Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Prides Corner, Maine
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Our house experiences high wind and exposure to the elements on the Maine coast. Interlock offered competitive pricing on aluminum shingle roofing. The entire experience was good, from quotation, removal of the old roof, and installation of the new roof.
We really like our roof.
Interlock was great, and installation was just as told to us by sales. The crew worked hard, cleaned area each day and roof looks great! I was impressed by their professionalism and also had a call from home office checking during the install and had a visit from a home office inspector checking progress and quality of install.
The roof looks great Jonathan did a great job of explaining the features of the new roof.the crew was great and very professional and did a great clean up after the installation
Our entire experience; inquiry, ordering, installation, and follow up has been excellent. The roof was justifiably costly and definitely worth the investment. The appearance of our house has been greatly enhanced.
Nazar was awesome to fix roof from winter ice damage. !!
Bought this roofing 20 years ago. It was installed well. Needed improvements to my roof structure were suggested and made to ensure the longevity and worthiness of my roof. All these years later I am still happy I made the investment in my 160 year old home.

Interlock was very professional. They installed my roof in a timely manner and the workmanship was great. Glad I went with interlock. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Roof damage repair, Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation
All of the above...we had a positive experience and live the look of our roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Prides Corner
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Prides Corner, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Prides Corner.
Does metal roofing handle Maine's heavy snow loads? What about ice dams in Prides Corner winters?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice effectively because the smooth, sloped surface offers minimal friction—unlike asphalt shingles that trap moisture. Prides Corner receives about 121 cm of snow annually across 83 freeze-thaw cycles, creating ideal conditions for ice dam formation on conventional roofs. Aluminum's lightweight design (0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile) means no structural reinforcement is needed, and the panels' interlocking strength keeps them secure even after repeated thermal cycling. Snow guards are available if you want to retain snow for insulation or prevent roof-slide hazards.
How does an aluminum metal roof survive freeze-thaw cycling in Maine?
Aluminum expands and contracts minimally compared to asphalt or wood, and it has no moisture absorption—the root cause of freeze-thaw damage in traditional materials. Prides Corner experiences about 83 freeze-thaw days annually, meaning your roof faces constant expansion stress. Interlock aluminum's 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 alloy is specifically engineered for thermal cycling; the Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years) protects the surface from oxidation and salt spray during the repeated wet-freeze-thaw sequence. The panels will not crack, split, curl, or rot—all covered under the Guardian Warranty.
Why does aluminum never rust, and why does that matter in coastal Maine?
Aluminum contains no iron, so rust cannot form—even if the surface is scratched. Instead, aluminum oxidizes, creating a transparent oxide layer that actually heals itself when damaged. In Prides Corner's maritime climate with 995 mm of annual rainfall and ocean-influenced air, this is critical. Steel roofing requires constant protective coatings and will eventually perforate; aluminum simply does not. Interlock applies Alunar fluorocarbon finish to both sides of every panel (extra protection against salt spray), but even if the coating were removed, the aluminum base would remain corrosion-proof for your roof's entire 50+ year lifespan.
Can a metal roof withstand Maine winter winds and nor'easters?
Absolutely. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Prides Corner's typical wind gusts reach about 121 km/h, placing your area well within the safety envelope. The interlocking design means each panel is mechanically locked to its neighbors in four directions—not nailed and sealed like asphalt shingles. This redundancy ensures that even if wind pressure increases locally, the panels stay seated and secure. No blow-offs, no leaks, no callbacks during storm season.
What's the hail rating on metal roofing, and could it lower my homeowner's insurance?
Interlock aluminum roofing meets UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. The aluminum's extreme hardness and the panel design distribute impact energy across a larger area, preventing denting and penetration. Many insurance carriers offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofs because claims are statistically rare. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 rating; you may qualify for savings that offset part of the roof's cost. Combined with Prides Corner's typical wind gusts of about 121 km/h (which do not drive hail), this rating is genuine peace of mind.
Is my house strong enough for a metal roof, or do I need to reinforce the structure?
No reinforcement needed. Interlock's Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft; even the heavier Tile profile (0.59 lb/sq ft) is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. For comparison, a typical asphalt roof weighs 2–3 lb/sq ft. Because aluminum is so light, Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs without structural upgrades. Your home's framing carries far less load with metal than with traditional tile, so there is no hidden foundation or beam cost. The lightweight design also means faster installation and lower labor costs—a direct savings in Prides Corner.
What's the warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and does it really last 50 years?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner—meaning no depreciation, no fine print exclusions for normal wear. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty is also one-time transferable: the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from the completion date. Prides Corner's 83 annual freeze-thaw cycles stress roofing heavily, yet aluminum and fluorocarbon coatings (30-year fade/chalk warranty per ASTM D4214) are proven to outlast asphalt by decades. This is the last roof you'll buy—and you can pass that confidence to your buyer.
Is a metal roof more expensive than asphalt shingles, and will I recoup the cost?
Upfront cost is higher, but total cost of ownership over 50 years favors metal decisively. Asphalt needs replacement every 15–20 years; you'll buy 2–3 roofs in the time one Interlock roof lasts. Factor in tear-off labor, disposal fees, and inflation, and a second or third asphalt roof easily exceeds the initial metal investment. Interlock requires no routine maintenance (no coating, no repairs), saving hundreds over the roof's life. Current financing: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Add the transferable 50-year warranty and resale appeal in Prides Corner's competitive market, and metal roofing pays for itself.
What does Interlock metal roofing look like? Can I get the appearance of slate or cedar shake?
Interlock offers five profiles—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile—each with authentic texture and dimension that matches traditional materials. The Slate profile replicates natural stone grain; Cedar Shingle and Shake replicate wood shakes with realistic shadow lines and grain detail; Mediterranean Tile mimics clay barrel tile; Standing Seam delivers a clean, modern look. Each profile is available in multiple colors (Aged Copper Penny reflects up to 0.55 solar reflectance for energy efficiency). All five are manufactured to the same ICC-ES ESR-1790 code standard and Class 4 hail rating. Choose the aesthetic that fits your Prides Corner home's character without compromising durability or performance.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Prides Corner, and how long have they been in business?
Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served this region since 1999—longer than most local contractors have been in business. They are factory-trained installers, familiar with Prides Corner's climate challenges (121 cm annual snow, 995 mm rain, 83 freeze-thaw days), and they understand how to properly detail flashings, underlayment, and ventilation for Maine conditions. Factory-authorized installation preserves your Guardian Warranty and ensures the four-way interlocking system performs as engineered. Ask for local references; long tenure in a competitive market speaks to quality and customer satisfaction.
