually.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a microscopic oxide layer on the surface that actually protects the metal beneath and self-heals when scratched. This makes aluminum fundamentally different from steel roofing, which requires constant paint maintenance to prevent rust in wet climates like North Deering's, with 995 mm annual rainfall and 121 cm of snow. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) and applies Alunar coating to both sides of every panel—extra insurance in salt air and freeze-thaw conditions. The result: a roof that won't corrode, period.
Does metal roofing hold up to hail, and can it reduce insurance costs?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Aluminum's hardness and the four-way interlocking design absorb impact energy without permanent deformation the way asphalt shingles do. That rating may qualify you for homeowners insurance discounts in Maine; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 spec sheet. Combined with North Deering's typical daily-max winds around 19 km/h and gusts to 121 km/h, the impact resistance means you're covered for the weather your region actually throws at roofs.
Is a metal roof secure in Maine's high winds?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. North Deering's typical gusts reach about 121 km/h, well within that range. The interlocking design—where each panel locks to its neighbors on all four edges—distributes wind load across the entire roof system rather than relying on fasteners alone. That's why these panels install over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement: the weight penalty doesn't exist (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft), so wind pressure becomes a non-issue. The warranty backs the engineering.
Will a metal roof require structural upgrades to my home?
No. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—Slate installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile profile (which replicates clay or concrete tile) at 0.59 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than actual tile. Because aluminum weighs so little, you can install it over most existing roofs without any framing upgrades. That's a real cost and time savings compared to traditional slate or tile, which demand structural reinforcement. In a climate like North Deering's, with 121 cm of snow per year, the light weight also means snow load is never a structural concern—the roof itself adds almost nothing to the load your frame already carries.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost in Maine?
Yes, when you measure life-cycle cost. Asphalt shingles in North Deering's climate—about 995 mm rain, 121 cm snow, 83 freeze-thaw cycles per year—typically last 15-20 years and need replacement multiple times over your roof's actual lifespan. Interlock's lifetime limited material warranty is non-prorated for the original owner and one-time transferable to the next owner (50 years from completion), so you're genuinely buying your last roof. No tear-off, no landfill cost, no re-roofing labor every two decades. The current promotion offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—that removes the financing barrier. Amortized over 40-50 years versus 15-20 for asphalt, the math is clear.
What maintenance does an aluminum metal roof need?
Almost none. Unlike wood shake or shingle roofs that split, rot, and curl in Maine's 83 annual freeze-thaw days, aluminum doesn't degrade. Unlike asphalt, which hardens and cracks under about 3076 sunshine hours per year, Interlock's Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Simple gutter cleaning and occasional debris removal are all you need. The roof doesn't require resealing, restaining, or protective treatments. Asphalt roofs demand inspections after ice dams and hail, wood needs fungicide treatment, and concrete tile needs resealing every 5-7 years. Aluminum does none of that—it's CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance because the material itself doesn't degrade.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes, substantially. Interlock's aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and ends the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that happens every 15-20 years in a climate like North Deering's. When you eventually replace the roof—likely 40-50 years from now, given the lifetime warranty—the aluminum goes to recycling mills, not a dump. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, generate millions of tons of landfill waste annually in North America. Over 50 years, a typical home goes through three or four asphalt roofs; one Interlock roof handles the entire lifespan. The lightweight aluminum also saves fuel and emissions during installation because installers don't need a structural crew to reinforce your frame.
