Review: June 22, 2005 Completion: June 23, 2005

This letter is being written to commend two of your Installers (Alex & Tim). It is our feeling that they have worked diligently through all sorts of weather conditions to complete a large and difficult roofing job. In spite of hot, humid conditions and temperatures in the 90s, they have worked to strip the old shingles, install the plywood and new shingles. They have also worked through cool rainy and misty days. For some unknown reason the dumpster was hauled away after their working hours. If my husband hadn't been home to retrieve all their tools, wheelbarrows, harnesses, etc., the tools would have disappeared as well. The men had to finish stripping the old shingles off our porch roof and haul them away in their own personal vehicle. Please be sure to extend our appreciation and satisfaction to your installers for a job well done. They are extremely polite and pleasant young men. It was a joy having them at our house. If only all outside contractors had such devoted and skilled employees. They did a wonderful job at our home.

Review: June 22, 2023 Completion: February 27, 2022

I highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing for the following 4 reasons: We are now proud owners of the most visually pleasing and structurally sound roof I have ever seen. From the owner on down, every person at Interlock is dedicated to customer satisfaction. The crews performing the work are top notch, led by great leaders. I have never seen a large crew of contractors work so efficiently and effectively. There was never any downtime as there was always a team working on the project. As the days work came to a close, half the team would begin cleanup while the other half continued with the mission. Their daily cleanup was off the charts! They used blowers, rakes and a rolling magnet to ensure the worksite was completely cleaned. I was extremely impressed with the operation from start to finish!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Redbank

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Redbank, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Redbank.

Does metal roofing handle Maine's heavy snow and ice buildup?

Yes—Interlock metal panels are engineered for snow load and ice dams. Redbank receives about 198 cm of snow annually, and the four-way interlocking aluminum design sheds snow effectively while resisting the mechanical stress of repeated freeze-thaw cycles (about 88 per year in this region). The lightweight construction—roughly 96% lighter than ceramic tile—eliminates the structural concerns that heavy slate or concrete tile impose, so your existing framing handles winter conditions without reinforcement.

Will freeze-thaw cycles crack or damage aluminum roofing?

Aluminum's oxide layer actually grows stronger through freeze-thaw stress, whereas asphalt and wood deteriorate. Redbank experiences about 88 freeze-thaw days annually with mean temperatures near 6.7°C, creating conditions that typically crack composite materials. The 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) used in Interlock panels resists this cycling without spalling, splitting, or loss of structural integrity. The Alunar fluorocarbon coating—warranted 30 years—further protects against moisture infiltration that accelerates freeze damage in traditional roofing.

Can a metal roof rust in Maine's wet climate?

Aluminum panels cannot rust because aluminum contains no iron; they form a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched. Redbank receives about 928 mm of rain annually plus coastal-influenced moisture, conditions that would corrode steel roofing within years. Interlock panels are coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish—the extra side-two protection addresses salt and spray exposure—making aluminum the only realistic long-term choice for humidity-prone regions. This is why Interlock installations range from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations without degradation.

How does metal roofing perform in Maine wind gusts?

Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), well above Redbank's typical gust patterns of about 111 km/h. The four-way interlocking panel system creates a unified structure that distributes lateral loads across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms this design meets IBC/IRC wind uplift requirements. Installation to spec ensures panels lock together and resist the dynamic pressure cycles common in coastal and elevated Maine properties.

Does metal roofing resist hail, and can it lower insurance costs?

Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because claims are rare. Redbank's 10-year climate data suggests hail risk is moderate but not negligible, making this certification valuable. Aluminum's inherent hardness and the four-way interlocking panel geometry dissipate impact energy, whereas asphalt or wood shingles readily puncture. Ask your insurer about discounts when you file your quote; some policies recognize the hail rating immediately.

Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs and converting to indoor cooling load. Redbank averages about 2968 sunshine hours per year—enough to make reflectivity matter, especially on south and west-facing slopes. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the solar advantage. While Maine's cooling season is shorter than the South, energy savings compound over decades, and lower attic temperatures also reduce ice-damming risk in spring, addressing both comfort and durability.

What warranty does Interlock metal roofing carry?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, NON-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner, granting 50 years from completion. This one-time transfer adds substantial resale appeal in a market where buyers weigh long-term durability. Compared to asphalt (15–25 years) or wood (25–40 years with maintenance), Interlock's non-prorated term eliminates replacement surprises and positions the roof as a true long-term asset, not a recurring expense cycle.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost versus asphalt shingles?

Over a 50-year horizon, metal roofing is typically the lower total-cost choice. Asphalt roofs require replacement every 15–25 years, meaning 2–3 full tear-offs and installations; metal roofing installs once. Interlock's lightweight profile (Slate at ~0.41 lb/sq ft, for example) often allows installation over existing asphalt, eliminating disposal and labor costs. The Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so aesthetic decline is not a cost driver. Current regional promotion offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, reducing upfront friction while the numbers compound in your favor.

Can you install metal roofing over my existing shingles?

Yes—one of Interlock's key advantages is that the lightweight construction often permits installation directly over existing asphalt. Your roofer inspects deck condition, adds a solid layer or spacer as needed for ventilation, and installs the metal panels using Interlock's interlocking system and fasteners. This approach eliminates costly tear-off labor, old-shingle disposal, and the landfill impact of asphalt waste. Timeline depends on roof size and weather; Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999 and can quote your specific home in Redbank. The ESR-1790 evaluation confirms this retrofit method meets building code.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt?

Aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable at end-of-life, and Interlock panels contain recycled content. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are petroleum-based and nearly always landfilled when removed—contributing to the tear-off cycle every 15–25 years. Over Redbank's 928 mm annual rainfall and 198 cm snow load, an asphalt roof fails sooner, triggering earlier replacement and greater cumulative waste. Interlock's 50+ year lifespan means one installation in most homeowners' lifetimes, not two or three. CALGreen verification confirms the product's reduced maintenance footprint. Choosing aluminum interrupts the landfill cycle and aligns with long-term stewardship.
